Batman Forever is a 1995 American superhero film directed by Joel Schumacher and produced by Tim Burton, based on the DC Comics character Batman. It is the third installment of the initial Batman film series, with Val Kilmer replacing Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne / Batman.

"Oh no you di-idn't"
Well, I gotta give the movie this.
Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones are both better Jokers than Jared Leto.
POLE7645 Would it be pushing it to also include Eisenberg?
Now I'm imagining Jim Carrey casting as Joker
Mona Teasley The funny thing is I could actually see that.
POLE7645 yeah
Alright, grab your pitchforks folks. I actually didn't think Jared Leto was that bad as the Joker.
I remember when this movie came out, many people, including myself, didn't even primarily watch because it was a Batman Movie, but simply because Jim Carrey was in it. The man simply owned and defined the 90s.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. After I saw Ace Ventura: Pet Detective when it came out I was totally hooked on Jim Carrey
Yeah
The man ruins everything he touches. he is a plague
Same here. We should start a club. Hahaha
I didn't get to watch a lot of 90's Carrey outside of the Mask, and only discovered all the classics in the last few years, but I do have a semi-annual Carrey bingefest from the 90's through the 2000's.
Technically, Riddler DID make his name up. His real name is Edward Nashton, but he changed it to Nigma to better suit his alter ego
That is actually comic book accurate
That’s a relatively new thing, though. Edward Nashton didn’t become his name until 2013.
@@liamcullinsit was featured even in Arkham Asylum from 2009 dude
I just realized the "Some days, you just can't get rid of a bomb" joke could be inserted into almost any Batman movie, and work.
@Brandon Brooks
There's also the moment in Batman Returns when the Big Strongman had a bomb planted on his stomach and Batman knocks him down a hole where he explodes.
And Batmobile drops bomb in Axis Chemicals in "Batman" '89. ;)
@@SerpentorTheEmperor or when he carries the nuke out of gotham in dark knight rises.
Or when the Riddler sends the dude with the bomb collar to the funeral in The Batman.
No, the good question are you f#cking high? 26:01
Tommy Lee Jones could've actually made a good two face if he wasn't written so cartoonish and the tone was darker
True.
@@nel-sunstudio330 I think it was because he looked at the script for this movie and said "Oh f**k no I ain't doing this bullsh*t". Honestly I'm surprised Tommy Lee Jones wanted to do it.
Honestly if you look at the first scene, his introduction, for the first couple of seconds he plays a really good two face, if he played the entire role like that it would’ve been really good
I honestly think that he would've a been good a joker
Most of the time, I'm thinking he disliked Jim Carrey so much, he was trying to out-crazy him. That's VERY hard for even skilled actors like Tommy Lee Jones to do.
The idea of Batman sitting quietly in court in full costume is just hilarious!
I guess so
That's how it was in the first, original, Two Face story. Back when he was Harvey Kent. Batman took the witness stand.
@@rsine100 Harvey Kent?
@@Cartman254 Yeah. That was his original name when the character made his first appearance back in the 40’s.
Your honor as justice I must say we find the defendent guilty
RIP Joel Schumacher. Say what you will about his Batman movies, he was still a great director of other movies and a great person overall.
Yeah he was still a great and lighthearted man may he rest in peace
Wait, Joel Schumacher passed away?
You definitely can’t say that they weren’t entertaining with their goofy ness
He did at least apologize for these movies.
He was a nice guy
The nipples were a nice touch
The worst part of this movie was Tommy Lee Jones trying to out-Jim Carrey Jim Carrey himself.
I totally agree! Tommy Lee was DREADFUL! I think he's worst than Schwarzenegger in my opinion.
With Schwarzy it was more a miscast problem: if you hire Schwarzy you get...well...Schwarzy, but if you hire Tommy Lee Jones you can get something better than this trash! I don't know what he was thinking!
You know how some good actors go on a "don't give a crap mode" because they know the movie is gonna be garbage...BUT, when the WORST part of that garbage it's YOU, yeeeah, you must rethink about it.
Maybe he was drunk the entire time, I don't know.
Seeing how Tommy Lee Jones usually plays straight and serious, maybe he saw this as a chance to go freaking insane for a change.
Ilyas Basuki A shame really. I think he could've made a great Two Face
There are some anedoctes told by Carrey on how much TLJ hated him on the set and outside.
It's because his son convinced him to take the part, he didn't know much about Batman.
"I shall be the Green Lightbulb." He briefly considered Green Lantern, but no one wants to see that.
David Witheridge fuck, that burn
Gonna need a blue lantern for that burn.
Wrong Franchise, that's Marvel's mistake, this is DC!
SpiritKitten DanicaLoy - Ummmm . . . You DO know that The Green Lantern is a DC character right? I mean, he’s one of the original members of The Justice League. I don’t think that Marvel even has a Green Lantern equivalent.

31:02 I'm surprised Critic and the Geek didn't say "The Riddler had Batman choose between the horny woman or his whiny Dick, only to save both because you can't keep one without the other."
Jesus, I'd forgotten (read: repressed memory) how thirsty Dr. Meridian was for that Bat D. For fuck's sake _Harley_ is a more professional psychiatrist- pre and post-Joker!
minutemuse that's bad when you bring in Harley into the mix
As an 8 yo when I first saw it, I didn’t read it as thirst, but I did find it oddly hot
What if she turned out to be Harley?
minutemuse Tell me about it.
Paige Lively *shivers!!* That would be scary.
You know what would have made more sense? If next movie it was revealed Nicole Kidman was actually Harley Quinn. It would have explained her obsession with Batman, the promiscuity, and the fact she's a shit psichiatrist really.
travelkingable interesting twist. Trying to get back at him for the Joker? But the animated show just came out and I don't think they wanted that yet. However if Batman and Robin was successful then we would of had Batman Triumphant which they planned having Harley played by Madonna and she was the Joker's daughter...and Batgirl and Robin die due to the poison in the water. The poison or chemical in water idea was used for Batman Begins.
I love it. Headcanoned so hard.
+TalonSky Agreed.

Batman Forever, the movie where the Joker was canonically dead so they had to turn the rest of the villains into Joker copycats.
No this was before joker mania. After heath ledger the Joker became the center of the badguy universe and just this godlike character. These were just 60s style batman villains
Misha Leontiev dude this is silver age batman comics on the screen every villian was 7 types of apeshit.
Watch the Adam West Batman. Joker, Riddler, Penguin, they all were campy, energetic and over the top.
Yeah, this is why I don't mind the Schumacher Batflicks as much as most people. I'm fine accepting them as simply being in the tradition of the 60s Batman. Batman tends to veer wildly between ultra-dark and ultra-silly, so whatev. A couple silly movies got made, and they can be fun on that level. It's not like their existence cancels out 1989 Batman or the Nolan trilogy or anything. Both Batmans can coexist.
Brandon G Except they lacked the charm that made the 60s villains fun.
For all the problems this movie has, the neon green cyberpunk aesthetic of the visuals is really something to behold.
R.I.P. Joel Schumacher
It’s not Batman, but it still looks cool.
Or shall we say it has Decopunk aesthetics
This movie was alright perfectly fine enjoyable movie has a messy script but it was fun from nearly start to finish if not compared to the darker Batman movies by itself the movie is a decent film.

@@Cartman254 Not very good. He’s sounds like someone trying to be intimidating, while actors like Keaton and Conroy naturally come off as such. Batman is a lot more scarier when he’s sounds calm, giving off the vibe to his antagonists that he is in control of the situation and that they’re about to get an a** kicking that they can’t do nothing about.
To put it this way: Bale’s voice is someone attempting to imitate a demon, while Conroy and Keaton’s are the voices of demons.

Connor Caldwell I love Jim Carrey, but what I actually hate about the three films that followed Tim Burton's original (okay, maybe not true for Batman Returns) was the fact that every villain acted like the Joker! There was no distinction whatsoever between their personalities. Well, that and the stupid puns, the ridiculous plot holes, the major deviations from the source material (Batgirl was Jim Gordon's daughter, not Alfred's niece for fuck sake! Still not letting that one go)............
Jim Carrey says that during rehearsal takes for every movie he's ever been in. He even said it on In Living Color
Reasons I still love Jim Carrey's acting.
they have different personalities, just very similar behaviour and expressivness.
The tragic thing here is that Tommy Lee Jones could have actually done a riveting performance of Two Face if they based it more on Batman TAS instead of Looney Tunes. Instead, Two Face is Joker Lite in this movie. What a disappointment.
*for the animated series, The batman released in 2004. For the death of robins parents it was not two face, sadly we don't see him in the series. but however it was more of a "Staged" accident when really it was sabotaged by some guy with 2 others who undone the screws during their performance.*

Considering Tommy Lee Jones hated Jim Carrey during production of this film, I think he was basically trying too hard to overshadow his performance as The Riddler. The Riddler's plot of stealing information and Batman's revelation being Batman and Bruce Wayne because he chooses to be and not because he has to be, are two elements that are really unique to the film. But two good elements are not enough to save the film.
Phantom9252 The plot element is interesting if it really focused on that as being the main conflict for Batman/Bruce Wayne. That was a huge problem with B: Forever and BatmanvSuperman.
They both kept introducing interesting story ideas or elements but never built on them.
Honestly this could be the plot to a Riddler centered Batman movie. Just use the Riddler's plot don't use Jim Carrie, take out Twoface. The whole plot is Riddler getting parts for his computer to hack everyone's information leaving Riddles for Batman. It could be a mystery detective movie showing off more of Batman's detective skills. similar to what they did in Sherlock Holmes with RDJ. But with them giving use a fight scene like from BvS (warehouse scene) and a scene where he takes out like 12 people similarly to the Arkham games showing off his ninja skills. Not enough movies show off his stealth skills. have Batman hack a security system to sneak into a building and Riddler hack the same system turning it back on to trap batman. There are a lot of ways they could make a great Batman movie, But the studio would probably screw it up.
IDK....Nicole Kidman at her hottest point it´s enough to me.
This film really did have all the right ingredients for a great Batman film but the wrong recipe. A film where Bruce is faced with whether Bruce or Batman defines him and whether or not he wants to be Batman forever, where he takes in Dick Grayson and tries to keep him from ending up as he did, and where the villains are Two-Face and The Riddler: perfect villains for challenging Batman's conflicted identity; that could've been a great Batman film.

Still crazy that Pattinson is gonna go from being Edward Cullen a sparkly vampire to Batman a giant flying rodent in rubber lol. Though they both resemble gothic stuff such as Halloween
Cardinal Kid87 I think he would make a better Batman beyond then the original batman
To be fair he's become a decent actor after his Twilight days, so why not
Ace The Skylord Agreed, as long as there’s a good script and director I think he could be great, regardless if the next Batman movie sucks I doubt it’ll be because of him, just like BvS wasn’t bad because of Affleck
@@logandh2 Matt Reeves, the director of the last 2 Planet of The Apes movies will be directing so I'm confident
R.I.P Joel Schumacher , your legacy will definitely live on forever.
Kids: TRICK OR TREAT! Alfred: Release the hounds!

Wabbit Season
I mean, is more of a blender but yeah, is more cone than box
The only thing I didn't like about this review, was the fart noise, every time Jim Carry makes an obscure appearance.
Is it just me or does Two Face and the Riddler have so much chemistry their split personalities should be a couple? I find it hard to believe Tommy Lee Jones didn't like working with Jim Carey considering how well they play off each other through out this entire film.
decusq That shows you how good of an actor he is.
No, Tommy Lee Jones didn't like Jim Carey.
You'd be surprised by how many actors that had great onscreen chemistry, but hated each other off screen.
@@Crichjo32 you are absolutely right remember Blade Trinity with Wesley Snipes he absolutely despise Ryan Reynolds
@@gregbethscheider5912 didn't know that. I think Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd hated each other on Ghostbusters also.
RIP Joel Schumacher. You may not have been the best Batman director, but you really were a decent guy.
5:28 Batman: What do you want Big Smoke.
Big Smoke: ... "I'll have two number 9s, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45s, one with cheese, and a large soda.

Anyone else notice that riddler did his hair and wore the same suit as Bruce? Lol he’s basically cloned himself to be like Bruce Wayne so I guess his character at this point still idolizes Bruce and wants to be just like him
There's actually a book about the psychology of Batman that touches on how Nygma is portrayed in this movie, namely his obsession with Bruce. They actually bring how much he's copying Bruce's look, including Bruce's mole.
Yh Same here. He even copies Wayne when he puts on the reading glasses.
For some reason, that just makes me wish Hugh Jackman played Bruce Wayne
@@randomationhlt oh that would be surprisingly amazing.
The red lobster is bill. It all adds up.
Z .z no way, Bill's comic spinoff said he vowed to kill no man after the war
Mhm
moonymonster But did the war ever end for him? Did it?!
Z .z Have we ever seen Bill and Red Lobster at the same time? I rest my case.
31:30 Bowser’s shapeshifting gone wrong in the Super Mario Bros. Movie
Jim: "Ah you saw my director's cut?"
Me: Was Jim improvising or was that a real thing?
I loved this movie as a kid, why does everyone shit all over it? (watches review) Holy shit, was it always this bad?
CoolTrainer: VaultBoy-39 Yes it always was this bad, but I loved it as a kid too. I was too young for the Tim Burton films at the time so this was the first live-action Batman I saw after Adam West re-runs. In that context, Batman Forever can almost be amazing.
I was a middle schooler when this came out, and I thought it was better than the Burton ones. Then I rewatched it in college and egg like, how did I like this shit?
This describes the entirety of nostalgia culture.
yeah, it was but we didn't know better back then.
Somehow, the existence of Batman and Robin made it worse. It was like a magnifying glass that retroactively made us look back and find the rat feces in this film. In 1995, I was a dumb kid who loved it. Plus that Seal song!
Fun fact: Apparently, the Riddler’s name was originally Edward Nashton, but he changed his last name to make the pun work.
Samuel Johnson interesting.
So what your saying is he DID make it up.
ShadowJedi Basically.
That's a retcon. Originally in the comics his real name was Edward Nigma.
You can't follow up the words "Fun Fact" with 'apparently'
This was the first Batman film I saw aged 6 and still have the vhs. Thank you for the memory Joel. RIP
Same with me! Parents got me it for my birthday at Best Buy or Fye in the Palisades Center along with Batman & Robin. Loved going to those two stores growing up and picking out DC movies, anime, or Cartoon Network shows.
11:52 me when I see my dog, Fred
'Whats the R stand for' Someone in the cinema I seen this in shouted 'ridiculous' fooking quality . Best part of the film , place cracked up
"Release the hounds"
I laughed so hard

Speaking of bad taste, what's up with your profile?
@@manfredgesink8514 Fallout 2 is bad taste?... ooooooooooook.
Just like Rick has has such a one sauce, I'm mad at McDonald's for getting rid of the Arctic orange Milkshake, the peppermint milkshake that came every Christmas, and the raspberry milkshake.
My friend Martha wants the green apple sauce McDonald's released for A Bug's Life back. I'm pretty sure I tasted it, but I was also 2 years old.
