      The PSP was a beastly handheld, it was somewhere in-between the PS1 and PS2 in terms of hardware specs and SFA3 came out for PS1 so PSP would have no problem running it at all.

      @@drlight6677 You could run the PS1 version of SFA3 on the PSP perfectly fine, since it played PS1 games with ease. But there was no point since Alpha 3 Max was so much better and featured packed, no to mention custom made for the unit.

      @Bloodreign1 Před 4 lety +19

      You do realize, that without the power of the 4 MB RAM cart, this game would not have run at all on the Saturn without some sacrifices. The RAM cart did wonders for this game, Vampire Savior, X-Men Vs Street Fighter, and Marvel Super Heroes Vs Street Fighter.

    • @mario4everd
      @mario4everd Před rokem +5

      @@Bloodreign1 still doesn't take away that the saturn was better built for these games. Even without the ram cart, games like alpha 2 on saturn retained more frames of animations than the ps1 version as well as games like x men children of the atom. Even without the ram cart, based on previous ports, it would've still been closer to the arcade version compared to at least the ps1 version of the game. Also having the possibility of ram expansion is a design choice to reduce initial costs because sega knew they wanted to expand the hardware's capabilities. So by technicality it still falls into how forward thinking the saturn was designed for 2d games in general, or it wouldn't have had the ability to expand on the hardware to begin with.

    • @BurritoKingdom
      @BurritoKingdom Před 8 měsíci

      Faster loading has to do with the Saturn having 512KB of RAM for the CD-ROM and the SH-1 as a CD-ROM controller rather than it being a 2D powerhouse. The PS1 had 32KB of RAM for the CD-ROM and a Motorola 68HC05 as the controller for the CD-ROM. I think Saturn games overall had faster loading times than the PS1 whether they were 2D or 3D.

      I give it 95%, the highest score among all of them. 2% off for not having stage select in various modes and 3% off for not having PSP extra characters ^^
      On the other hand I give Street Fighter Zero 2 Alpha on Saturn 100%, only in terms of the whole package but not in terms of it being a better game, because just like SFZ3 on Saturn the overall performance is perfect but also stage select and all extra characters are there. As far as the entire quality of both Saturn version's SFZ2A and SFZ3 is concerned I will always rate them as equally good with each of their own unique right.

    I hadn't realised that the version of unlockable version SFA3^ on the PS2 Alpha Anthology was merely an emulated version of the Naomi arcade version, and that the other Alphas were just emulated straight from CPS.
    Personally, my favourite versions are the PSP Alpha 3 Max and Naomi arcade because both retain most sprites and gameplay mechanics, whilst including some extra characters (although I do agree with you that the extra ones on the PSP version do make it look like Mugen because they were simply taken straight from other games without Capcom bothering to style them similarly to Alpha characters).

    DO you know what's going on with the arcade mode and the added characters from the console versions to the arcade port of SF alpha anthology? (meaning Dee Jay, Fei Long, T Hawk, Guile etc.). I have read, that there is a code with which, those characters with Juli, Juni, Shin Akuma and Evil Ryu can become available for battling against them in arcade mode), BUT ONLY FOR STREET FIGHTER ALPHA 3 UPPER VERSION!!
    I would like to know, if in the ps1 version of the game (where Dee Jay, T.Hawk and Fei Long are available from the beggining), can anyone battle against them in arcade mode? I have played many hours SFA3 in ps1 as a kid, but it has been many years from then, so I can't remember if I came across those specific characters in the arcade mode.

    Obviously the Saturn kicks the PS1's arse, but I was very impressed with what they managed to squeeze out of the PS1. Considering the tiny RAM and inferior 2D hardware of the PS1, tgey did an amazing job. It took forever for the Saturn version to finally get released but it was worth the wait! Zero 2 will always be my favourite though. It is just a shame that the Saturn's samples were so damn compressed. The Saturn had a superior sound chip to the PS1, so I never understood that.

      PS1 has No 2D hardware. It’s all 3D GPU accelerated recreations of 2D raster based art and assets. Dreamcast has no 2D hardware either. The only systems in this group that actually have real raster based anything is the GBA, CPS2, and the Sega Saturn, and even the Saturn only has it for backgrounds, the sprites are textured quads.
      And the Anthology collection is emulated, so NO 3D GPU stuff is used to recreate any of it outside of the framebuffer it displays its visuals on.

SFA3 plays exactly like the arcade and then some nice stuff in the bonuses (dip switch menu to change it to a optional slightly bug fixed version, a real training mode). SFA3U PS2 is easily arcade exceeding, it has the extra chars without any of the show stopping flaws of the Dreamcast port it originates from (which then affected the NAOMI version or the real “arcade version” of SFA3U -_-). I’ve heard SFA3U is so much better on PS2 due to being a hack of the CPS2 SFA3 rather than a native port from NAOMI.

    I really wish capcom would give alpha 3 the remix treatment since it's their biggest, most ambitious and cohesive street fighter game. I'd say do something where they combine the best elements of cvs and cvs2 and remix that but that would involve dealing with snk so that would be a lot harder to get going. Alpha 3 is theirs and since they're doing glory day games like everyone's favorite resident evil games it makes sense to do a fighter. I know they don't want to affect/cannibalize sfv but this would at least be great to do at the end of that games lifecycle and would be absolutely massive and not some "hd" version like they did with sf2 though I'd settle for it if it's all they were willing to do.

It is probably one of the most IMPRESSIVE ports for a handheld ever made, if not THE best. The whole game's there (sans the intro and some tracks/voice samples, but they are ultimately cosmetic changes), and its gameplay is just phenomenal!!! Kinda makes one irate to see other GBA ports of technically INFERIOR games that were just pure trash. (Looking at you, Sonic!)

    -Saturn version has yet one big flaw,it's unplayable if you use v-ism,too much slowdown,all the timings of combos are messed up.
    -For the ps1 version there are many other flaws concerning gameplay:some Dhalsim limbs are slower,cody's stand lk hitbox being shrunk...,less invincibility on v-ism trigger,and shadows in v-ism act differently and then some arcade v-ism combo no longer work(with cody for instance).
    At that time they were doing shit trying to nerf or improve some little things within alpha 3 versions ..Dee jay's air slasher recovery for exemple was fucked up on ps1/sat,then on dreamcast they nerfed it but waaay too much,it has too much recovery and the character is then also fucked up lol
