Thanks so much for this great idea, my sewing room has never been tidier! One thing I have changed is to use some scrap vinyl to make the back and the inner basket. This means that all scraps and cottons just slide in really easily and can be emptied without anything sticking to the sides. It’s so lovely my whole sewing group now have made at least one, sometimes two so each machine/serger has its own! Thanks again!
Love the 'speedy' sewing. Makes quick work of a very informative but simple project with just the highlights. Thank you!
Thank you for the pattern. Great size, too.
By far one of the prettiest and most practical scrap catcher I have seen! I think it is on my to-do list for sure. Thanks.
Wow, thank you!
This pattern came together so well. I'm new to sewing and didn't have any issues. Thank you!
Crafting castle! I love it.
I'm going to make this! Very needed in my sewing room!
They’re so incredibly helpful!
OOH Thank you for posting this!
You bet!
I love this Ali! Must make one soon ❤️
I’m sure it’ll be gorgeous!
You have great taste in fabrics!
@@TheLiterarySewist thank you!
I NEED to make 1 like this because anytime I'm sewing the carpet in the room gets SOOO MESSY😅
Thank you. Love the style of your catcher. I just wondered if the machine ‘walks’ if the catcher is sitting underneath with the machine on top?
Mine does not move at all. The weight keeps it still. You could always use a gripper fabric like something you’d use on slippers if it needs a little added stability.
Where can I post a picture to show you?
The dimensions are flipped. The backing is supposed to be 18×9.5 and the basket is supposed to be 11×14. Just a heads up because the pattern never got corrected.

Great tutorial! Thanks! Would love to know the name of the scissors you used to cut the corner pieces. 🤔 I'm looking for a pair with a precise, sharp tip at the end. Any help is really appreciated 🙂
It looks like Kai scissors. I have them and they cut all the way to the tip. The best!
Sorry for the ridiculously late reply! They are Kai scissors! I have model #7205. amzn.to/3S4zWn1
I must be doing something wrong....Are we sure the basket is the 18x9.5 measurements. and not the 11x14?? I am in the process of making this and using the 18x9.5 as the basket and the 11x14 as the backing and its not working out at all.
I've had the same issue.
Had the same issues here, just had to go cut more fabric it is obviously not the basket pieces that are the 18" long parts bit gutted with that

The basket is the 11 x14 and the backing is the 18 x 9.5 , Not sure why she hasn't gone back and changed it or made corrections on this video or the pattern that there is a link too....lol I wasted alot of interfacing making it the first time...until I went back and made a correct version using the 11 x 14 as the basket measurements and the 18 x 9.5 as the backing...Good Luck
Marietta, I just followed the video and the written pattern too, all to find out what you've stated above. I am just going to make my backing piece longer to accommodate the "18" x 9.5" basket" that I've already created that looks really nice😂
Hi Marietta, Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will take a look at the pattern and get that updated. I’ve been struck with covid so I just saw your comments and emails today. Surprisingly no one has brought this to my attention in all the time since the video posted. 😳 Even my testers seem to have missed it or failed to tell me.

So when sewing the basket exterior as directed. I am assuming you ask make the interior of the basket the same before lining them up. Correct? Pretty much repeating steps 2 through 8 twice?
Yep! Exactly!
@@TheLiterarySewist and does the cardboard go on the basket end of the mat, or the mat side that goes under your machine? Also do you have a suggestion besides cardboard to make the mat waterproof? That way it can be washed
@@kimberlymelendez7667 It goes in at the top part that sits under the machine. You could double interface it and skip the cardboard. Or cut down a thin cutting mat. Like the cheap ones that roll up. I’ve seen them at the dollar store so it would be a cheap solution.
@@TheLiterarySewist thank you so much. I’ll for sure post pictures. So I joined your FB page for the book thing. So you have just a sewing one that I missed?
@@TheLiterarySewist never mind I found the other FB page.
What kind of iron is that plz?
Sorry for the ridiculously delayed response! I use the Cricket Easy Press in this video. amzn.to/3lAKz4G
I think this is great. Can I ask where does the cardboard sit? Is it under the machine or is it the catcher please
Yep! It sits under the machine for stability. You could skip it if you wanted but to me the cardboard helps keep things steady and absorbs vibrations.
I would use a plastic piece so its washable.
A disposable cutting board would work.@@FlutePlayer777
I am trying to make the shallower version and the backing measurements are incorrect. It should be more like 8 x 18 or 19 depending on your serger. At 15 inches that only gives less than 4 inches to go under the serger. Maybe you could revisit the PDF and review the shallower version measurements. I’m not even sure I have the 8 inch measurement correct but I do know 5 x 15 is way too narrow and way too short. I haven’t tried the full size basket and I think I have the updated PDF. Please let me know your thoughts on the backing size for the shallower version. I’m trying to make this for a Christmas gift and now I’m stuck. Thanks for your time and willingness to share.
Hi! I am so sorry for the late reply! I don’t get notifications for older videos for some reason. I’ll take a look at the instructions this week to see what happened. I hope you were able to make it work.
I was able to finish this and my friend was excited to have it. I hope you can get the corrected measurements in your PDF so others can be successful. Thanks for responding. @@TheLiterarySewist
I really like this but you are going to fast for me to understand what steps you are doing can you slow it down
CZcams gives the viewer the option to slow it down. You can also download the written instructions from the link in the description of this video. It should help to have them in front of you too. :-)
