The picture of Hydroman with all the iconic 90s CB covers😂
@@rebelpunk13 Glad someone liked that gag. But like think about it, if Hydroman tricked you into drinking him and he's inside you, you're done. This is the kind of shit I think about lol. Also I chose that artwork because it was used in the Marvel/DC VS. System card game which I played back in the day.
MVC2 was the first game in the series I played, and I kind of just assumed that there was only one game before it. Its cool to see how much history the series actually has, and I'm excited to give them all a try. Thanks for the informative video!
@@IamLaTerry Thank you for watching. Glad you found it informative.
Goated retrospective!
Great video! I love these games!
Oh man Captain Commando and Mega Man were my fav tag team back when I played the arcade version of MVc 1.
Loved it when you left MVC2 as is by saying “what can I say”!
MvC introduced me to jin and warmachine. I still play that team to this day on that and MvC2...
This was great and I’m glad you pointed out how integral the first marvel games were for Marvel 2.
One other thing that many people don’t know about this time period is that after Marvel’s license expired DC approached Capcom in the 2000’s & pitched them an idea for a DC fighting game, but capcom declined bc they weren’t interested in making fighting games at the time. Sad but it does make you wonder what would’ve happened if Capcom said yes.
@@studi0651 Interesting, I've never heard of that happening. Timeline lines up though, that would have been around when Capcom Fighting Jam was released. And I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thank you.
Really? I heard Bengus(?) say that it was because "DC didn't have enough characters in the same league as Marvel aside from Batman" that's why they denied it.
Still sucks though, Capcom could have easily made a Batman fighting game and honestly, a better Justice League game than the one we got on the Super Nintendo.
Good stuff brother!
@@TRIPLECORONAS Thank you, I appreciate it.
I can confirm that CGI from the 90s Spider-man show has aged like milk out in the hot sun.
Ill still drink said milk
@@redreploid1713 Even if it's moldy?
Well, damn. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
Its MAAAAAAHVEL

Cant wait to get and replay these games again. I had most of them on playstation but the games got lost over the years.
@@seancastle3769 Unfortunately the PS1 ports of these games were pretty bad. I had X-Men vs SF and it felt unpayable due to the frame rate. If that's the only way you've played them I think you'll be pleasantly surprised when you revisit them through the collection.
Akuma is the OG Crossover character
Great retrospective dear Char...xmen vs. sf actually had a sliver of story/ plot....u can find it in the back section of the card blister of the xmen vs. sf toyline by toy biz...its basically Apocalypse summoning the street fighters from another dimension to do his bidding but all goes wrong for him! 😅😂
The back of action figures packaging? Now that's a deep cut.
Nice video and honestly, as a MvC2 diehard. I can definitely respect the other titles in the VS. series. I spent healthy amounts of playing MvC in the arcades and played the rest through MAME. While MvC2 is goated, theres no denying Onslaught was a badass and it played a huge part in introducing me to some of Capcom's classic franchises the same way many nowadays know classic Nintendo franchises through Smash (funny how Mega Man is in both lol)
Some anecdotes worth mentioning, Shadow isn't a palette swap per se as in MSHvF, base Charlie isn't playable and is part of the lore that he and Shadow Lady share. Also, Japan had a hidden character called Norimario, who wasn't that great but had a unique theme. Sadly, he was cut from the collection. :(
The games in the collection I'm looking forward to playing the most are X-Men Children of the Atom and Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, since I've never played those two before.
We need marvel vs capcom vs darkstalkers
Let me take you for a ride.
It’s interesting how devoid of Todd McFarlane Spider-Man art these games are ( I believe all the Spider-Man art used was by…Tom Lyle and maybe one or two from Mark Bagley) Marvel must’ve hated Todd so much by this point they essentially banned all reference to him. They ended up doing the same with Jim Lee as time went on. Of All of the art Jim Lee X-men art that exists, there was no reason to use clip art from b-team artists like the Kuberts.
You forgot to mention Akuma in children of the atom.
I mentioned him being in it twice, 4:30 and 8:35.
Curious question......
Why's Akuma on X-men, is there a backstory there?🤔🤔
@@wyvrnsteinwicked From what I understand part of the deal was that Capcom was allowed to put a Street Fighter chapter in the game and they chose Akuma.
If we are getting a new marvel vs capcom game can we get x men beast and Blanka in it
To be honest the only time comic books in the 90's ever had a boom in popularity was in the early 90's. After that comic book stores weren't selling anything past the mid-90's. It's one of the many reasons why Marvel sold all their movie rights to multiple movie studios.
@@CyborgSnake2042 This is true, however what I was really getting at was that the medium of comic books was everywhere. Lemme elaborate; you had the speculator era of comics in the early 90's like you're saying along with the launch of X-Men TAS and Batman TAS which led straight into Spiderman in 94 and Superman in 96. These games of course which would end up spanning into 2000 with MvC2. Plus there was the reruns of the old Hulk show on TV at this time. Plus the Batman 89 sequels. That's what I was getting at, comic books themselves def crashed in the mid 90's but the characters and stories were still everywhere in other media.
@@RedCometXIII Yeah well said man I agree
@@CyborgSnake2042 Thanks man.
i think the game that introduces air combos started from MSH not from XCOTA since combo timings are a bit looser on MSH compared to XCOTA. or maybe im wrong.. also MVC started a new timed tag control. could use supers and special moves where your tag character could do the same or equivalent of your command inputs on a limited time.
@@eduardobernales350 If you wanna be technical you could say air combos were introduced in Darkstalkers since that's where the Marvel games lifter them from.
@@RedCometXIII technically yeah, again with strict frame timings. but the term "air combo" and the lose button timings came from marvel. its been so long, i could be wrong tho..
@@eduardobernales350 Yeah, I'm not doubt you it's just we're kinda splitting hairs by talking about what is or isn't an air combo, ya know?
I'd probably end up playing the older titles. The aesthetics of MVC2 (and 3) never really appealed to me.
Yeah that's one thing about MvC2 that has never sat right with me. I feel like the music and stages are really generic. Feels like none of it is based on either Capcom or Marvel.
In the late 1980’s into the 1990’s all the way into 2000’s way before 2010, Disney did not own Marvel yet.
@@thunderlightning1980 Right. Disney bought Marvel Entertainment in 2009. CAPCOM lost the Marvel license in 2012 when Disney was gung-ho about self publishing but once that cooled off they re-upped with CAPCOM, MvC Infinite shit the bed in 2017 and that was it until the MVC collection comes out.
They renew it because they are bleeding money rigth now with their loss in the box office it was obvius that nintendo would get the deal
