In a way, I'm envious of your newfound ability to discover this aspect of modern (pop) culture. I didn't know there was ANYONE that DIDN'T know who Brad Pitt is. That kind of blows my mind. That means not only are you discovering actors... you are discovering a whole history of evolving techniques and ways of storytelling through these movies that a lot of us just take for granted.
I've been enjoying this journey so far!

This was nice to see. Something so amazing about watching something for the first time. But to not know much about the actors involved is on a different level.
I always found it very interesting that Marla began to care about Chloe, at least enough to think he would like to know that she died. Marla wishes she didn't care, but she does. And she wanted to save him.
I know Brad Pitt because he was in episode of Friend’s 🤣🤣 you are fantastic sir. You’re like our new bouncing 42yr old baby boy.

What a great time it was for films with the Matrix, Fight Club, Donnie Darko, Dark City, Pi, all hit our circle of friends around that time in 99' and it was truly unforgettable times for gaming and movies : D

I went with 12 monkeys for my first thought with Brad Pitt but Interview with A Vampire is a must see. It's based of a book by the same name written by Anne Rice whom recently passed away. If you need more books to read still her series the Vampire Chronicles is amazing. This is the beginning.

or 12 monkeys, Pitt is best at playing crazy characters and 12 monkeys is overall great movie (with very solid Bruce Willis role also)
No other film like this one. I think it will forever be one of my favorites.
It was CRAZY good
Brad Pitt was married to the actress who played Rachel on Friends, Jennifer Aniston, when he appeared on Friends. Which is why it was so funny that he was a member of the "I hate Rachel Greene" fan club. He was also one of the biggest actors on planet earth in the 90s and 2000s. Some of his best films besides Fight Club include Legends of the Fall, Seven, Ocean's 11, Moneyball, Spy Game, and Inglorious Bastards. Edward Norton has great films too, including Primal Fear, Rounders, Keeping the Faith, American History X, and The Illusionist. Fight Club is one of my favorite movies of all time. So glad you are watching it!!
Edit. The psychological thrillers among the films I just mentioned are Seven, Rounders, Spy Game, and Primal Fear. Also, if you haven't seen The Usual Suspects, then you definitely need to put that at the top of your list.

@@AwesomeUSMovies He is also a producer and director of Mindhunter on Netflix, a fictionalized series about the genesis of the FBI's Behavioral Science Unit. It's an intense and fascinating, well-acted show. Unfortunately they've only made two seasons of it, and are unlikely to make another, but a few well-known criminals appear as characters in it.

@@SirGriefALot I guess if you like the so-bad-its-good sort of movies it might be right up your alley. :) IMHO, it's more just so-bad-its-bad... kind of boring, dumb... but... not as spectacularly atrocious (and thus hilarious) as a movie like The Room or Mortal Kombat: Annihilation or something like that.

It was so good
This film was such a revelation to me. When I watched it the first time, I knew the quotes, but I did not have the context. I went into it blind and I believed that it was going to be about a fight club. Boy was I caught off guard. I love this movie and I think it is so well made. Edward Norton and Brad Pitt have such amazing chemistry with each other. I also like that this film does not try to fit into any particular genre and it does a great job of telling a story and building to a conclusion that you don't really see coming until it happens.

When I was a teenager I made a list of all the movies I'd missed out on because I was too young to watch them. This was one of them. It blew me away. One of the best.

34:08 In the DVD commentary, David Fincher says he asked the stuntman to throw himself down the stairs over 20 times, but then felt bad because the stuntman's first take was the one that ended up in the final edit. :P
This movie shocked the hell outta me… and I had already been spoiled on the ending.
It's sooo good
My senior year a few friends of mine started a fight club, it was weird, in a normal fight you’re defending yourself or some people are assaulting someone with illegal intent etc , people hate each other , all that but we were all friends so nothing that could cause serious injury like kicking heads, stomping , gouging eyes was allowed or even thought of, no hitting in the balls , no sweeping knees etc, it was essentially boxing and jiu-jitsu but with no gloves or pads and we steered clear of things that would cause damage. Now I know a single punch to the head does do damage to the Brain in increments but we just fought for who t e hell knows why. Weirdest part is jsut like this , when it was over you could call it at any time yourself and your opponent helps you up, usually hugged ya and you both end up talking about the fight laughing or cursing but you were friends. We all became better fighters over time and while we’d steer clear of dangerously damaging stuff, parents got involved when the black eyes , bruising of the face got excessive , then words of the Police being called by a parent broke it all up but our small group had 32 kids by the time it was done. We heard this happened all over after this movie came out so I’m sure we were jsut 1 of manyyyyyyy clubs. Looking back it was so damn stupid! As a golden give boxer since little I shoulda known better but we all do a ti pod things as kids. I think anyway?
good story
watching this reaction after watching 3 separate female reactions back-to-back really gives a good look into the different view and psyche's of men and women.
you enjoyed yourself, they were either horrified or disgusted. (oh and while I'm at it, you were silent during the testicular cancer section while they all universally laughed)
this is a movie for men and it talks directly to us.
The technical term is actually Multiple Personality Dissociative Disorder. Disassociation is projecting your own consciousness into an alternate personality, or the projection of someone else, typically because of trying to escape some major trauma.

definitely watch this movie again on your own time. theres so many small moments that are hidden that you only notice once you already know the twist.
A lot of people are suggesting the same movies. Let me change it up and request Signs (2002). Its one of my favorites, and it does have a bit of a twist/psychological element to it. Plus its a farm family in the middle of nowhere, its perfect for you
when my mother and I watched this film in theaters for the first time... the first thing we did upon finishing it was look at each other and say "want to go see it again?" We were in the next showing...
only other time we've done that I think was when we saw Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Ed Norton is one of my favorite actors by far. I liked him in Hulk. Loved him in this. But he's also really really good in... American History X, Primal Fear, The Score, Birdman, the Grand Budapest Hotel, and Keeping the Faith. Among other things.
Brad Pitt - it's hilarious you only know him from Friends. He became one of the biggest stars in Hollywood after his breakout roles in Thelma & Louise, 7 Years in Tibet, and a River Runs Through It. Became famous as a pretty boy but then really proved he had serious acting chops, too, in 12 Monkeys for which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Other good roles of his include Se7en, Fury, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Fury, The Big Short, 12 Years a Slave, Moneyball, Troy, Inglorious Basterds, Snatch, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Ocean's 11, and Interview with the Vampire. All great movies.
Helena Bonham Carter I think I might have first seen in this movie... but, yeah, most people know her from Harry Potter. She married Tim Burton once and acted in some of his movies including Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

The director of this film David Fincher is also really good... he also directed The Social Network, Gone Girl, Se7en (also with Brad Pitt), Zodiac, Panic Room, The Game (which I know you reacted to before), and the US remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. All great movies. A lot of them are psychological suspense type movies, too, which seems to be his specialty. Maybe you ought to check out more of his stuff.
The author of the novel Fight Club is a guy named Chuck Palahniuk. Interesting guy who writes interesting book. The only other film adaptation of one of his works that I know of is 2008's Choke... which is okay but not as good as Fight Club. Similarly weird, though.

Multiple Personality Disorder was the proper name. In 1994, it was changed to Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID).

*Primal Fear* was Edward Norton's first movie, and a must see.

There are only three films that I consider as my favorite -- not because of the plot or character development, etc. -- but because of the underlying philosophical truths that these movies espouse. The three films are: (1) Fight Club -- "you are not special" and "do not let your possessions end up possessing you", (2) Dead Poet's Society -- "seize the day" and "constantly see things in a different light", and (3) Shawshank Redemption -- "hope is the best of things" and "get busy dying or get busy living." Though in this case, the plot is really really good.
Don't know if you noticed but at the car accident Edward Norton gets pull out of the driver side of the car and Brad Pitt gets out the passenger side.

I didn't know what to think of this film when I first watched it. I was confused until it sunk in. You were asking the right questions at one point, & I knew you caught the twist. Also, you mentioned reading the Lincoln Lawyer, there is a Lincoln Lawyer film starring Matthew McConnahey.
David Fincher is one of my fave directors (he also did The Game). All his films are great but the main standouts for me are this, Se7en, Zodiac, The Social Network & Gone Girl

Saw this at release in cinema.a was at uni and took a break between classes on a wild stormy day. Was only person in the screen. Had all to myself. Barely made it out the town after it as all was flooded. Great film. Definately check out Dark City

I think you should add American Psycho to your list. It's a great companion piece for Fight Club, another psychological thriller peppered with absurdly humorous (or humorously absurd) scenes. It presents its own critique of unchecked consumerism and thrill-seeking, but it's different enough that you won't get bored. Great soundtrack and very quotable dialogue.
For something slower and more serious, Hitchcock's Vertigo is great. It's also a very beautiful film. Fight Club has a decayed beauty, Mona Lisa falling apart under fluorescent lights, but Vertigo has a kind of beauty you can appreciate as beauty. Hitch's Rear Window is another great thriller. That one isn't slow and serious, it's lively and fun. And that's a really neat trick, since the star is confined to a wheelchair in single room.

I saw this movie when I was a kid because my older brother had it, but when I watched it, I was so confused 😂 But then I watched it again years later and loved it. The twist is great!

Memento is indeed a great one. It’s also a thriller that revolves around the workings of the human psyche.
It’s one of three movies I wish I had never seen, only so I could enjoy watching it for the 1st time all over again (the other movies being “The Usual Suspects” and “Fight Club”)

Unless I missed it, Drive (2011) should be added to your list. Helena Bonham Carter is in many of famous director Tim Burton's movies. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston (Rachel from Friends) were married for a long time.

Such an interesting movie that throws up a lot of great philosophical questions.
The Prestige comes to mind, as well as Silence of the Lambs, and Amadeus, very different movies, but they deal with a lot of psychological weirdness.

Love this movie. When I was a young, dumb kid we started a Fight Club after this movie came out. I agree with your rule addition of no testicular hits; I wound up in the hospital with internal bleeding. We made great friends and bonded but it was so stupid.

If you only know Brad Pitt from Friends and now Fight Club then it's time for you to watch 12 Monkeys (1995) Sci-Fi thriller. From one Iowan to another :) This is one of my top 10 favorites.

Dissociative Personality Disorder, what used to be called multiple personalities, is related to other depersonalization and derealization disorders, not to schizophrenia as most people think. The best modern example is the comedian Jonathan Winters who turned the disorder into a skill for his comedy routines. Unfortunately encouraging the disorder frequently left him with one of his personas taking over, or him forgetting who he was entirely. He was in and out of hospitals most of his career, until he gave up acting and comedy. He went on to become an incredibly accomplished, influential, and renowned painter. He will likely be remembered far longer for those contributions to society rather than his popular fame in mass media.
But yeah, he had multiple personality disorder, as an example you can look up and watch in his routines and interviews.

Personally, I think it is the best movie ever made. Be it the plot, music cast or clips. The psychology, thrilling emotions, and how it is all presented.
Ahhh, the only other movie that my dad hesitated letting me watch at release. He took me when I was 13 (don't necessarily recommend) just a few months after release, and it was still in theaters, though. Despite the fact that Rosie ruined the ending for those of us who didn't see it the first weekend, it was still such and interesting and great movie!

Shutter Island, Cube, Split (Unbreakable, & Glass) are a few similar to Fight club
You should see Edward Norton's debut film, Primal Fear (1996). Great psychological thrillers/dramas (in addition to Primal Fear) would be Momento (2000), A Beautiful Mind (2001), Shutter Island (2010). You should also watch some more M. Night Shyamalan films, probably in this order: Unbreakable (2000), Signs (2002), & Split (2016). Some may disagree with me, but I also like Lady in the Water (2006) and The Village (2004). There is another VERY WEIRD movie I would recommend-Being John Malkovich (1999)-but you need to first be familliar with the actor, John Malkovich. For that I would suggest the following three films: In the Line of Fire (1993), Red (2010), and Of Mice and Men (1992) (though this one maybe not for your channel, just on your own). (If you wish to watch a third one on your channel, you could watch Burn After Reading (2008) or Man in the Iron Mask (1998).

I read this book before I saw the movie. There’s a good few books by the author. Chuck Palahnuik. Another one of his books was made into a movie called ‘Choke’. You’ll recognise the actor in it from Green Mile

btw James I'm curious how you keep track of all these recommendations. I know you get a bunch. Is it like... every time someone in the comments section mentions a movie, you add it to a list, and then if someone else mentions the same movie, you put a mark next to it like votes? Or is it just a mental list you have running and if you see the same thing recommended a bunch of times you add it to a Patreon poll? Or do you really intend to watch every single movie everyone recommends? Like I just listed 40 or so in my last comment I don't know if you'll actually get around to watching all of them. Though all of them are very much worth watching, IMO.
Is it helpful if people highlight one or two movies when they comment?
