The Beretta PMXs is related to the Tec 9 of 80's lore, and possibly the older Beretta M12s. Whatever the lineage, it's a well made 9mm pistol that's lots of fun to shoot!

PSA has these for $999 plus a $150 rebate from beretta. Sweet little pcc and the tiger stripe is a vibe.
Just got mine. Too good a deal to pass up. I wasn’t sure how I’d like the tiger stripe but it looks good in person, and I got the A3 aluminum “brace” in the mail today.
Thats a fantastic deal .. thank you
@@jasonkolba5482I got the same setup a few months ago I love it
I had one of those and loved it. Never had a misfire or jam . I got into a financial bind and sold it years ago and I'm still kicking myself. I had a lot of fun with that.
Thanks! Excellent information and review. I appreciate you delving into the history.
I love that its kind of like a little baby ARX-100. I love my ARX and am so happy I was lucky enough to find one that was never fired at my LGS as when they came out I was too poor to afford one. I remember seeing your videos about the ARX in my first apartment; watching youtube on the couch eating my broke-college-kid dinner.
The price has come down a LOT…. There is one website in particular selling them for $941 with free shipping and right now Beretta is offering a $150 rebate ! Great deal for this firearm.
Wow, A blast from the past. I had a couple AP-9s made by A.A. Arms.
Had a tec9, barely got 3 or 4 rounds before having a failure to eject. Still loved the pos.
Good info, really enjoyed, thanks
Got mine last week. Stock should be in soon.
I'm never gonna be able to retire if you keep showing me such cool new stuff to buy!😂
The plus side of beretta getting the pmx is now we don't have to pay the B&T egregious pricing.
Masterpiece arms Defender review 👍
The history of the gun that you shared was interesting and informative. There is or was a popular Rapper in the 90’s who used the handle Tech-9.
Looking forward to the Scorpion, Rattler, Stribog and others, pcc comparisons.
hes still around stil making music, still touring, and popular as ever.
The more exact history was never brought up. It started out as an independent proposal for a more compact weapon to replace the kpist m/45B in Swedish military service.
Failing to bag any military contracts and unable to sell automatic weapons in Europe, the designer emigrated from Sweden to Florida(?) to tap in to the much larger gun market in the USA.
Pretty info on this one. I'm sure most pmx owners didn't realize they just had a polished tec-9
Would like to see it with a large volume suppressor. That Tiger Stripe camo paint is awesome. Well done Beretta.
Hi from Italy. I happen to know a few guys in the Carabinieri (military police similar to French Gendarmerie), and they told me that at least the A.P.I. (Immediate Response Unit) is planning to replace the PMX with the MP5 from H&K, mostly due to reliability issues (e.g. in the magazine)... Personally, I'm a big fan of good old PM12, the classic powerhouse SMG from Beretta!
With modern upgrades the MP5K is hard to beat for a PCC. I bet they wished they could have a .300blk ar. almost as small and lighter/better ballistics
Why didnt the fools test it before buying a large order
@@jason200912 I don't know about any such details, I'm just reporting.
Wow HK mp5?? With so many more modern better options, I wonder why they are going backward. Who is their procurement officer a cold war enthusiast?
@@justanotherinternetexpert7743 prob some boomer that only wants reliable but doesn't want to buy ammo to test guns so they just pick whatever other police use

Those knuckleheads at Columbine used a Tec9. Those two were real jerks if you ask me.

Seems like the CZ scorpion does everything this does for less $ and more aftermarket support.
They’ve also got a history of OBD
@@Normank16true. I believe the newer ones are corrected from the factory and you can send in older ones for a preventative repair.
@@Normank16B&T doesn’t because nobody shoots them
Yeah but the cz in its stock config is meh so this seems like I could leave the stock grip etc on and still shoot it
Also looks like palmetto state armory has the tiger stripe for 999 and Beretta has a $150 rebate through June 30th for it
Damn that Tiger Stripe PMX is sexy AF
I concur with your assessment 👍. Bad ass
No doubt. For a hundred dollars more , why would you get the black version ?
@@nomad753I got the tiger and it’s the only one my local had but I’m glad it was the tiger one

I had a genuine kel tec closed bolt tec 9. Terrible gun but man it was cool. Got an offer I couldnt refuse for it though and I’m glad it’s gone 😅
I think it's very important, given its lineage, does it 80's hipfire??
You should do a review of the modernized versions people are 3D printing.
Very cool Pistol Mac
It would be cool at less than a grand. Bolt hold open giant plus. Just looks fun.
Need to make this into compact carbine with folding stock to relax CX-4 storm
I don't remember the Tec 9 being unreliable but if fired enough the plastic lower would crack between the front of the trigger and mag well.
I remember back when the Tec-9's were $119 all day long. The quality of manufacturing just wasn't there. They ran FMJ Ball ammo great most of the time. They were a certified jam-O-matic with JHP no matter how much lube you gave it. The feed ramp just wasn't designed for it and was really not worth modifying it to work with JHP's. Back then IMI UZI was around $600 New in the box. Honestly for $1,300-$1,500 today your best bet is the CMMG RADIAL DELAYED PCC.
I always wanted the walther smg, it would be cool the they made them for the American market.
I'm surprised the iconic T9 has not made a comeback, maybe PSAs new pistol could replace it if it's cheap enough but this type of forearm even made to shoot reliably could be made for a very low cost and sold at a low cost.
No idea why the US millitary went with a B+T blowback over the Sig.
Honestly when I purchased a 12" barreled Draco years ago for under 500 It was a great investment, the Romanian military use these with undefolding or side folding stocks and they export them as the PM90. The full sized Draco is just a semi only version as in they did not put ona full auto raill and no 3rd pin or auto sear and they just used a semi trigger group.
I put on a surplus slant break, drilled and tapped the rear trunion with some steel pic rail and used loctite
Installed a triangle folding brace that folds to the right but does not get in the way of the action.
Drilled and riveted on a milsurp Romanian AK optic side rail.
Gave it a trigger job (feels about the same as an ALG)
Put on a magnified prism optic with a low mount.
Got some milsurp front handuards and ibletted the wood for M lock so i could put on a small but powerful LED flashlight with red dot, got a nice surplus bake grip and the flashlightt it fast tonturn on but I could put it by the grip.
Use 20 round or 30 round steel mags with a yugi BHO follower, usualy have 2 taped together.
Modifed the safety so it's similar to a Krebs.
I keep it in my car and I feel that with 7.62x39 out of a 12" barrel you dont loose much velocity Vs a 16"
It's pretty handy to get to and can be used with a folded stock. Unfolded with an optic I know it's good for 200m, if the optic fails I have irons.
I put the flashlight on the right side so it's about flush with the folded stock. Usualy have 2 x 30s taped together with the other on the right side so it's also flush.
It's made In a millitary factory for export, chrome lined barrel so I don't have to worry about the damp and such. Have shout thousands of rounds though it and it's surprisingly accurate especially with the optic and trigger job.
I feel it's a kind of do all PDW vehicle "pistol"
I know it's now popular with gangs but they allways get the mini or micro Draco and those are just range toys or bullet hoses.
The zastava USA AK pistol is nicer but more expensive and no reliability difference.
I have noticed a big trend for gangs to use glocks, sometimes P80 kit builds, often with a full auto switch and 30+ round stock mag or drum, many will put a brace of chassis system on it but from the videos I have seen them show off most of the time it just looks like an uncrontrollable bullet hose.
I have also seen them use more AR pistols in 5.56 but most of them are the cheapest kind or they use the cheapest upper and a barrel that's way too short for reliability.
I guess they mostly use what is stolen and maybe modify it.
I feel a US or Turkish company could make a very compact and cheap 9mm teck 9 alternative.
If I was to design one. The most important part is the mag and I would go with the CZ scorpion mags as it's low cost. Available, reliable and double feed.
Polymer lower. The upper can be a tube with some pic rail then a stroker (works more like a hammer as in VZ58) could even use parts like firing pins and extractors allready being made.
If wanted to make it even cheaper as in machine time just set it up for Glock mags.
If you wanted something slightly more fancy and compact then I would go with a telescoping bolt with the maroity of the bolts mass being made of tungsten. Tungsten is cheaper and nearly as heavy as gold so the bolt could be made of steel or have a steel sleeve or steel parts for the parts that have contact with steel (maybe could make it all out of tungsten but would be expensive to machine.
Or just get some bar stock Tungsten and cast a steel sleeve over it. It would reduce the size of the bolt alot. If you mixed that with a fat short telescoping bolt and some good spring pressure and also use square stock instead of a tube as the upper you could have a pretty compact system.
If it's made outside the US and imported as a pistol it would be fine. I'm surprised a company like hi-point does not make them but they don't want any heat so stick to
I had a tec 9... Giant pile of crap. Fun when it would run. Definitely one of the guns ever made
If ever a film needed a part 2 BTLC really is a great candidate .
I love that they take a good idea and make it better! Makes me happy. Although, I know they can do even better, like making another “edition” of this weapon that is roller delayed. Why not have both? ‘Merica! 🤠. Blow back is fine, but roller delayed is even better! Make both and sell both. Different designations for each. I love to see improvements and innovation. It just makes my heart happy! Like, “here, hold my beer” because I can make it better. Watch this! It is just how I think. Always striving to do things better…
They are like $850 after rebate on multiple sites. A month or two back they were closer to $775 after rebate
Tobious Arms (spelling?) just came out with a new modernized tec9. Quad stack mags, in 30 supercarry. 9mm is on its way. Serbu interviewed him a couple of months ago.
Similarities are unreal among all three.
I see at least 3-5 vendors at shows that have this item at pretty decent prices in my area
That folding brace looks like an A3 Tactical . I have one for my Sig p320
It is I have one for my PMXs and they make the best options for the PMX. At the time I purchased mines they were the only ones selling a direct mount brace.
The Tec-9's charging handle looks very much like the Sub-2000's, although more like the "recoilless" one by MCARBO. (Yes, I know George Kellgren designed both.)
I have a DC99, another early production of the Tec 9. The early ones were actually rather well built. The magazines are the big weak point. I inquired about the dimensions for the magazines for the PMX. I was hopping to modify the magazines to fit my DC99, but the dimensions are just not going to work out. What a shame. Oh, and they already have a green version of the PMX. I have not seen it in the US but I have seen it in the field in Europe. Hopefully they sell well enough that we get a large collection of colors in the US.
Nice history lesson do one on the Kimmel or AP 9. i had one years ago and wish i still had it. Kimmel not tech 9.
I kinda want one!
They are nice and pretty accurate. One thing people don't know, is when you load the magazine, you have to tap the magazines on the back side of magazine, "primer side". That and use full copper covered round, fmj, no hollow points. You do that it will never jam. You don't, and it will jam all the time. I used to have one and a Mac 10. Tech never jammed and Mac did a couple times. Wish I still had it. They are hard to find now a days.
That's why TEC-9 was not great for self-defense.
I would assume newer ones don’t have those issues
@@deanwood1338that assumption would be incorrect. These gun's are designed for Military Ball ammo. They're Baller's.
@@celmer6 and police use. I highly doubt that a manufacturer would, in this day and age create a firearm that will only work with ball ammo and expect it to be successful for them.
If you have to tap the back of the mag to seat the rounds then it's a bad design. Not that I don't do that though but sometimes I don't tap it hard enough.
Would be cool to put a vs video with other sub in the price range
Fun fact, if you buy the PMX and Form 1 it for an SBR, you will suddenly realize that if you want to fulfill the engraving requirement, it's almost impossible to do so in a way that literally complies with the (yes, stupid) regulation because the serial number is etched where there is absolutely no space to engrave anything else.
I had one way back in the day.. couldn't hit a tree standing in front of it lol
I have one of those(TEC-9) but the charging handle snapped off.
I remember when Tim wouldn’t even get political. Keep it up Tim.
Tim, would you consider a review of the Tactical Superiority SIA-TAC09-085 Tac-9 9mm? Evidently Tactical Superiority has taken over production from Sol Invictus, as Palmetto State Armory, Bud's Gun Shop, Guns America and others have new production weapons with both 5.5" and 8.5" barrels in stock. Nobody has done a review (none since brief overviews dated 3 years ago), but the weapon seems like a viable alternative to similar weapons priced hundreds to thousands more.
A comparison with the Ruger PC Charger would be interesting, BTW.
Will the Beretta take the BT collapsable wire stock/brace? I'm not big on folders.
Did you tri fitting a trilug to see if accuracy is affected?
My local gunshop sold me at tech 9 with a broken fire and pin. Didn't know it until I took it to the range. What a nightmare trying to find parts for something discontinued in the early nineties... Luckily I found the machine shop in my area. That machine me a new firing pin
I would never shop at that store again
i bought a Tec years back and original owner claimed was an unreliable piece of junk. It worked fine for me, never had a malfunction. Turns out him using the magazine as a foregrip caused it to be unreliable. It can work if you know how to use it. Unfortunately, the frame cracked after many rounds and now it's a hood ornament. RIP
Cool
great video. I'm thinking about getting a colt defender. what's your thoughts on that gun? thanks
From what I see, "Beretta PMX's" frame has more similarities to "Tec-9" frame design. The same go for charging handle and the uppers. Nevertheless of the arguments over the design, I enjoy both of them . . .
That's some "smokey" 9mm ammo!
I'm just here to say that the Tiger Stripe finish made this video.
What brace are you using on this Beretta?
I always thought a pcc in the MP5K size would be an awesome self defense/backpack gun. After reaching a level in the mil and using them I thought much differently. I still think a full power .357sig and 10mm could be great hiking, not sure as a self-defense pcc.
Ar15 pistol would be lighter weight and more power.
@@jason200912 agreed.
Why are straight mags from B&T and Beretta GTG but straight stribog mags aren’t?
Ah yes. The first keltec.
I just picked this up from my FFL today. Palmetto sale. $999 + $150 rebate.
The quality is amazing. Smooth as butter.
Also, some people complain about the right side safety hitting their hand. I call bs to that. It doesn’t touch my hand.
If you place your grip up high enough the safety does poke my hand but with my natural grip it really doesn’t. Not something that would be a deal breaker for me as I already have it anyways😂
At GUNDEALS they have the Beretta PMX for $1049 👍
It would be way more betterer if they offered the complete upper for sale by itself 👌
And what would you put it on for a lower? It doesn't look like it would fit any other one. There are plenty of 9mm AR uppers out there if that is what you want.
I never understood why design a gun with a bolt hold open but no release
I love this design of pistol. Direct blow back, compact design and if you want you can convert it into a rifle with a tax stamp and a stock and have an awesome pcc.
Blow back sucks.

The old Tec9 looks way handier and seems like it would be a better PDW, if it worked.
Looks kinda like a CZ Scorpion cosmetically.

Please make one that accepts 92 mags!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I'd rather have a MP5 of some sort.
I've always wondered something, as an absolute OG in the CZcams gun community, why do you not collaborate more? The recent range days in Texas? Do you not like fun? If I had your reach I'd be more involved with others of the same hobby.
Mac is more about history and moa groups while the big channels are all about blowing up watermelon or random junk
Seems like a Scorpion with a different shape.
I would get it if beretta imported the stocks.
I want every war war 2 sub-machine-gun in a collect my collection
Does it run subs okay
It's definitely neet. But at $1,300 that's a hard NO! There's a lot of AR 9MM options out there at a better price point and Stoner's AR-15 Weapon's System compatible.
10% better and 300% more$!
Thank Biden for everything costing more.
@@blue_water_jim Biden and Bidenflation undeniably suck, but it also sucks when any callout of a product that has a cost ridiculously disproportionate to others _in the same market conditions_ elicits a "muh inflation" response.
In today's (Bidenflation) market, you can get two ARs (many more complex, machined, high alloy and heat-treat-critical parts) and change for the price of a PMXS. You can also get a Hi-Point (today's equivalent of the 80s derp-blowback Tec-9 this is based on) for the exact same price (in plain, non-inflation-adjusted dollars) I paid for an AP-9 (TEC copy) in 1997 - a *sixth* the price of the PMXS.
Wait, so Beretta now makes B&T mags?! Ooo, they might be affordable.
$50 each lmao but they have a huge bumper and are the most reliable B&T mags I’ve used

It's got a threaded barrel!! It must be fully semi-automatic!! AAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!
A Ruger PC Charger is half that price and blows it out of the water.
at that price point seems like a very cool pcc. now if they made it in 10mm id be all over it
Who owns the rights if someone one was to make a new version of the tec 9, im sure it would sell like hotcakes. With a brace it would be a blast with glock mag compatibility you would sell millions.
The rounds from the B&T were pretty gassy. I bet they were reloaded.
I'll never understand why HK doesn't just make a revised MP5 with an integral optic mount and last round bolt hold, feels like the entire market is full of "nearly but not quite" PCCs that dont shoot as good/arent as reliable as the MP5 so everyone ends up going back to it
This things are about a grand & have a $150 rebate.
Still feels a little overpriced considering you have to buy your own brace & adapter to make it worth anything.
A simple blowback 9mm based off an old design.
I like Beretta & I'd possibly buy one, I just don't think the price is right for what you get.
Stribog with tec 9 chassis. Stribog is only 650
Does it take Glock mags?
