    If you make your thread catcher to fit inside, under the pincushion, you could do a three piece set? With a not so thick/deep pincushion, and long quilting pins, I like a card or plastic sheet in the base, so I don't pin myself finding needles in my pin-cushion. I made a pincushion with ×6, 2 1/2" squares, like a cube. I do push the bottom up to make the heads pop out at times. Sometimes the flower heads come off the pins and they go inside too. I might put ceareal box card in the base of the bowl too, it may bend if full, and I don't want to pick them up all the time. Thank-you for the tutorials. P.s. great idea to "bag out" the corners. A short back-stitch will do the top curves. Your rectangle one shoud be good for pens and markers etc. I might make some to keep my cutlery drawer sorted, the old style cupboard has 3 drawers for cutlery, but no dividers for teaspoons or sharp knives. Those would work for coins and keys when your man empties his pockets out.

      Thank you for watching and leaving the great tips. I don’t make a lot of pincushions but I think I’ll take your advice and add a bit of plastic to the bottom. Maybe a piece of Dollar Tree placemat or cutting mat. If there’s a pin anywhere near me I will find a way to get stabbed. 🪡

      @@rsislandcrafts I cut the flat side off a clean milk bottle. Cheaper still. I cut them up for barbie clothes coat hangers too.

    This was fun. I made one along with you. I decided to sew a narrow seam around the bottom seams, too, like the top one. I needed more stability.

    Hi Robin! Thanks for this! I think I need to make one similar to the one your friend sent you - a great way to combine my small clip collection and my pins.

      I really love her version. After things are open and stabilizers are stocked back up I’m running out for the heavy weight stabilizer. I really think that’s the key piece I’m missing. The little bins are wonderful but I love the pincushion version best.

    Love these little trays - great for using up small pieces of fabric, even selvedges :)
    I was thinking; why not sew all 3 layers together around the edges, then cut off the 4 corners - saves jumping from corner to corner. Hope to make some, sometime soon - I have a few of your tutorials to try out :)

    What a cute idea! I think I'd like to try this using the foam interface. I have lots of those 10" blocks, so that's what I'm going to use. Thanks for the tips, too.

      @rsislandcrafts  Před 4 lety +2

      I always come up with ideas as I’m recording a video for you guys. I think the foam would work wonderfully for this type of project. I actually have foam too 🙄

  • @lauraruthruff4741

    I was looking forward to this tutorial. Would you recommend the heavyweight interfacing? That's the only one I'm out of and haven't been to the store yet to check their stock.

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  Před 4 lety +2

      I think It needs something with structure. Some people say you can double up on interfacing but I’ve never tried It so I don’t know how well It works. My thoughts? Try what you have on hand with some average fabric or holiday fabric and see how It turns out. I don’t normally have a variety of interfacing on hand so I couldn’t test different weights out.

      Thank you! Yes, this video was more of a sew with me style video. Made to feel like we’re all crafting together and chatting about what we’re making. I find it’s good for the new sewers to hear the process of some projects and to hear why things worked or didn’t work.
