Lower Tier Guides: New York

- Another lower tier guide, this time featuring the USN T5 BB, the New York. This slow-moving BB packs a mean punch and can take a good hit, but because of the limited speed map awareness and positioning is absolutely vital to get the most out of it.
- Hry
Double-checked to make sure my mic hadn't randomly lowered itself to 50% volume this time.. really weird thing that has happened a couple of times now :x
Do you have any information about the release of Royal Navys capital ships? Probably 2017 ?
Even then I feel that your mic is too soft. I listen on speakers(5.1) and I have them on 19 volume... I'm listening to your vid on 29... Great vid btw
but flamu on certain maps being central means being in a position where id hit mountains, so what do i do here?
Not sure if I'm repeating myself but I have to say these lower tier guides are a brilliant idea. The newer players that give a shit have this as a resource to improve quickly which makes the game more fun to play for everyone. I often suggest your vids in chat to those who seem receptive. ( Not to the obvious asshats who cannot handle anything that suggests they could improve on their "perfect awesomeness".)
Anyways, kudos Flamu. I hope you keep these coming and that you know that your efforts are making this game better for the entire WOWS community.
Bat
some of those asshats brawl with HE with a Kawachi on a S.Carolina. Facepalm city.
The biggest problem I have "staying central" is that it's a VERY fine line between that, and getting yourself focused by the enemy.
EDIT - that being said, I got my last man standing (whatever the 5 V 1 is) in my NY.
Yeah, the NY is a great ship for surviving in 1 v 4+
I have a replay on wowreplays in the NY facing half a team of ships and surviving with 900 HP left (Didn't have Prem repair though.)
True, you don't want to be focused, but with the slow speed of American battleships b4 the North Carolina, you want to stay where you can best contribute to your team. Sometimes you will spawn on the far edge of the map. You can't choose that, but it amazes me when I see someone on my team in that position and they decide to sail even farther away from possible support, like they want to have part of the battlefield for themselves. On rare occasions that might even work if the entire enemy completely ignores that flank, but usually it ends up with that battleship dying quickly, or escaping with heavy damage only to find it is too far away to be of any use to the team, at least for awhile.
Your point isn't invalid; especially in the current meta of five battleships per team in most random games, but it doesn't invalidate Flamu's point about putting yourself where you can best contribute. Now that I think about it, the next time Flamu decides to do another "Think like a Super-Unicum player" video, he really should address the issue of dealing with teams that are over-weighted with battleships for both cruiser players and battleship players. He already did one for DD players.
Flamu I have been following your youtube videos which has helped me out big time. Keep up the awesome work. Thanks
Thanks a ton for this guide! I'll be subscribing for sure, can't believe I haven't found your guides earlier!
I've had the New York, grinding for New Mexico for a while but I've never really gotten the hang of it. I'll be sure to keep your advice in mind.
Thank-you for doing these lower tier commentaries, they are far more helpful for those of us relatively new to the game.
how the hell do you always hit citadels each time ?!
Luck
I mean to be fair the Omaha is basically made of citadels so that's probably not the best comparison, but yeah it's rare
You can cit cruisers quite easily in NY. But God forbid other bbs, for me.
Easy: best ship in the game.
@@ericmarathee4926 If gotten my hands on devstrikes on cruisers only now, at 6k exp from next ship... I correct myself. It's a good ship, considering you can actually stay at range from higher tier bbs who, even at tier7, can't reach you.
Just have to thank you, Flamu. Your guides and commentary have taught a new player who doesn't have any friends playing a lot! I never had anyone to show me the ropes and FPS and Mechwarrior games don't help much in WoWs. So, again, I thank you. Danke.
Thanks for the good tips , I love my New Mexico, it can delete any cruiser or dd, and can hang with higher tier bbs if I angle correctly and hit my shots!
No Flamu the Single most common mistake BB's make is not change course when they notice a DD or CA within torpedo range.
That map button trick is gold. Cheers!
I can't hit a single citadel with this ship. Even at waterline and center of ship.
Same here
Yeah I would rather have a Wyoming in a tier 5 battle for one the speed is faster for two the turrets rotate faster three it has more guns
@@jordzking6330 The new York guns are about 50mm larger which is substantial and its actually faster I though by 0.6
Think : physical preparation is paramount. No alcohol or anything else before playing the game. Good night and food everyday.
Thanks Flamu, very helpful indeed.
I cannot for the LIFE of me figure out this ship. This really helped man.
Excellent guide, now if only people followed this.
Nice map eagle eye trick! Thanks!
As always a great video and cool to see how you analyze a battle even while playing it. I know that I'll sometimes focus too much on what's right in front of me, instead of keeping the big overview (playing on a laptop with 14" screen is not optimal for a big minimap). Must try to do that more :)
The problem with the NY is that it meets Colorodos/Nagatos and their 16" guns. When I play Colorado NY is a juicy target because you can citadel it from any angle and any distance and it is too slow to get away.
yeah fuck this ship, really wanna just free xp the new mexico because its so painful to play
Thanks for sharing this, Flamu. And very impressive play. I've got T6 ships, and still haven't got that amount of damage in a battle. Going to work on my lower tiers, can get really good XP that way, if you got no wins on a lower tier in a day, you get +50% XP when you do win in that boat.
After watching imgur.com/a/4iSNQGc
Fought a DD in close range with my Texas, whilest dodging torp planes and DD torps. Came out the victor.
I was surprised I made it out.
do more of these pls it's rly good
I do admit that I used to go around the whole map as a dd just to get one carrier, and sometimes I didn’t even succeed.
Luv your videos. You give excellent hints and tips! Keep up the good work!
QQ, if you had to choose between TX and NY and could only keep one, which would you keep?
Flamu. You haven't done any Iowa commentary yet. Maybe you could do one... : ) Love you vids, greetings from Poland !
In the current German BBs world, is the Iowa still great?
She definitely is!
"colorado the slowest thing ever" Flamu 2016.
you never saw me working apparently...
I deleted a Florida at 16KM with a citadel with this thing and he started calling hacks. I couldn't stop giggling about that for hours.
That's redeemed my opinion on this ship greatly, but it's still a love-hate relationship so far.
Funny enough though, I have much more success at longer ranges in this ship, for whatever reason the dispersion seems to get worse at closer distances, to the point where I've fired straight at a stationary, broadsiding Gnaisenau at ~8km and done nothing but pelt the island behind him. Idk if it's the build I'm using or what, but she's pepega at close range dispersion wise.
I find the dispersion with range module to be terrible at 15km+. It will help in open maps, but if there are some islands it might be better to increase turret traverse speed as they are very slow.
Thanks for the guide but why I am not allways get Cinidel on my new York I am playing it on mobile..
First!!! 5 seconds upload, and I'm here, btw. thanks for the guide.. I'm having a hard time grinding this to New Mexico.
It's worth it.
Hey flamu
can you post a video of the Montana
hOW DOES HE SEE THE LINES ON THE MINI MAP? IS THAT AN ALLOWABLE MOD?
What mod or settings option are you using to get the crosshairs on the mini map for the target you have selected? Also, do you have a video, or a couple links even, of useful in-game mods?
hey Flamu, i was wondering what mods did you use. thanks
Flamu, one thing I've never really understood was the heal ability. Could you do a video on how best to use it? At first I thought it was a straight percentage, but saw only a sliver get healed up. It is one of those things that the game does not educate the player on very well once your first BB is purchased. Love your vids, have learned a lot watching them. Many thanks.
To put it simply, it mostly heals light damage received, so overpens, fire and flooding. If you get citadeled or hit by a torpedo, that health is completely gone for the most part. Before you heal up, check your health bar, the grey part shows how much hp you'll get back.
Well, some ship can repair the damage cause by citadel, like... Warspite. ;)
The Repair consumable will heal 100% of all light damage such as fires and flooding. It can heal some moderate damage (50% or so?) but will not heal damage done to the citadel. That means a torpedo that hits the bow/aft then it should register as moderate damage. If a torpedo hits the citadel, (let's say that under the number one turret) it will not heal any of the damage. Now, there is only ONE exception to this citadel damage rule. That is the Warspite. I don't know how much she would heal citadel damage though.
It is a percentage, but you can not heal all the way up, and it seems that after taking torpedoes or citadel hits, the heal is less effective
Quick question about ranked. In the Kutuzov, would it be better to run defensive AA or Hydro?
On one hand, Kutuzov has great AA range and DPS, so defensive AA is very powerful on that ship. On the other hand, the current meta has so many Bensons that hydro seems incredibly important, and CVs are rare.
I'm really unsure which to go with.
Mylene Whalen depends on which match ups you face, same thing goes for the Atago. If you face many carriers go for defensive AA if that's not the case go for hydro. You can't really tell which ones better
I'd go with hydro in ranked. Carriers seem to be less common, and there's a limit of one per team per match, but there could bw any number of sneaky pedoboats.
With APR module the dispersion is so bad at 16 km+ that i can't reliably hit stuff and depends too much on RNGesus. Personal preferences and experiences though.
Artillery plotting room
where is the best place to 100 percent hit citadel
i consider 3 tier 3 skills to be way more useful than AFT on these tiers.
maybe after these ill take AFT
cv hunting happens even in ranked, below rank 5.. no words..
What is the best low tier premium ship
Texas is good. Like a New York, but with better AA. Ishizuchi is a kick asd cruiser killer, but will wilt against other BBs if not played perfectly. Murmansk is no longer available, but Marblehead is. Yubari is fun, and I've had good games in it, but I wouldn't call it good.
Flamu, how to get the dragon flag ??
It was a reward for aome something or other
53 hits but just 6 penatrations(1k each) to cruisers
Edit: and i dont want to talk about battleships :D
at 1:36 you manually selected that squadron of torpedo bombers, but when you went through your captain perks, you didnt have that one researched????
Flamu confirmed cheater :P
you need to learn the game before you make stupid comments
The Manual AA spec only increases the Manual Targeting's effect, same with the T5 secondaries spec
No. you can select an air target even without manual AA. Otherwise your AA gunners will target a fighter squadron instead of a strike squadron. Manual AA makes the AA better (higher dps), but you MUST select a target, or they will not engage aircraft. same goes for manual secondaries.
What is the name of the mod plz?
Karlsruhe, kolberg And novik plz
He's done several Karlsruhe videos.
Always hated this ship, needs a buff
Wow...piss poor AI...cant even distinguish between Water and land in the coding? Way to go WG....WTG
2nd place only gets 800 exp whereas Flamu gets 2.1k. FlamuP confirmed
How could you make a NY guide without mentioning the turret angles?
With that ship do you have that experience of being well angled from arriving ship, firing a grouped and consistent salvo that just "taxes" the target ? Fantastic accuracy when properly angled. Ny is the ultimate beast.
@@ericmarathee4926 Not really sure what you're getting at there, but the point I think flamu overlooked is that the firing arcs for New York's most restricted turret are so limited that it is not possible to safely use it when angling against incoming fire.
It's been more than 48 hours without a new video on your channel, I'm starting to panic here are you alive?
Flamu you Rank 1 yet?
I have to say the american battleships are quite manuvable for there speed
What is that line of enemy ship direction ( mini map)?
Some mod or option in settings menu?
thx
I was wondering about that, too
Its update
Guns. Sinking cruiser. Angling. Citadelling. Healing. Angling. Sinking Konig. Pushing . Sinking DD. Healing. Sinking Konig. Quiting. Citadeling. Gunning. Sinking Konig. Won.
whenever i play battleship i cant get hit, when i do i do low damage and i get shit on by other battleships.
fml
i meant i cant get a hit
My results immediately after watching. My best battle *so far* in the New York! imgur.com/a/4iSNQGc
Yeah stay in the middle. So you can become a target of 5 fucking ships in the same time
