I love this the guy doesn’t say thanks or anything snarking but asks me to enjoy the vid.
We have a legend in our midst.
thanks bro
Thank you
1) When your battleship is detected for the first time, slow to 1/4 speed... all the enemy shells of the first salvo will fall in front of you !
2 ) RUN AWAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Francois-Xavier GONNET haHAA sO fUnNy!
It’s called a tactical retreat.
3) RUN AWAY FASTER
Good tip actually.
U play french ships?
If your in a BB, don't chase a DD into cover. I watched 3 BBs chase 2 DDs behind an island and for some reason the BBs did not come out again, go figure.
If youre in a "birdbath" dont chase a "dickdiver" into....
Maybe make sure your acronyms make sense since your comment is straight jibberish.
@@blindbrailleable I hope this is sarcastic lol
Whats a BB? Also heard DB and BD or something be used before
@@Ultrajamz BB stands for Battleships and DD stands for Destroyers. CV is a Aircraft Carrier. To earn more search google by typing - US Navy Acronym system
@@blindbrailleable those are the proper acronyms for Battleship and Destroyer.
Shoot the red guys not the blue
lol
Yes, not he blue ones. hehe
But, when I run out of red ships around me, I start shooting the blue. Can't get enough damage, must maxamize in ever match.
What abt the greens? I do not find any blue :)
Pink?
@@edhikurniawan always shoot pink
Battleship players, don't sail in straight lines if there's a destroyer around.
Same goes to Cruiser players. I lost count how many Cruisers sunk because they forget steering wheels exist & are whining about how squishy their ships are.
Especially when a "Asashio" / Shimakaze / Fletcher in the other team lol
Got so much "HATE" from playing Asashio as some BB player just sail in straight for few minutes and get torp by me
Daniel Fritz Unless you can Torpedobeat
True. Whenever there are torps in the water nearby (even if they're clearly not going to hit me), or a DD pops up for a second and disappears, consider yourself their next target.
World of warship games walkthrough goo.gl/t3Qz2Q
Always gauge the biggest threat and prioritise. Also finish the kills... it's not kill stealing it's a team effort! So many times I see a ship with under 3khp get ignored because a ship nearby has over 15k ready to be dealt. A ship with 1hp is just as dangerous as a full health one.
I partially agree, however if I am in a battleship and I can deal 10K damage to a BB or finish off another ship that is on 3K, I would shoot at the ship I can deal 10K on, assuming my allies will take care of the 3K health ship, mainly due to the (average) 30 second reload on BB guns. same goes for firing torpedoes.
I would first watch if my allies are actually shooting at the low hp target. If not then i would delete it before doing 10k damage. Those 30 seconds of damage from a low hp ship hurts as much as the full hp ship.
Aim for BB's first
2 ships always deal more dmg than 1. Focus one down always
As the saying goes... " An animal is far more dangerous when wounded than it is when cornered " I always go after ships that are about to be blown to pieces, it's called playing wisely, I've seen ships clutch a match because folks are to busy trying to nail a ship full of health rather than focus on 1 that's on it's last leg and that ship came out of nowhere and reeked havoc lol
Chase you forget to mention DO NOT drop Torps right behind your teammate...
imamage and don’t decide to do a U turn into your DDs torps
how about not blocking torpedo shots?
Lol, normal for p2w player.
No he didn't. Torps take a minimum of 60 seconds to load.
No, he didn't because you're sunk automatically before you kill a friendly ship
I'd say for new players, things like aim in front of your targets movement, seen too many new players shells landing directly behind what they were directly aiming at, then rage quit because they are used to playing call of duty, and not figuring you are shooting kilometers away.
Second, know your ships, some have advantages over others. Know your torpedo range, as firing torps at a BB 6KM away in a Derski isn't going to do anything, even if its heading straight at you.
Lastly, Battleships are fun, but don't forget your rudder. Your guns take 20 seconds-ish to reload, look around, get some situational awareness by pressing that right mouse button, so your guns won't be swinging off target and turn your ship every so often similarly to what real ships did to avoid submarines.
Torpedoes are as much about taking away part of the map, or moving enemy ships, as they are about actually hitting. Fire a spread at the corners of islands where you think enemy DDs may be lurking. ALWAYS fire a spread into enemy smoke-the detection range of your torps inside a smoke cloud is Too Late. Also, don't be afraid to fire torps at a ship in free water that's got plenty of room to dodge them-he still has to dodge them, and you can force him to turn broadside to big guns on your own side. WoWS is all about angles, and torpedoes can help you manipulate those angles. If you see an enemy DD stop shooting, assume he's firing his own torpedoes.
Don't get too hung up on strengths and weaknesses. Japanese turret traverse and guns aren't quite up to some of the other options, but your Japanese DD can sink ships with gunfire just like everyone else can. German HE isn't quite as good as some of the other nations, but that doesn't mean you should give up on it. Be aware of your weaknesses, but don't obsess over them.
Stay with the other ships. If you see friendly ships attacking, attack with them. If they run, you run too. Quality helps, but Quantity is even better.
A BB shouldn't use Damage Control unless it's got two fires to put out, or it's at less than 20% health. Remember, your repair ability can fix fire damage, so it's not as serious as it looks. A CA or DD should put it out at 50%.
Sail at 3/4 speed when you can. You can't speed up to evade enemies if you're already at top speed. Save your top speed and Speed Boost for when you really need them. It's okay to be the second DD to a capture point if it means there's a CA right behind you.
Thank you. Youre comment alone did more for me than this entire video.
New player here and I definitely needed this :) so thank you and happy sailing
Good advice, thanks
agree with every point you make except the weaknesses point. especially when it comes to DDs. I see so many shimas trying to fight my halland its downright laughable. And Halland isn't even an overly strong 1v1 DD.
but yes, if the enemy DD is at 10% and you're at full, fight him. Except when He's one of the Smoke + Detection DDs.
just realized this game is exceptions deluxe.
I believe you are referring to "driving the enemy" which can be done with shells. The torpedo's are THEE best way to sink a MF.
1) don't be the first detected (yes, you play against the other team, but you also play against your own)
2) be very careful in the beginning, that cap will still be there to the end of the game
3) try hard to survive to at least half time
4) don't expect your team mates to help you out, you set yourself up for bitter disapointment
5) if you are a dd player and somebody on your team calls out to the team to give you cover, notice that he will be the first to hide behind the next island (see the clarification between cover and concealment below)
6) if you have to insult somebody please do it in a creative manner. you get more attention that way.
7) the maximum range of your guns don't have to be the most effective range
8) don't ask for a plan. There is none, We would have found it. And anyway it's a random game. Half of the team will do the exact opposite. Just follow the dds
9) You don't get anything out of surviving the battle. Running away as the last ship if you are behind points is just a waste of time.
and finally
Please keep sailing in a straight line and at constant speed, it's an endless source of enjoyment for us veteran players
You forgot #10...While the above tips from Guido are good, once you are in game, you aren't going to get many helpful suggestions or tips from your veteran teammates that are trolling lower tiers, but after their own ships have already been sunk and they are watching you fight to the bitter end, they will be sure to scream at you when you make a bad play. Just ask them, why did they die first? So that no one could point out their mistakes?
Yeah a lot like to go Admiral Halsey on people...
Then again if they're trying to be helpful then it might be worthwhile to listen to them.
And 11, try not to be the star attention of enemy team. You gonna have a hard time
What is this Murphy's law of WoWs?
Kinda, it applies pretty well to WoT also.

Nice video as usual. One military terminology clarification tho. Cover is when something hard is between you and the enemy preventing them from hitting you with fire. Concealment is when you are not visible (as in vision) to an enemy because something is obscuring visual detection. So you were using Fiji's smoke for concealment. Smoke does not provide cover since you can be hit by incoming fire while in smoke (or for army guys being concealed behind bushes or plywood, a door, etc. won't prevent being hit by blind small arms fire.)
Thank you Professor.
stop defending wargaming for ruin of the game is shit just like the tank game
Ingrates always gonna hate.
Cool. This is one of those things you don't really think about but when you hear them it totally makes sense. I mean... Getting in cover when a grenade is about to go off sounds better than getting in concealment unless you like having many little holes in vital organs that shouldn't contain quite that many holes.
In other words...we get it, you can read the dictionary
Point the naughty end of your guns towards the baddies.
The bang bang sticks go towards the enemies, not teammates.
also, the torpedo goes in the enemy ship, not in an ally ship.
5.1: there are NO repair costs...it does not matter how much damage you take. The servicing cost is applied for playing a battle at always the same amount. They can only be reduced by flags, camoflages and you can mitigate credit loss through earnings. Sitting in the rear with a full HP pool but no contribution to the match will cost you a lot more than being in the front line, spotting, capping and exacting vengence on people scratching your paint.
5.2: don't trust your team and you will not be disappointed. Instead assume you are the only wolf in a team of sheep, you have to protect them. Subsequently, assume the entire enemy fleet is a team of wolves hunting your sheep. Be pleasantly surprised when you meet a wolf on your team and a sheep in your enemy's. Do not be surprised when your sheep get slaughtered. You needed to help them. Sometimes ALL of them.
5.3: NEVER insult a player. Sarcasm has much higher penetration, alpha strike and will get you sympathy points from anyone with a sense of humour. 'Lovely broadside you had there. Can you ship it without holes?'
Dont get me started on the armchair admirals that got nuked in the first minute of the game criticizing every move his living teammates make.
I can already tell that you're not even 1 month to the game yet and not even a veteran gamer
With 5.3 I agree, but unfortunately, staying behind is rather important for Battleships. And trying to be a lone wolf in anything but a very lucky destroyer will probably get you killed. In my first week, I tried to cap with even my BB's. Stay back for at least 5 minutes and fire at idiots who try to Leeroy Jenkins your team. The only time lone wolf strategy is kind of okay it's when you're in well concealed DD and there is an aircraft carrier. You can try (but it is probably not worth it) to go fast but out of the way of other ships and attack the CV's - the more there are the merrier. But if enemy teams have half of brain, some of their BB's will stay back and you will still be in Cruisers effective range. So it really works when you're lucky and enemy team consists of idiots. Out of 5 attempts in Isokaze I've made of such a gambit, 2 resulted in destroying a good bit of enemy team CV's. 3 resulted in my idiotic death.
One thing to note about the dynamic crosshair: while it scales with your zoom level, it does NOT scale for the range of your target.
So while it's calibrated for 30 knots at mid range (10-15km), you'll need to increase your lead time at close range (about 2x at 5km or closer) and shorten it for super long range.
Ziegenbartami Isn't it the other way around - Shortening the lead at short ranges and increasing it at longer ranges?
Nope. When I'm shooting at a ship that's
Out of pandemic lockdown boredom I started playing Wows and realized pretty quickly that while I had some idea what to do after watching lots of videos I was pretty terrible in practice. Been binging your vids for a bit (along with others) and they've been a great help. Gone from being pretty frustrated wondering what I was doing so wrong to actually surviving matches. Only T5 so nothing spectacular but it's a fun way to waste time when my insomniac butt can't sleep and can't go out so thanks!
Honestly if you don't switch to AP on a german cruiser when the enemy gives you broadside (but only broadside, no slight angle - it performs worse on angles than any other cruiser) you miss out. A good HE salvo gives you maybe 6k damage on a Hindenburg, while over 10k without citadels on AP and if you get citadels... Its AP damage is great while yes it gets the 1/4 HE pen but german HE does a lot less raw damage than other nation's HE.
if I had to add a 6th thing it would be "Pay attention to where you spawn and which side you will want your stern guns to start on." It sucks to have your rear turrets down while they are swinging around for nearly 2 mins while you are being shot to hell.
I always try and position myself so that I am most likely going to be attacked where my big guns are pointing. I try and hug islands so I do not have to worry as much about my other side.
how does a new player have any control of where they spawn in a new battle? I'm 2 weeks in and have zero clue about this aspect.
@@lgd1974 you don't. What he means is be aware of where you spawn on the map so you can kind of guess where the enemy will be coming from. Also keep in mind that the enemy spawns in the same formation your team does (so for example, your team spawns in a line like this facing north: DD CL BB CV BB CL DD. The enemy will spawn in the same formation across the map, facing south).
This is more important for ships with slow turret traverse (turret turns slowly). While your front turrets can follow your crosshair with no problems, your rear turrets cant do so. Let's say you're aiming to the left of your ship's bow and an enemy ship appears to the right of your bow. Your front turrets simply rotate clockwise to fire at at the enemy. Your rear turrets often cant do so because there's the chimney/superstructure in the way. Instead, your rear turrets must rotate counterclockwise (the long way around) to aim at the enemy.
There may be some exceptions depending on the ship design (just look at your ship model and apply common sense), but more often than not, this is the case.
I keep coming back to this video, to refresh my mind about the things i need to remember. ( old and forgetful ) thanks for making it easy and clear to understand.
Great clarification of overmatch and autobounce; thank you. I think it needs to be emphasised that the autobounce only counts at really shallow glancing angles (like skipping a stone across the water), because the Yubari belt armour that bounces battleship shells at grazing angles will let it straight in when broadside.
The other thing that needs emphasising is the stupidly short fuze timer on British cruiser AP, such that you can take battleships' bow sections broadside for quite substantial damage because it doesn't overpenetrate.
THANK YOU for explaining the dynamic crosshair! I never knew what that did,s o I never switched to it. It's taking a bit of getting used to, but I think it'll really help my first-strike accuracy.
THANK YOU! I've seen so many resourcing saying that the dynamic crosshairs are "calibrated for 30 knots" without actually explaining *how* they're calibrated or how to read/use them. I'd worked out by trial and error that each tick was calibrated to shell flight time, but your video is the first confirmation I've seen that actually explains that. It probably took me 50 games to work it out for myself, which is ridiculous when it takes 10 seconds to explain. Yet I've seen 20-30+ reply discussions on both reddit and the WoWS forum all about the crosshairs... and not one explanation of this in the simplest of detail. So again, thank you.
Another great vid. Thanks :) Great point about using the map. More & more players ignore it and carry on wandering around their little corner of the map without looking and reacting... so never expect help. If it arrives.. thank them!! One gripe I do have most often is that players will move from 1 side of the map to the other at the start. This wastes time and does nothing to assist the other players that spawned near you. Often I'm in a BB and the only other ship nearby is a cruiser and he runs off to play with his friends on the other side of the screen. BB's as we know don't move very fast and when this happens are more often than not, the first to get nailed. Therefore not helping your team and leaving a flank wide open.
Thank you for uploading this. Never knew about the crosshair dynamic setting. I might actually not suck so much now. Appreciate you taking time to do this.
Very useful, thanks! Been playing for years, but still learned some things about configuring the minimap, details of auto bounce, and I'll be trying the dynamic crosshair.
Very helpful, I needed the explanation on the settings, I am proud that I found most of them on my own but I am really glad for the expla on the spotting and being seen, some opponents really have blasted me to hell. Great video!
Just watched this vid last night, applied your points and had decent damage, but, more importantly, survived in shootouts with others. Good information, I will watch more of your videos and just subscribed
When you were doing the shell matching listings, I think a very, very important thing you omitted is the special characteristic of British cruiser AP: their super-quick fuzing. Thus, British cruiser AP is effective against destroyers where AP normally will overpen. This is important for a new player to know so they're not a DD assuming that the British cruiser firing AP at them will just overpen and do minimal damage, or they're not that British cruiser thinking that it's pointless to attack the DD because they can't do anything.
Thanks for this video! I'll try to correct one of the biggest mistakes I always do: showing the flank. I know that the flank has less durability than the front or the rear of the ship, and there are less possibility for bouncing. But I always navigate "exposing" the flank, so I can use all the main batteries of the ship on the same target. But obviously this is very dangerous. For example in the at 13:47 you was shooting at the Cleveland. After that, you start shooting to the other ship and meanwhile you are moving turning to the right, to expose less flank and let enemy's ammo bouncing on your armor. Well, if I was you, probably I would move turning to the left, to keep having all the cannons on the enemy's ship. But doing so, I would have the entire right flank exposed.
I wasn't aware people actually try to calculate shell flight time and lead indicator lol. Good aim is an acquired feeling IMO. I don't put any math behind my volleys and I have damn good aim. Been using static forever. I feel like overcomplicating things is more of a detriment than a benefit.
that means you have better RNG
lol trust... I don't have good RNG.
In the end it all comes down to "feeling" but in some situations it's very damn useful to actually be able to calculate where the shells are going to land.
Yep. Tried dynamic sight once. Never again.
Gut aim git gud 😂
I dont use dynamic Aiming, I use the Static, and yes you can use the shell flight time it tells you with the numbers on the horizontal bar with 100% accuracy everytime. Once you use that indicator, then it becomes feeling of how much you need to push the aim up or down to adjust for his angle, and how far forward or back by a few notches based on his speed of his ship, and ta-da free citadels nearly everytime, if not huge damage.
Great tips Ichase. Learned alot, especially about concealment and line of sight.
i did wonder why i was getting blown up on such a regular basis, am just realizing that this game is much deeper than i had thought. i was just like shooting at the bad guys, "overmatch" etc never crossed my mind. I have to say though, iv'e tried sitting in a smoke screen and i still managed to get blown to smithereens. Think i need a bigger ship.
People are attracted to smokescreens. If the enemy has a CV, disable your anti air, and stay still or 1/4 in the smoke, assuming you are not spotted or recently cut loose.
5:59 "this enemy des moine can go bow into me all day long"... phrasing

Ya made me laugh so gg
Thanks for good info. Ammo types were always a question for me.
Best introduction guide to the game I've ever seen! Thumbs up!
I just started playing 3 days ago. I was wondering why they keep telling me to use AP's. But your video explained that as a UK navy Battleship that I should use HE instead. My HE's wreck everything except other BB's. So I learned something today. Thank you.
Pro Tip from the Sinksalot Fleet, Enlarge the Mini Map [use the +/- keys] and get into a habit of always looking at it. This will feed you the information you need on where you are and position of friendly or enemy ships. Also don't stay locked into the scope view, Right Click for free camera and check your surrounding for threats.
great video. only thing i can think to add, or rather double down on, is try to know your ships. for example, if you're gonna play a dd, you need to know concealment ranges of the other dd's as well as cruisers, and if you plan on living very long, know the radar and sonar ranges of the various ships you're up against. trust me, the more info you know, the better off you'll be. my own personal win rate sky rocketed when i finally took the time to experience the ships that seemed less desirable to me simply because it made me more aware of their capabilities.
Twisted Pixel and not only learn the specs of other ships and ship types, one of the best things I can recommend to any player is don’t focus on one line to the detriment of the others. You can like playing one more or do better in one than others, but if you know how the other two classes you will face work, you can deal with them more efficiently.
Learn the torp ranges of the enemy ships and their stats corresponding to that. I can read the ranges of the Shima due to this merely by their torp rating number on the load screen.
That is not really something you should expect from now players tbh.
When you have Graf spee and you see three cruiser attacking you. Scuttle
Thanks for putting the time into these videos. I'm just starting out on WofW (late to the party), and the one thing I note is that there are so many things that are just not explained, I have to guess my way around.
Your’e right. The game itself is not easy to understand, but easy to get absorbed into.
OMFG! I swear, I've been playing since OBT, watching countless videos over the years and always have wondered where the "last known position" feature came from. I suspected it was some obscure mod but not ONCE did it occur to me that it might already be in the base game ...
Thank you so much for pointing me to this - I will now spend the rest of the weekend making a fashionable donkey hat for myself ...
Good initiative, this summer has shown me again and again how so many people still need to go over these basics and master them to become better at the game. WP! Chase
I've played since OBT and alot have changed since then so it's not just "learn the basics" but "Keep up to date" with those basics when they change. The game is changeing now and then and not everybody knows that.
Grate video for players that have just started playing
IChase - thanks for the hints! I immediately changed my mini map settings and it has really helped!
wow the overmatch, bounce, overpen bit sounds like alot of remember, especially needing to remember which ship has how much armor and their gun size ... dont think i would be able to remember all those
then you haven't played World Of Tanks lmao
you'll never retain all the armor info, just remember what caliber guns you have and use HE if there are any doubts
@@CharlieFoxtrot lol thanks for the simplified advice.. will keep that in mind
Those are some good tips. I use some of them a lot, but everybody can always learn something useful. Good video thanks.
i'm more concerned on where you get the custom training battle from....
In game you can select random battles, co-op etc. At the bottom there is something called training. You can make a lobby in there with the ocean map. Annoyingly you can't make a training match in a division, so you invite your friends separately

I think some good advice would also be start with the cruiser line you want. Do some research on the various navies and learn the game in a cruiser.
I'm a newish player and really like these videos, even if some of it is stuff I have already have learned. It'd be helpful if someone did a video about just situational awareness. It seems some players just naturally "get it", but some of us (most of us?) don't. I'm looking for information beyond the usual "watch the MM" and "get out of sniper view". I do those, but don't know much about what to be looking for on the MM.
Speaking of tip 5. I once charged a carrier in USS St Louis and dodged the enemy’s aircraft just by going off of the mini map. I sunk the carrier by the way just jinking and firing all the way.
I also consider that you have to comunicate with team and team with you. 99% of the games I played no one replied when i asked what are the intentions at the beggining of the game. When good communicative team, always winn in less than 15 mins. Also, aiming calculation is for low fireing rate ships as bbs. In other ships u cannnot calculate as until u finish ur math u r dead. Is a mastered skill to fire without math.
been playing this game for years and never knew about the dynamic settings lmao ive been eyeballing the lead this whole time, also didnt know about armor angling. i knew world of tanks had it and i was alway good about angling armor. also thought the only difference in hp and ap was one caused fire and the other caused incapacitation and flew faster, lol ive been playing this game wrong this whole time.
Beautifully done video. Now what formations for which maps/ships are the best ?
Please and thank you
Nobody on CZcams seems to mention the superstructure. The ships superstructure takes massive damage from pens even when fully bow on, just fire AP at the superstructure and you really never have to worry about switching to HE or not dealing good damage.
I've played WoWs before but getting back into it this video help a lot thx
I get why you suggested dynamic cross hairs, but I still believe static 8 is superior to dynamic mainly because when firing you're nearly always zoomed in all the way so dynamic's bonus is minimized while ships are going diagonal much more often than when you're needing to not be fully zoomed in.
Learn to use the tick marks and horizon line on the sight reticle to calculate shot placement on a ship sailing at an angle relative to your ship.
Use high rate of fire cruisers with HE shells and target the nearest battleship while hiding in smoke or behind an island.
First good tutorial on WoW that I found, Well done!
I just started this game and these tips have been great. I haven't been on a losing team yet.
I know a while ago, if you hit a DD bow on with AP, you could do some impressive damage. Do not know if that has changed though.
I still prefer static crosshair type 6 (or is it 8?). The one that looks like the Union Jack.
Most of the time your targets are at an angle, and that reticle really helps leading such targets.
Good guide I instantly got citadel hits because of your tips thank you very much
Very well said under the pay attention to teammates though you could have added (don't be that guy) the guy that deliberately does the friendly fire thinking it's cute. Racking up the roe roe roe your boat.
Tip: if u have a full salvo ready to fire at a speeding cruiser, I’d prefer to fire one gun and if that misses I’d just your aim a bit (long range)
As far as I'm concerned, the number one rule is to regularly check the minimap.
I think you overemphasize detectability range, in a destroyer its more important to know how to use a smokescreen when making an attack against ships with longer shooting range. Also tier IV battleships have spotter planes you can use. Even though Ive reached tier VI I prefer fighting with tier IV ships which makes tactics more predictable. I also happen to think that the glacially slow rotation movement of the turrets on battleships are the biggest factor to deal with when using battleships.
Nice video. Can someone tell me if there is a resource where you can check the penetration numbers for ship HE (I know about 1/6 and 1/4 rule, i want to know which to apply to which ship and how this rule applies to secondaries)?
Does the British HE pen rule also apply to the Monarch? I notice the chance of fire goes down significantly from the t7 King George to the t8 Monarch and wondered if there was an exception to the rule. HE does not seem to do much damage at t8 battles and only 381cm guns.
Ichase could you look at the armor modle of the KGV and Duke of York from the above the ship view. Now for my question doesn't Number one and three turrets look off center with to much exposed upper Barbette armor exposed.
Great video, helpful even to a veteran player. Thank you for the content.
Very good advice! I always enjoy your videos.
just started legend and love it but needed intel :) thank you
Thanks man , very helpful 👍👍👍
I would like to say that dynamic crosshair isn’t the end all be all of crosshairs. Choose what is comfortable for you and what you like to aim with. It’s a similar aiming system but scaled to 20kts (I think). I use dynamic, but to each their own.
I use static, only because I've been here since Open Beta and that was all there was at the time. I'm used to it now, and whenever I try using dynamic ones I never hit anything.
Ian ONeill Yeah, static has actually worked for me extremely well, I can hit rather consistently
*Coming from a BB player, though I do dabble in cruisers a fair amount, with the rare DD game*
For an advanced player who has been using static, probably staying with static is best.
But for a newbie, Dynamic is better. Use Dynamic and do not switch back and forth. Switching will just mess you up.
But aiming in the end comes by "feel" which only comes by doing it a lot! (like riding a bike).
Gary Anderson II or a grill ;D
Not sure if Dynamic Crosshair should be the #1 recommendation for new players. It's very helpful that you mention that it's scaled to 30kts but, most low tier ships barely have half of that even when full speed. Rather I think the Type7 static crosshair is best for beginners to at least familiar themselves with aiming at ships going at an angle.
Horace Leung he said that because his aiming example was using dynamic crosshair. If anyone watching the video with static crosshair followed the advice, they're gonna have a bad time.
As a BB main, I always use AP. Even did a comparison of damage between HE and AP and found I almost always will do more damage in a match with AP than HE. I can't trust fires to do damage consistently in a BB. And anytime I do load HE, I find I was wishing for AP as a perfect shot lined up.
holy shit!!! I never knew how the crosshair worked till now and I have been playing the game for 2 years and still landing pretty good salvos all these time!
your probably at this point only using your crosshair as refrence for the line not the marks for speed and such.. you probably don't even realize I know a few people who that I mean angled ships half the time I just know where to set my shot I can do so quik I doubt it even regesters its just reaction..
Some German DDs can also use AP against Cruisers even on somewhat further Ranges.
Their 150mm Guns Penetrate Fairly Reliably and its Hilarious when a Cruiser goes Broadside to get Guns on you and then Realizes that your Citadeling him over and over xD
really helped, thx a lot, u r a legend!!!
Very helpful video!thanks
Is there any tips for low tier CV? Because tier 4 and 5 CV cant use alternate/manual drop, it is hard to hit fast ships. I usually do cross drop with 2 torpedo squads and captain skill that increase torpedo speed. but still few success in hitting DDs :p
Some more tips: (full disclosure I'm not a unicum) Tip #1: Use your replays. If you have a bad game watch the replay and look for improvements in things like: Target selection, ammo selection, positioning, angles, map awareness, etc. also if you have a great game watch that and pat yourself on the back but still look for improvements. Tip #2: If you are struggling with a specific ship or ship class; i.e. Destroyers, then go to WOW's replay site and snag the top-rated (by damage or exp) replays and watch them a few times, and try to understand why that game turned out so well for that person.
I don't think the German HE 1/4 pen applies to German Destroyers, just Cruisers from what I read of the WG files. Also, AP is needed against certain high-tier Russian DDs like the Khabarosk Tier X as that is heavily armored for a DD.
important: high tier BBs with big guns (think 15" or 16" guns) overpenetration is not a big concern, because it will still do a ton of damage. with 16" guns only a few DDs can handle more than a dozen overpenetrations, while 8 overpenetrations on lighter cruisers will instantly kill them. also learn about plunging fire. remember that most ships have thinner deck armor than their belts, so you can get better penetration at longer distances where the shells fly at a steeper trajectory. I use this tactic against BBs coming head on, by aiming at the superstructure at a long range i can still do penetration damage with plunging fire. This is actually something most people overlook in the game. This DOES NOT work at close range with flat shell trajectories, and you'll only get overpenetrations like that. While it's nearly impossible to get citadels like this, it's a good way to inflict steady damage without having to switch shells.
Okay, at 1:15, you open up the mini-map options. How? Whenever I move my mouse around, it just moves the camera; there's no cursor with which to open that tab. I ended up dying when I spent ages trying to open it and wound up surrounded by about 5 ships, and I'd like to know how to do this before I throw another game in the can trying futilely.
I figured it out; apparently pressing CTRL brings up the cursor.
Some player should make the mini map a bit more transparent, so that they see friendly sailing next to them and not torp at friendly.
this game can be very frustrating to say the least . ships that just disapear completly , then reappear in different locations. [ can they time travel or something ] ? torpedeos that just appear out of thin air also . no ships or planes around for miles , but somehow torpedeos just appear directly in front of you . And .. some large ships seem to be able to rapid fire , like my ships take 15 or 30 seconds to reload , but these ships like reload in in about 1 second. all this XP stuff and dooblooms and credits. its a good game , but it needs to be fixed up a bit.
Turn collision avoidens systems off
why, what does it do?
steers you away from collisions, which is stupidly dangerous as it wastes time between you and hiding behind that mountain that is about to save you from a full BB salvo.
Keep the warnings on, so you know you are about to hit something, but turn avoidance system off. Nothing more annoying than your system going broadside without your consent because you get to close to an island.
Ah so thats a thing, im new and i noticed that i autsteered away when i was heading into land its rly annyoing, thx noe i can turn it off :D
I’ve used mountains to gank destroyers & and cruisers into wasting their torpedos then I full return some vary sharp fire
I'm kind of new to the game (meaning, I haven'tr played many matches yet, even though I first played the game when it still was young, when there were only the American and Japanese tech tree) and one thing I still struggle with is what to do as a BB.
I've heard a lot of complaining about people playing BBs too passively, staying at the edge of the map and sniping, being not very useful to anyone and I have seen such guys ruin matches myself. So I try not to be like that and go in, help out and so on. Unfortunately it seems that often is the wrong thing to do also. You're so helpless against close range torpedo attacks in a BB.
Is there any advise you can give on how to find the right balance between aggression and self preservation?
stay back at the start of the match, you can close in much safer after most DDs are spotted and engaged or dead.
Great advice sir, the mini map is so important, You could have put that on your list twice.
Very good tips. I play Hipper alot and AP seems to do alot better than HE.
A very useful video. Thank you!
Quick PSA to the guys who are using larger minimaps, do make it transparent or translucent to however you see fit so as to not friendly fire or be friendly fired.
As an battleship when do you use he ap shells? Cause the game vid tells me further than 10km use he and closer ap

I’m new on PS and I can’t figure out the current campaign thing. It says I can unlock a ship but everything has lock symbols and says obtain admiralty backing. I can find any info on it.
Sorry for being late. But as you may know, campaign and missions are not actually story missions, but they are assignments in which you complete the tasks in order to gain whatever their rewards are. Campaigns are usually long assessments that last for a long time, as they take a long time to complete, to reach a new milestone in the campaign, you need to unlock milestone points I believe they are called correct me if I am wrong, and you unlock and collect these points by completing task in the ,'weekly havoc' section of your missions, these points are awarded upon completion of the task, and they they will unlock new milestones which give you new rewards. 'Admiralty backing' is where you can spend doubloons (or gold for short) to unlock additional rewards for every milestone you reach, and usually at the end of the campaign if you make it far enough in the milestones, you can unlock an exclusive ship. But basically Admiralty backing is just where you spend gold to get more rewards for every rank up in the campaign, doubloons are usually acquired from the store by paying money, but there are some cases where you can receive them from special activities, such as ranking up in the Ranked Battles. I hope this answers your questions.
How do we even get to know the flight time of different ships shells and doesn't it vary with distance?
It is worth noting in the concealment section that being on fire increases the range you can be spotted at. "A ship that is on fire will have 3 km added to their detectability range (2 km by air) for as long as it is on fire. The increase does not stack with multiple fires." wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Detection#Fires
I have always thought the Dynamic reticle was for 20 knots not 30. I've been really good at hitting DD's with that 20 knot as value; been doubling the distance for those ships I consider going 20 knots like the lower Tier uS BB's and newer BB's making turns.
But let's say it's 30 knot reticle; If a DD goes 30 knot, does it hit midships OR the front? -Do we have to take the ships size into consideration for the dynamic reticle?
Great tutorial though, especially if it's 30 knot for the Dynamic reticle!
