    I love this channel. I have been an electronic technician for 30 years and in each Sorin video I learn one more thing. In other channels they would have used an electronic super load with many numbers on the display and suddenly Sorin pulls out of his hat a large variable resistor from the analog era. Although I am a Spanish speaker, I will adopt the expression: "this sucks" 😀
    I just put a thermal camera and the nlba battery tester on my wish list 😋

    I have plenty of old TV "Voltage Droppers" to test a battery with.
    Checking a battery voltage without any load tells you very little, if the voltage drops underload
    when the it has been fully charged means only one thing, the cells have low capacity.
    This one had a very short life cycle, this can happen if the laptop is only used via the mains adaptor
    and the battery is never charged then discharged.

    battery chip has a bug thats why it reports FCC to be 0mAh. Cells definitely have some capacity, may be around 1000mAh or even bigger. Such bug could be fixed from Reset tab by entering non-zero FCC value to chip eeprom. Wonder why it was not even tried. This Renesas 045A20 chip is supported by your License type.

      He tested individual cells without the use.of the eeprom, and they dropped voltage like shit, just the battery is worn, if they didn't dropped voltage, he could try to fix corruption in firmware, but clearly it's not software problem this time

    • @ua9851
      @ua9851 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@user-kr8tp3ko8z it is definitely firmware issue. Voltage drop at 2A was from 4.0 to 3.6 volts, which is 200 mR, such cells still could work. Not the best but enough for backup application. They definitely still has capacity much higher then 0mAh. Thats why it is chip software bug.

    The battery is still active because it was most likely designed like that because it also serves as the cmos battery, the Super io is most likely keeping it a bit charged to act as cmos...same thing I've noticed with hp laptops with inbuilt batteries , even when the battery is disabled due to swelling or weak cells , the battery still retains some voltage to serve as cmos .

    I have an Asus with the same characteristics, in my case it goes throug batteries very fast. I attribute this to the processor not being optimized. I recommend to lower maximum hertz at windows or at BIOS, or even undervolting (can be done on BIOS), so it does not eat batteries that fast.

    I think probably used the laptop most of the time from the charger so that's why the battery with so low charging counts got so used. That's the reason why when I'm using my laptop on charger, I use software which limits the battery to be charged to 50%, and its way batter of the battery to be kept at that percentage if not used so much.

    This seems very unusual..... battery manufacture date is 2020. Only 4 years ago but the battery has 0 capacity with only 187 charge cycles? That's impossible unless the battery is made from dog sh!t. If possible try to factory reset the eeprom in the battery and force it to back to new status. Or hand edit the eeprom values to make the 0 into 20000 or similar. Maybe the eeprom inside the battery got partially corrupted which happens often on many devices. My old Tecra A8 laptop original battery from 2009 still has around 400mA capacity present. Yes it's bad but it's not zero. My Samsung Galaxy S4 phone from 2014 still has the original battery and it works fine for about 2 weeks before it needs a charge. It looks like Asus and possibly other manufacturers are using inferior batteries on purpose to artifically end-of-life their products. Shame on them and likely will be common to see this with all battery-powered devices in the near future...

    Cycle count can't be correct, is not possible that is so worn down after only 187 cycles, if one cell was low it was from a cell problem, but all 3 cells are balanced, that kind of wear can not happen with only 187 cycles if it's an original Asus battery, may be a fake one, we don't know.
