Great idea my man. Appreciate the content, keep up the great work!
Good idea putting it on my wish list for after my projects done
It’s definitely a good product to have on our trucks 👍🏼
Always wanted to do this and can the obs og springs awesome video thanks for showing.
I actually ended up bending my hood just like you were saying. I love this idea! Having more room near the fenders is also a great plus, cause the springs were in the way of my on board air compressor so I had to shift it over closer to the engine. This way I could put it back closer to the fender for a better fit.
I absolutely love them I can’t wait to throw them on the single cab as well
Thanks! Just ordered!
Great idea 🤙
Oil them regularly and no issues.
That’s an awesome upgrade. I should get some.
I definitely recommend them 👍🏼👍🏼 the link is in the description of you wanna check them out
I appreciate your work in doing these videos and, until this presentation, I could agree with your assessments of the products you featured. When it comes to these gas struts for the OBS hood I am a hard no. After experiences with these on several other vehicles through the years seeing how they rapidly get weak and fail (worse in colder weather). This, of course, necessitates purchasing replacements. Yes, if the factory spring supports stick the hood may bend if too much pressure is applied to close it. Here, as in most other things, proper maintenance is the key to preventing the problem in the first place. Clean them and properly lubricate them on a regular basis. While some new innovations are worth trying to incorporate into these trucks this is a case where, "not all we call progress is".
I just bought an OBS Ford truck and this channel has been a lifesaver. I've actually searched forever for parts and couldn't find them until I saw you had a video on em. I won't but doing this mod because I prefer the mechanical nature of these and think they will last longer than struts. Anyway, do yourself a favor bro, and get yourself a Milwaukee M12 rivet puller. I have done tens of thousands of rivets and watching you pull those rivets by hand makes me tired, lol. If you're not into Milwaukee stuff you can get a pneumatic one.
My 1996 f 150 will stay as it was made as well, You can lift these hood a Little higher and push the Hood spring back & lock these straight up, Gives you a little extra room to get under the hood
I think it's really cool idea
I’m definitely happy with it!
Hey man. Put a socket over your drill bit next time as a stopper to not drill through too far that gave me anxiety watching LOL
Hay we just got a 1996 f350 5.7L xlt 4wd crew cab long box. We are thinking about moving over to A coilovers suspension. We all so just made some new friends at King shocks so we will be using there shocks. We will need to still be able to tow some of are other toys with this truck. we would love some info on what you are all doing.
You should look into a hidden winch mount for the OBS that fits behind the bumper.
It’s something we wanna try and do just have a few other projects we gotta do first
Orale carnale!
Does anybody have tips to repair the hood without messing with the paint? Mines bent and can confirm this happened exactly how you described, blew up in the wind on my brother. Thanks 👍
Will these work on fiberglass hoods?
How long are the hood struts?
Any thoughts on building a swap kit for OBS f150 for a Dana 44 axle
A Dana 44 out of what? They are really hard to find and expensive I mean I definitely would like to, just not sure if there will be a big demand for it
Do you know if they make them for the 70's Fords?
I didn’t see it on their website but check it out the link is on my description
If you lubricate your stock hood hinges they work amazing. No need for this 🤦♂️ just saying.. I've owned 10+ OBS trucks. What's up?
You would think! But nop I lubricant the hood hinges as well as the doors pretty often just because I hate squeaks. I think what happens is that somehow they over extend and get stuck in the open position, because the times that it has happened to me I gotta beat them back.
8 minutes 48 seconds in is where the install video starts guys
Love your channel brother but I have to disagree respectfully. I prefer the old-school style. As a automotive and diesel tech I have many struts go bad and especially in cold weather I work on a lot of 79 to 97 fords and with lubrication the spring hinges work perfectly. But just my 2 cents
For sure I get what you mean, but they are a wear item that need to be replaced, they aren’t meant to last the life of the truck and those old hinges I lubricant the crap out of them and they would still get stuck so I figured that this would be a cool upgrade 👍🏼
@@blowingdiesel I've never had a hood bend with the old school springs. But maybe I'm biased I prefer the old school stuff
The ones on my single cab are still going strong, but I’m still going to change them I personally like a mixture of old school with some new school touches here and there
@@blowingdiesel till this day i haven't had a hood bend like i said im old school and thats worked for me
@@blowingdiesel im all for new with old school. I've been around the new and old Fords and I give and take love upgrades and go with i feel is best
Loll take off marker from your paint
First
Thank you!!
