This movie is special. It's not everyday Sean Bean lives through a movie!
Well, he lived through Death Race 2. Among others. But that one's not a spoiler like the others.
@@mblackwl No he didn't the Triad shot him at the pool and he fell in. The Triad threw him the money clip and he said Well done Luke, well done.
I laughed out loud. Hahahahaha
Don't forget the two Percy Jackson movies
And then there's The Martian. Which is a very special movie in so many ways.
The main actor’s name was Nicholas Cage. The villain was played by Sean Bean, who you might know better as Boromir from Lord of the Rings.
What I love most about the movie aside from the humor, it's that the treasure wasn't just your stereotypical treasure of gems and precious metals, but rather all kinds of items of both historical and cultural value that is priceless to those who appreciate it. Kinda brought me back to the time that I visited the Vatican. While I'm not catholic, going through the vast museum they have there and the buildings themselves was stil amazing to me.
So I was actually I was at the Vatican just last year and I was completely astounded by the overwhelming amount of art. Not just pictures, sculptures and canvases but even the walls and ceilings. It went on and on for literal hours before you ever got to the Sistine chapel. It was kind of humbling. At one point they had a hall built for" extras," throwaways. And I was astounded by the throwaways. By the time My wife and I got to the Sistine chapel we were so overwhelmed. It was just like oh look at that more art. We were supposed to be on a group tour but nobody else showed up. So we got the tour guide all to ourselves and he was an actual historian. He told us every little detail and it just was way too much after 4 hours. I could probably go back to the Vatican 5 more times and still see new art every single time. Rome is amazing but holy crap dirty.
@@AwesomeUSMovies It is indeed overwhelming. When I was in Rome we set aside a whole day just for the Vatican. 😆
@@AwesomeUSMovies There is stuff in the Vatican that needs Heavily Armed Troops. I've seen them! Touring Vatican City in 1977 I looked down a long hallway that was blocked off and down at the end were 4 Guards in Camo with Uzis! Even on the Vatican website it acknowledges their "Secret Archives" ....
Surprised you haven’t heard of Nicholas Cage yet. He’s a nephew of famous director Francis Ford Coppola. He changed his last name to Cage, apparently partially after Marvel character Luke Cage, to distance himself from the Coppola name to build on his own merits, and boy has he. He’s a really good actor and isn’t afraid to occasionally take weird parts.
Nicholas Cage - 1985-2000's super star movie actor. Oscar winner for his role in "Leaving Las Vegas". A truly depressing but most realistic portrayal of an alcoholic. His work in "City of Angels" was fantastic. Dozens more of great movies he has done.
Still a great actor! Just needs the right movies...
Nicolas Cage (Benjamin Franklin Gates) is actually a member of the famous Coppola family. The most famous name is director Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather trilogy and Apocalypse Now are his most recognizable movies).
Nicolas Cage (born Nicolas Coppola) is his nephew, and a nephew of Talia Shire (Adrian in Rocky), who is Francis Ford Coppola's sister. Talia Shire's son, Cage's first cousin, is Jason Schwartzman, who played Gideon (one of the ex-boyfriends) in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.
The reason for the name change is because Cage wanted to avoid nepotism associated with being Francis Ford Coppola's nephew. He took his stage name both from comic book character Luke Cage and avant-garde composer John Cage.
Justin Bartha, who plays Riley Poole, was Doug the groom in The Hangover (the one that everybody leaves behind).
Other cast members:
Sean Bean as Ian Howe
Diane Kruger as Dr. Abigail Chase
Harvey Keitel as Agent Sadusky
Jon Voight as Patrick Henry Gates (the father)
Christopher Plummer as John Adams Gates (the grandfather)
Jack Koenig as Charles Carroll (the Founding Father at the beginning)
What a great breakdown thanks
@@AwesomeUSMovies I just remembered something - you have seen Harvey Keitel (the FBI agent) before; he was in Pulp Fiction as "The Wolf," the assistant who helps Vincent and Jules get the blood out of the car ("Pretty please with sugar on top, clean the f***ing car.").
Nic Cage is kind of a unique guy, and he's made lots of different movies. I liked the sequel. I heard there might finally be another sequel in the works. The lovely Diane Krueger also played Helen in the epic Troy, and on TV was in The Bridge. Sean Bean has been in lots of movies, also Harvey Keitel in lots of movies. You would probably like Nic Cage's movie Con Air, a very action-y adventure!
The Father is played by Jon Voigt .... Academy Award Winner Jon Voight!
@@jamesalexander5623The dad of Angelina Jolie.
@@3DJapan and jim from mission impossible
"Half of one percent" - if Ben was right and the treasure's value was around ten billion dollars, that means he & Riley both got FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS for their adventure. and somehow Riley is MAD about that...
Yeah he's super rich
This movie surprised me when I saw it for the first time. It was actually respectful of American history. It is a regular re-watch in our home.
I wonder how much finctional history is being created by this.
@@AwesomeUSMovies I suppose that a healthy percentage of Benjamin Franklin's inventions could be faked. He is so prolific that way.
@@AwesomeUSMovies Not as much as you'd think. I am a Mason myself, and while "the treasure" is fictional, a lot of the film's details are not, and the spirit is true: The Founding Fathers were very much into the occult. George Washington, Ben Franklin, Paul Revere -- all Masons. It's a fascinating legacy which does indeed go back to the Knights Templar, and much earlier. This movie is really a cartoon, but its heart is in the right place.
@@MattDeMille and a pure heart is the most important thing for story that lasts across time. So many of the current movies being made have a bitter, vile, and resentful soul to them.
In the 80s, my family took a roadtrip from Houston up the East Coast to check out Niagra Falls (one of Marilyn Monroe's lesser-known movies is set there). Of course, we saw the Statue of Liberty (from way too far away (Splash has a major scene under Lady Liberty)) and the Smithsonian Institution (for ONLY an hour and a half.)
The twist of that trip was that I ran into a classmate in the Smithsonian.
there is a sequel to the movie, National Treasure:Book of Secrects. Which is also a fun movie though didn't do as well as this one. The is also a short lived tv series. There have been talks about a third movie with the hopes of the original cast returning.
I am so Happy you are reacting to this Gem of a Movie, it is so underrated...This and it's sequel are some of my fav Nicolas Cage movies top is Gone in 60 Seconds(also underrated) oh and Face Off ❤
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks, I enjoy your channel so very much. Thanks for sharing your Movie Journey with us.
I like Nick Cage in The Rock with Sean Connery. Sean Bean was in Lord of the Rings, Ronin and Game of Thrones.
Nicholas Cage. Kind of an engima. Won an Oscar for acting. Yet also lead low budget action movies, high budget action movies, strange art films, offbeat comedies. Always worth watching, whether more restrained like this role, or more off the wall crazy, like a lot of things he's done. He was awesome ad Count Dracula in Renfield, released earlier this year. Scary and sarcastically funny.
You might like “Sahara” for another fun “historical” action/adventure.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion.
Treasure hunt movies are always fun! Always love your reactions
Oh... thank you
Love this movie. The sequel is just as fun. I heard they were or are going to do a 3rd film. It definitely deserves one. Just don't waste your time on the Disney plus series. lol
Was sooo excited for the TV show, and sooo disappointed after.
Thanks for letting me know
You should do the second one as well!! These movies are sooooo good!
Sean Bean was also in 'The Martian' - great movie!
I read the book twice. Great book
Sometimes I can separate art from artist, but I struggle with reconciling this Jon Voight with the one I've seen the last several years. Otherwise love this movie.
Boy, me too. A once great actor turned complete traitorous nutjob. Too bad.
this is still 1 of my favorite movies if you loved this movie you should definitely give the sequel a watch
Nicholas Cage, who played the lead in this, is an amazing actor. My recommendation is Moonstruck. He plays opposite Cher. It’s one of my favorite movies. It’s a romantic comedy and I know you’ll absolutely LOVE IT.
Added thanks
@@AwesomeUSMovies I was thinking that, too. Some Nicholas Cage movies are great, some are pitiful. Moonstruck is great, so is Guarding Tess, with Shirley MacLaine. And one of his nicest little movies was It Could Happen to You. But also definitely see the sequel National Treasure movie.
The FBI guy was Harvey Kietel who also played Winston Wolfe in PULP FICTION
Yeah someone said that, I was like oh man I missed one. I did know another one in that film, crap
23:26 the nail that gets exposed is a modern-day nail, perfectly clean, no rust. If it were really 200 years old, it wouldn't look like that! LOL
Agreed
Growing up in Philadelphia I loved visiting the Franklin Institute. It's really fun for the whole family.
Nicolas Cage is a member of the Coppola family, many of whom are in the movie industry. Lord of War (2005) is a great Nicolas Cage film. In it he plays an illegal arms dealer, inspired by the stories of several real-life arms dealers and smugglers. The film was officially endorsed by the human rights group Amnesty International for highlighting the issue of illicit arms trafficking by the international arms industry.
This is actually my favorite movie lol, I’ve been obsessed with it since I was a kid!
Awesome
This is the type of movie that if you’re flipping channels & it’s on you stop there.
Awesome
This movie is in a collection of perhaps a handful of films in which Sean Bean isn't a walking spoiler. :D
My father took me to DC in 1966 when I was eight and we spent two weeks there.
This movie and the sequel are great!
Great to know thanks
The main guy Nicholas Cage, has been in lots of movies. You would probably like his movie Gone in 60 seconds because you like cars. Also there is a National Treasure 2 you should watch. I've been excited for you to watch this all week because I knew you would love the history in this movie.
Added to my list, thanks for the suggestion. Really liked this one so I'll watch the 2nd one forsure
I hope he watches Gone in 60 Seconds, love that one!
I watched this Movie New at a Theater and WOW COOL MOVIE! At the beginning of your Reaction about to watch, COOL REACTIONS MAN! ROCK AND ROLL!
Thanks Jacob
Other titles for the other cast members -
Justin Bartha - Failure to Launch, The Rebound
Sean Bean - GoldenEye, Don't Say a Word, Lord of the Rings trilogy (if you've already seen it, he's Boromir), The Island
Diane Kruger - Inglourious Basterds, Troy (also with Sean Bean), The Infiltrator; she's mostly known for her work in Germany and France, so it's hard to find more titles than that outside of the U.S.
Jon Voight - Deliverance, Mission: Impossible, Coming Home (Oscar win for Best Actor), Ali (Oscar nomination for Supporting Actor), Glory Road
Christopher Plummer - The Sound of Music, Inside Man (with Denzel Washington), Beginners (Oscar win for Best Supporting Actor at age 82!), Up, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
Harvey Keitel - Mean Streets, Reservoir Dogs, The Piano, Bugsy (Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor), Thelma & Louise
OMG ^^^ I have so many movies to watch... :-) We'll,, lets get started on the next one.
Must watch the 2nd movie too!!!
The sequel is fun as well.
The main actor is Nicolas Cage (The Rock, Gone In 60 Seconds, Face/Off); the girl is Diane Kruger (Troy, Inglourious Bastards); Ben's father is Jon Voight (many, many movies); the main "bad guy" is Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings); the FBI guy is Harvey Keitel (Reservoir Dogs).
One of my, and my family's, favorites. It is one of the only movies we can all agree on. ... We've probably watched it six or seven times, at least. The sequel is enjoyable, too, though not as good as this one. The FBI Agent was played by Harvey Keitel who you saw in Pulp Fiction (The Fixer, Winston Wolfe, who was called to help the main characters clean up their little accident). Keep watching movies and you will definitely come across Nicholas Cage and Sean Bean-both have been in loads of movies. For Nicholas Cage I suggest The Rock, Con Air, Face Off, Raising Arizona, and National Treasure: Book of Secrets. For Sean Bean I suggest the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Patriot Games, HBO's Game of Thrones (He's not in every season, but the show is definitely worth watching), The Martian (not a huge role, but he's in it), and the James Bond movie Goldeneye.
The sequel is equally fun. It's always a good time watching movies with you!
Thanks
Jon Voigh who played the Father was in a film which is based on Historical events. "The Odessa File" .... It involves Nazis and has Max Schell as the Bad Guy!
Nic Cage is INFAMOUS. From his oeuvre, I recommend Raising Arizona, The Rock, Con Air, Face/Off, Matchstick Men, The Wicker Man (but only for yuks; it is STUPID), Kick-Ass, The Croods, and The Color Out of Space (but save THAT for a horror period where you can take body horror.)
I tend to enjoy this movie. I also liked how with how vague some clues are, such as the Iron Pen requiring quite a bit of effort to get to the Declaration, it allowed the misdirection with the apparent dead-end path. I loved the size of the treasure, but also recognized that in all those years, with major NYC structures, it would be hard to keep such a large space open and undiscovered. Considering that the church above it is flanked by subway lines to the east and west, and they'd have to avoid having building foundations or other digging from happening in that area for centuries, I tend to have to overlook that by the end to keep it finishing strong. Yet, I also appreciated that these very old pathways downward were weak from existing for so long. The Indiana Jones movies too often had complex mechanical systems that had to remain functioning and capable of operating repeatedly in some cases, even after centuries. So seeing things break was a bit more realistic.
Masons.
Masons tend to have positions of power, positions of strategic placement. Masons created the US. It would make sense that Masons would steer events to keep important things, like the Templar Knights' treasure, hidden. Not by force, but by misdirection and psychology.
Forgot to mention, other Nick Cage movies: Moonstruck, Sorcerers Apprentice, Face Off, Raising Arizona, there are many of them.
before I got into nicolas cage, this was my favorite cage movie.
my middle name is nicolas, because my parents loved raising arizona
Another good Nick Cage is Knowing. Though I have issues with the end, it’s still a good movie.
The bad is Sean Bean, thought you would recognize him as Boromir from LOTR
Always loved Nicholas Cage! 1st time I saw him in a movie named Valley Girl I said he’s gonna be a big star! I haven’t seen valley girl since it came out WAYYY BACK IN A DAY! I’ll have to go back & watch it again from an older perspective. That’s always interesting to do! ☀️✌🏻
I totally forgot how much I liked this movie. You're doing the sequel, too, right? It's just as much fun with more clues and history bits, etc. 😊
For sure
The star, as many have said, is Nicholas Cage.
Some of my favorite Nick Cage films (which I highly recommend to you):
-Peggy Sue Got Married (1986)
-Raising Arizona (1987) (film made by the same people who made "O Brother, Where Art Thou?")
-Moonstruck (1987)
-Guarding Tess (1994)
-Leaving Las Vegas (1995)
-City of Angels (1998)
-The Family Man (2000)
-Windtalkers (2002)
-The Sorcerer's Apprentice (2010)
-The Croods (I & II) (2013 & 2020)
And I'm really looking forward to watching "Renfield".
"National Treasure" is of my favorite Nicholas Cage movies. You have to see his recent film "Renfield" where Cage is absolutely great as a Dracula holed up with his servant Renfield in modern day New Orleans. He seems to excel in dark comedies. It's a good idea to make sure that you've watched the Bela Lugosi version of "Dracula" from 1931 before watching the recent film "Renfield."
U would like the 2nd one too....have a great weekend sir
Thanks, you too!
Other great Nick Cage movies from another era for him are Moonstruck and Raising Arizona.
Can you imagine the value of the library of Alexandria if it had not been destroyed?!
Love this movie, number 2 is good aswell
awesome
This was a fun movie, I love Nic Cage movies. The butcher lady was the hero of the movie. Good catch on the guy from the Hangover, I've seen both so many times and never put it together
It was just the one look he gave. It popped into my head
One of my favorite movies. Love history and anything that intrigues others to learn about history is ok with me.
My concern about this movie is how much of the history is fictional history
Wondering if a bibliophile such as yourself has read *The Da Vinci Code.*
You should watch the movie (starring Tom Hanks who you know) for another treasure hunt with a lot of historical elements to it.
Doesn't sound familiar. I'll see who the author is
One of my fav Nic Cage movies, enjoy part 2 as well. Great reaction James
I really liked this one so I'll have to watch the 2nd one
Nicholas Cage, Jon Voight, Christopher Plummer, Harvey Keitel, Sean Bean, Diane Kruger, and James only recognized Riley from The Hangover. Priceless. The least famous of the entire cast. Priceless. Keep doing your thing James. Love it.
I should have recognized two people. The FBI guy is the Wolf from Pulp Fiction
I love ur reaction throughout this movie. Just more wholesome vibes to enioy an old childhood movie. I recommend any nicholor cage movie (tho a lot are action, sorcerors apprentice is one of the pg movies)
Part 2 is even better with even better conspicuous
Awesome
One of my go to movies ^_^ you should check out the 2nd National Treasure Movie
Will do
Wow what a suprise. National Treasure is one of my favorite movies and it is a great franchise (You should also see the sequel) that made two great movies in a roll which is really hard to do. Sean Bean performance as the bad guy is awesome in this movie and of course all the good gang are awesome as well. You should see other great Nick Cage movies like Snake Eyes, The Rock, Con Air, Face Off, The Sorcerer Apprentice and 8 mm which a great but shocking movie
Great to know thanks
A trivia question as well as a history test here. What is Ben's dad's middle name? Hint: Ben's middle name is Franklin
You watched Nicolas Cage in the Rock I believe. Two of my fav Cage movies (The Rock and National Treasure).
They found, slave did not build the pyramids. The builders actually lived right near them. Also, the pyramids are older than the ancient Egyptians, before the Great Flood. There are water erosion markings .
What??? I'll have to look into that. The Egyptians have actual drawings of them putting it together.
The second one is just as good or better.
Great to know
Love Nicholas Cage. The sequel is great too. Other Cage movies:
Face/Off with John Travolta
The Rock with Sean Connery
Con Air
Gone In 60 Seconds
1% of 10,000,000,000 is 100 million I think 🤷♂️
Yup
Hey James. Thank you for explaining why you only do US movies. Ive been wondering for a long time why you dont react to foreign films with your penchant for reading, but now i know why!! I would still encourage you to seek some of them out on your own because their are a lot of foreign films well worth your time! Keep up the amazing work, i currently watch over 30 reaction channels and you easily make my Top 5 favorites!!!
So happy you're enjoying my content. Thanks
You should definitely check out the 2nd one too!

Next time you visit New York City, go to Trinity church! It’s absolutely gorgeous and a very interesting/informative tour.
Thanks for this
The main bad guy is Boromir in LOTR 😮
Oh man I totally didn't recognize him
7:34 - They didn't let me bring a ladder to sit on his lap - wait, for real? You tried that?
Come on, it would be a great picture
@@AwesomeUSMovies It certainly would.
Have you seen Con Air? It's another Nicolas Cage movie from 1997. No spoilers, but I think you'd enjoy it.
I also just realized...even though I've seen this movie so many times....when Ben tells the lady (forgot er name) that someone is going to steal the Declaration Of Independence. Why didn't he just name him? Be like his name is Ian....(whatever his last name was), then he lets Ian steal it, and the cops know exactly who to go after? lol
Not just that .. how did Ian know the decoration will be across the hall and not down inside the big safe thing? Ian wasn't the one that put the little laser beam on the circuit thingy to make it go across the hall. That was the other guys so to Ian's eyes, it would be in the 4 ft thick safe thing
@@AwesomeUSMovies Decoration? I'm guessing you meant declaration lol. Ian is a smart guy, Riley pulled up public records, he could have done the same. I assume he had his own plan to get it out, we just didn't see that because Ben got to it first.
The second one is really good also
National treasure 2 book of secrets is really good
FYI: 1% of 10,000,000,000 is 100,000,000. ($50M each). Nicolas Cage (Ghost Rider).
Yup my math sucks
Alright James, I'm a film fan who's decided to try to get more into reading. Since you've watched so many of our favorite movies, how about you recommend a book for me, and I'll read it? 😁
Oh man.... Fun. But.. I need to know more about you and what you like. Then I can give a better suggestion. Can you email me or Facebook message me. I don't get notified on replies on CZcams. awesomeusmovies@gmail.com

Love that description.. wiggling shake look at me
Love this movie. Fun watch. And yeah. You did your calculations all wrong. :)
Yup,
The lead in this movie is Nicolas Cage and he is a big deal (Oscar Winner). Movies of his to react to.... "The Rock" "Face/Off" "Gone In 60 Seconds" "Con Air" "Kick Ass" "City Of Angels" .... he started with smaller parts in smaller movies in the 1980s and became a top star in the 1990s until it was found out that his accountant had stole all his money and had not paid any of his taxes for 10 years. He started doing every little movie he could to start paying the tax money back (14 mill) which downgraded him as a star and kept him out of the spotlight. The taxes have finally been paid off and he is starting to work his way back into bigger movies again.
Interesting thanks
The 2nd film is even better IMO
Great to know
They'd be dead....well not necessarily, the explosion had less resistance going up, so most of the force went up, when they were under it. They would definitely be deaf and in rough shape, but dead, ehhh they could live that.
