It's best to replace the belt using the method shown in this video BEFORE it breaks. If a belt breaks, then you must clean all debris in and around the variator/clutch pulleys. Sometimes the rollers can fall out of position preventing the variator from opening all the way. As time passes, the width of the belt decreases and the belt does not sit as high up in the pulley, which results in a reduced top end speed. These belts can also dry out over time and crack between the cogs. I put 3 -5 thousand miles on my belt. In over 3 1/2yrs, and thousands of miles. The one from the factory is junk, so I immediately replace it with a kevlar belt
What sz is that belt? I got a 2006 united motors matrix150cc
I need help asap please
The size of belt I got was a 835 × 20 × 30
It seems like it is too wide or the variator wont open up. Can someone help?
@@Zowby Sounds like one of the rollers fell out of position. You either need to carefully manipulate one or more back into the correct position, or remove the variator.
What's the size of that belt in the video
Sensational video. I changed my belt in 5 minutes after having watched it. Nevermind the critics, this method works!!!
Great to hear Adam! Be sure to check out my other GY6 videos as well. Thank you
This is, without a doubt THE BEST approach to replacing the CVT drive belt on most scooters. Quick and easy. Thank You for the tip. Greetings from Ontario, Canada.
You should be paid for the time saving information you give us the public "what a blessing your info has provided"
Thanks for the nice comment. Sadly, my channel is way under-compensated compared to many other YT channels that don't even help others, they upload goof-off videos. Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for posting this. Saved me a lot of hassle with a stranded son's scoot today. Worked just as advertised. It makes perfect sense if you've ever mounted tires. Same principle.
I felt the same way!
Thanks very much for this video. You saved me $220 and hauling my bike to a repair shop. My old belt was literally torn to shreds. Now that I know the easy way to install a belt, I will definitely be doing this. :)
What type of bike do you have?
WOW! This should be required viewing for every scooter owner. Thank you friend.

I was curious, to see if you did anything different....but it's exactly the same way I do it. Works a treat every time. A great help to scooter owners. Very helpful posting

Just did this two days ago... it worked beautifully. Yes, the new belt going on there (a Gates powerlink) was tight as heck and I had to work it for a few minutes, but it went on. I stuck the old belt under seat. I agree with the video... this works perfectly if other parts on your bike are operating correctly. If I am stuck at the side of the road with a blown belt, I am trying this method FIRST!
therdhood what if your belt is still too short to fit around the spraket? Then what?
fantastic video mate love to see those people like yourself not messing with to much chat and getting to the point i will gladly subscribe thanks
You made my life a little easier thanks
Sorry, like I was saying, dude you are the man! Your video on how to change the drive belt on my scooter save me so much time and unnecessary time put into taking everything apart!.
With this tecnique we safe a lot of time. Great video sir! Thank you!
Thanks for watching Pedro! I have a lot of excellent videos on my channel that cover many different subjects, so be sure to check out my extensive video playlists for other videos of interest to you, rate thumbs up, and share my channel with others.
Great tip. I did discover this myself a few years ago but only after removing my variator a few times unnecessarily. Note though, that you have to be careful to keep the variator pulley spread open while the belt is off or the weights can fall out of position and then you'll have to remove the variator to assemble it again properly. This may apply only if you are using the "slider' type weights though. (Actually even the round "roller" type weights don't really roll in operation, they slide, which is why they develop flat spots).
Yes, you should also carry a small bright flashlight and thin metal probe to place the rollers back into position if needed. Thanks for watching Barry! Be sure to check out my GY6 video playlist below and share. czcams.com/play/PLQ6IOhUBblU1bkRJ9MagPsKn_Mekq4ws8.html
Thank you very much for a great tutorial. You could call it Roadside Maintenance. If I was in a situation where I needed to replace a belt on one of those machines. I am glad I watched the video. At the same time I could be driving my car and see someone with this situation and they have a spare. I would know how to do it for them. These sort of tutorials are a great help to everyone. You never know when you might need this valuable information. Once again. Many thanks for sharing.
Whaaaaat is this ha.... FANTASTIC well no need of major tool and i don't know to say... very easy and simple...because there is a saying "do it on the hard way or the easy way"..then do it in the easy and simple way as per the video...The very first time i saw this kind of belt removal...thanks a lot and God Bless.
Thanks for watching! Be sure to rate thumbs up, watch my other videos, and share my channel with others.
Great timesaving idea and it works fine as I changed my drive belt on my Kymco motor scooter 150cc. Thanks for the information on the CZcams clip.
Peter Stevenson You're welcome. Be sure to share my channel with others and rate Thumbs Up.
Thanks!
electronicsNmore thank you man! I haven't done it yet, but I got good insight on what to do with the clutch assembly and tested my strength in my fingers and can do it. Very informative video.... You the real MVP.
You just saved me about 3 days bro.. Thank you. That bolt is no joke!!
You know what else is no joke? Removing that nut and not being able to or not knowing how to put it back correctly. It requires a pretty hefty torque setting (60 Newton Meters) and anything below that on a 150cc crankshaft will lead the variator to slowly push out until it catastrophically fails at speed. The variator will explode, possibly damaging the crankshaft.
Better to leave that nut on AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! That's why i always remove the clutch to get the belt in and out, and never the cvt unless I HAVE to change rollers
This worked on my CFMOTO 250cc Honda Reflex clone BUT I used a gear puller to compress the very strong clutch rather than trying to pull it back with my fingers. Three armed 6" gear pullers are $15 at Walmart. You may be able to get by with a really small one. So simple it was unbelievably easy with the gear puller.
That is awesomeness! Thank you!
You're welcome! Be sure to check out my "GY6 Scooter" video playlist and share. Thank you
Great tip. I shredded a belt on the road and had to push scooter home. I’m going to get a replacement and keep under my seat because that long walk pushing scooter sucked
ME TOO, IT SUCKS PUSHING A SCOOTER A LONG WAY! 🇺🇲✌️👍
Mannnn
Hey me too 😂😂
😂😂😂same
More than more than one way to skin a cat. Gonna do the the full belt replacement and variator service but I’ll carry around the old belt, an 8mm socket and Allen wrench for the kick start bolt. Nicely done 🙏
Just did this with my Linhai side by side. Works! Thanks so much for making this video!!
Thank you sir your Genious, very helpfull in Emergency Situation specially here in the philippines, the special tool is expensive for removing of belt. Actually if i do it infront of other Mechanics they will believe me, they thought im a Genius but secretely i copied it from you dude. Hehehe
You're welcome! Be sure to watch and share my GY6 video playlists below. Thanks!

Nice video. Anyone that's ever changed a belt on a snowmobile knows this is the only way to change one. It's damn cold in the snow and farting around with a broken CV belt is the last thing you want to do!
Thank you!
This is how I've been changing scooter drive belts for years on many different scooters, except I believed you had to take off that front variatior nut! Use to use a Strap Wrench to hold the variator, and use a long handled ratchet to remove the nut until I got an impact.. this is even easier! Subscribed
Thanks for watching Bart! Be sure to watch my "GY6 Scooter" video playlist and share.
Thanks for this info. my belt broke the other day and I had to wait 5 hours for a ride to pick me up in 95 degree heat
Nice video. Thx! X♡
Btw: how do I know what size belt I need? I have a 49cc Ice Bear Retro. Thx! X♡
This method only works on scooters that do not have a gear wheel on the left hand side.
Would this method work on a 2001 Honda Elite S (50cc) ????????????????????? Thanks.. And BTW... I'm a newbie with scooters. But I do know my scoot has about 10k miles and while I don't seem to have any slippage... I think it's overdue for a new belt (and I have a Honda OEM) at hand to do it. Thanks
This detailed vid is greatly appreciated!!
Used this technique on my Yamaha Morphous CP250. Worked great squeezing the clutch together and then installing the belt.
+Tim McHugh
Great to hear Tim! Thanks For Watching
great video
+Kevin Stearns
Thanks Kevin
There was no top speed interference when my belt turned to ash in my scooter lol. bike just stopped running. in the middle of the road. but i was lucky enough to JUST get off the highway and hit a red light lol. guess my bike is kinda nice after all :)
+RogzielTheAntistar
Every 500 miles you need to remove the CVT cover and inspect the belt. Always carry an 8mm & 10mm socket/wrench along with a new belt.
RogzielTheAntistar same thing happened to me. Same scenario.
yeah i was lucky too. same thing happened to me as i was overtaking someone. it just jerked and no more acceleration, engine kept running, bike started right up but rear wheel didn't move. i was able to just coast of to the side of the road, luckily traffic was light.
I got 9000+ km (5.6k miles) on a cheap Taotao 50. It's been 18 months since I bought it, but I felt cheated until I read the comment section. Damn, I was lucky. As hard as I ride?
ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS IDEA ....many thanks to you.
Thank goodness that I decided to watch this video! My factory belt recently busted on me after 6K miles, and now after watching this, I feel that I may need to have my clutch replaced as well because I have noticed a decrease in speed for a while, despite the big bore upgrade.

Thank you very much for posting this video. I am currently having to change my drive belt that just shredded apart on me while I was on the road. This video is very helpful and insightful. Thanks again
This is the easiest way to swap out the belt especially if you are on the road. You just have to remove the foot crank and CV cover bolts.
Thanks For Watching!
You taught me something today. Thank you
Well said, im glad i took the time to see what was involved and save myself time and money..
I just checked out your GY6 playlist and I have to say that I'm impressed and now, I'm also a subscriber! I've been working on my own scooter, a 2014 TaoTao 50cc, and just learning as I go, and now I'm going to start using your videos to show me how to do more. Thanks for all of the work you do!

Great to hear!
One of the best instructional videos i have seen on you tube in 5yrs or so
I have dreaded checking my belt, which is sounding as if it may need a change. I will not wait till i break down, now, and have to push it home; (I will fix it on the side of the road) .Knowing my avoidance of doing things the right way.
Thanks

Thanks a ton for posting your video! This also works on the linhai big horn 400 , only took seconds after watching. Only wish I'd found it before cracking the bones in my hand trying to break the variator nut ! 👍👍

Hello, im new into scooters. I got a freebee and it needs some work. The belt was put in backwards and i attempted to remove the nut with a hammer and a ratchet, although i have an inpact gun. Now im heading downstairs to swap it to the right rotation, thanks a million.👍👍👍

i finally got it on i had to get someone with an impact wrench...I RIDE ONCE AGAIN..THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT
If your belt was that tight, then you had no other option besides removing the variator. At least you're up and running!
Super easy! I love it! Thanks Bro!!
great vid, best way ever to replace the belt. used it after seeing your vid

Ah thanks man life just a bit easyer now
It was very informative and important in the long way.
I haven't tried yet as I'm still waiting for my belt to be shipped but this really makes sense and I'll let you know if I'm successful at this. Not really a pro here but I'll try. Thanks to your video, I'll subscribe. Happy new year!
As long as you bought the correct size belt, and have a strong grip, it should work fine. Thanks for watching!

Dude you're an fffing legend. Much appreciated
This is genius! Thanks
thank you sir a very nice video tut, Thumbs up!!!
Moped belt broke last night had to walk moped home 2hrs52mins. Watching this video so can replace it today.
Be sure to clear away any & all broken belt debris before installing the new belt. Make sure the rollers didn't fall out of position.
@Graham Moore it worked but it ended up stretching the belt and I had to get another one, I learned that have to reset the clutch when replacing belt
@Graham Moore I give myself credit for trying to fix it, but I decided to pay professional to fix it. It’s a cool moped shop, I stopped there today my moped is dripping gas when I turn it off. A dude pulled up and had 5 speakers amp and bass remote on his moped, we got to chopping it up told me where to get them from and he can install it
Thank you for sharing, very informative.

I always take out both to get the belt of thanks for the great tip's
wow man thanks for such a good video, absolutely at the right time i watched this video.
just yesterday the belt of my scooter brocket. now by the help of ur video i will change it with out buying tools.
Make sure all debris has been cleaned up. Use a flashlight and make sure the rollers didn't fall out of position. If they did, you'll need to move them back into position using a small wire/probe before installing the new belt.
I am one of your subscribers for a long time ,, but for some strange reason , I seem to be missing watching this video !!!!
Thanks man, you just saved me 200 bucks. I was about to buy an impact wrench and tried this. Best 7 minutes i spent in awhile.
Be sure to rate thumbs up and share. Thanks!
Way ahead of you.
You still need an impact if you need to work on your variator or clutch easily.
Impact wrench ( electric ) from Harbor Freight is 47 dollars not 200 dollars. Proper hand tool is 67 dollars and is found on E-Bay can be carried with you.

Now thats a facepalm moment if ever there was one..!! I recently bought a dune buggy with the GY6 engine and a broken belt, i wasn't looking forward to making a tool to remove bits and generally struggle. Thanks for this tip, it's certainly a HUGE time saver.
Ideally you'd want to swap out the belt before it breaks, otherwise you may need to pull out all the belt fragments and realign the rollers. Thanks for watching!
@@electronicsNmore Again thanks for the advice. My engine is in a Hammerhead GTS150 Dune Buggy, i bought it as a non runner from a reliable source, it was a non runner because the belt had snapped and wasnt with the buggy. I will certainly pay close attention when fitting the new belt and make sure nothing is amiss.
Ty buddy, u helped sooooo much!
thank you for posting
