- čas přidán 6. 09. 2024
- The recent Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor shows were the first time in Star Wars that Clone Troopers were depicted in live action! The team at FBFX were responsible for the creation of the armor and costume worn on set, and Adam learns from FBFX workshop fabricator Alea Holland (and Imperial Stormtrooper cosplayer!) about how FBFX built the armor using Lucasfilm digital reference and the challenges of making it a practical costume!

Weird most people called her lesbo for the last 10 years!
I love Ace. I watch her since I was 9yo. She reminds me of my childhood
Bringing the clone trooper armor design to life looks really nice and I’ve seen many cosplayers bring ancient Sith Lourdes to life such as Darth Nylas Darth Revan Darth bane in his or ballistic armor, and I think that it would be really cool if the ancient dark Lord of the Sith who served the Sith empire throughout the old republic era, and especially throughout the great galactic war. Darth mar if this dark lord of the Sith. And his iconic armor was brought to life, then that would look really cool in my personal opinion.

I love how we all notice the same things 😂
Ya see, I love seeing you loving seeing Adam loving seeing things.
I mean he can’t see it well if it’s so dark
When the flashlight comes out, you know things just got real.
you can tell shes a fan whenever she says the clones are supposed to be better shots!!!
Conversely, you can tell that Adam Savage is *not.*
@@tonystank3091 yeah he just worked on the prequels nothing much
@@tonystank3091 Don't have to be a fan to appreciate the work. I haven't seen any of the new Disney content or movies, but I will always enjoy seeing people make props happen.
@@tonystank3091This is coming from a Star Wars obsessive. A person doesn't have to consume every single movie, TV show, book, comic, etc to be a fan. A person doesn't need to know every background character, alien race, and fictional gadget name. Stop gatekeeping.
@@AlasdairGR thank you
I’d argue that the clone trooper design is one of the coolest looking outfits in all of cinema. It’s literally so cool and can have so many different versions.
Agreed
I wish I could even like it it’s always looked so plastic to me and no exo Skelton or bullet proof. Like they get hit one time in the arm and they still die?
@@FlasRoose Nobody uses bullets in Star Wars...
@@FlasRoose I think they make the armor from "plasteel", in universe, which is basically plastic looking steel
@@FlasRoose Unfortunately that's just movie tropes. You got the same thing often happening to medieval knights in full plate harness. "Oh no someone slashed a sword across my back! Got me right in the... plate armor! *falls over dead*".
I love how Adam says 'you are a storm trooper COSPLAYER and she answers "Yes I'm a STORMTROOPER".
She probably is a stormtrooper cosplayer, she did say something like the clones were better shots so she does know the difference obviously

i never understand why it takes so long when the fans for any series typically make some of the best content for things they like so much! id be hiring those guys left and right! then maybe EP 10-12 won’t be a bummer too
@@michelangelo5903 If you aren't rich enough to get some worthless degree, companies like Disney will treat you like you don't exist.
@@omnomnomynous yeah that does make sense tbh i personally would just want the fans who make that kind of stuff to be the ones working on it! but of course they wouldn’t do that that would make to much sense
Only cause it saves huge amount of money to not actually produce them lmao, bypasses union jobs etc etc lol
Can’t believe she got to work on an actual on screen piece! She’s come a long way! So cool!
I think they learned really quickly from bringing the 501st chapter out to film the Mandalorian season 1 finale that the fans do quality, camera ready work. You can't be in the 501st unless your armor is at a certain level of screen accuracy.
@@AlasdairGR i know the 501th was hired also for rogue one, but as far as I know Ace is not part of the 501th for some reasons she talks about this in a video.
@@grievoustheboss large organizations have their downsides. My local chapter of the 501st is extremely pretentious and difficult to make inroads as a newcomer. There's a bit of elitism associated with the 501st, and I've seen plenty of independents come up with amazing cosplays that are every bit as good as what the 501st members put together.
@@Cortexian Couldn't agree more. There are some absolute pricks in the legion...... like a lot of them. So many people take being a plastic space man too seriously.
@@AlasdairGR - She's not 501st, and like many others, she's had some negative experiences interacting with them. She talks about it here. czcams.com/video/R3PP7-pnmuA/video.html She has her own Star Wars costuming club she started.
It was so cool to see ‘real’ clone armour in an SW project.
I suspect one of the biggest ‘problems’ converting the design from CG to actual armor was the ankles/ lower thigh area. I always remember seeing clone reference pics in ‘05 that always seemed to have rediculously thin lower legs, assumedly because no one actually tried on a suit of it to go ‘yeah that’s too small’
I didn't notice how the armor looked thin until I saw the live action. Now the CGI just looks plain unnatural with how tight it is.
The sizing can be changed, the worst offender for clones is that hip joint with that big pointing tight armor that sticks out in a very exaggerated way. Especially on phase 1 clones (the ones from episode 2), those things also happen to collide with the belt boxes, to maximize your inconvenience :D
As the video say : they were just digital assets and of course you can clip armor parts fairly easily without it being too visible on screen.
But once you convert those shapes to physical form... that's an entirely different story of course.
It’s is so weird cause I didn’t know Ace was working in the clone trooper outfits. I’ve been watching her for years and the fact that she’s working on something as big as Obi-Wan and standing in front of Adam Savage the man who helped made the props and settings for the prequel Star Wars, really makes me smile.

The irony that Alea got a rift with the 501st cosplayer jerks for not being accurate enough with her costumes, and now she was responsible for recreating the 501st armor for the actual franchise. She played the long game and won.
So happy for her to be able to check off so many things on any Star Wars fan's bucket list, meeting Adam Savage, being involved in the movies, etc etc
Yeah it always pissed me off how the 501st cosplay group rips into people for not having "accurate" costumes. Why do they get to decide what is accurate or not is my question, because I've seen some of their CRLs that look absolute trash.
@@thorn6070 Fanbases are always the worst part of a franchise. And the more some of those people focus their entire life and identity around their position inside a franchise...looking at a certain guy who claims himself the face of A Song of Ice and Fire, the more authoritarian and gatekeeping do they become.
And Star Wars fans nearly drove three of the main characters to suicide because they didn't live up to their expectations.
i remember that lol the irony
@@thorn6070 idk to be honest the higher tier levels on certain costumes is pretty dang accurate to what was used on set but thats the thing they make suits that imitate how they were made but not how they they were ideally meant to appear in the starwars universe like for instance the sandtroopers with packs uneven and almost drooping with black tape holding it together like yes if you want to do that look cool but i would rather have one with a well put together pack like how it was meant to be instead of focusing on the qorks of the production which came to light and visible when we got high def
@@louisGauto Yeah but my point is, people get turned down for having very minor discrepancies in their costumes, but some of them are the actual CRL references that aren't accurate to anything. I saw a CRL post for "Citadel Echo" and it had the ugliest, most inaccurate helmet I've ever seen. 501st really need to pull their heads of their asses and sort their egos out.
More companies need to hire true fans like her
When Adam said clone troopers were bad shots and she corrected him and even when she said her name wasn’t Jango. Made Adam look like a newb
Stormtroopers aren't even bad shots to begin with... people all think of A New Hope, but there's plenty of IP out there now with accurate stormtroopers.
@@nahor88 Yeah they base them off the media where every character has plot armor when they're actually elite forces that you do not wanna see. That being said there was a massive MASSIVE loss of quality when switching from clones to the TK program.
Yeah I'm really getting "I think stormtroopers and clone troopers are the same" vibes from Adam here.
@@nahor88 a majority of Storm Troopers were grunts we’re not talking about special forces here. Empire just mass recruited humans all over the galaxy for the numbers. Clones were designed for war, that was their only purpose. So yeah, they’re going to be pretty bad shots compared to the Clones.

Congrats Ace on being able to do something you love.
Being a massive clone fan since 2002, seeing Clones come to life in live-action is a dream come true! It's so incredible to finally see this on screen! I hope this isn't the last time we see them!
I remember watching her cosplay here on YT back in the day. So glad for her to be able to work with this!
I had no idea Ace Cosplay worked on these, that is the coolest detail ever, now not only have we had cosplayers play stormtroopers in the Mandalorian but now we have cosplayers making the screen used costumes
Thank you Alea for helping bring such an iconic armor to live action! You've made Star Wars history!
I watched her on youtube! She's really good at making costumes! So cool to see that she gets the recognition she deserves 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I wouldn't think she identifies as female. I am surprised
She may not be Jango Fett, but she helped let boys in blue go out on the big screen IRL. Thank you so much for your work! The armor looks fantastic and they were great in Kenobi. Hopefully we’ll see more live action Clones in future Star Wars media.
props to the clone trooper for remaining completely still during these 8 minutes, good soldiers follow orders
Man, if only this much love and passion went into the writing of Kenobi. She did an excellent job
That is how star wars should be produced...by proud fans whose dream is to bring certain props, characters and great stories to life.
I've followed Ace Cosplay for years and it's amazing to see a passion become a fan reality! Great work! 💗
Yeah I was shocked to hear she did that work for lucasfilm!
Yess, I knew it. This armor set was used for the mandalorian season 3,thats why the dark blue and more weathering. People conplained about the light blue and lack of battle damage in the kenobi series, so they listened and improved it
Oh my god I remember her ! She came a long way and now she made a mark in the films wow 😮
I love ace, such a great doctor who reference
the improvements from BOBF to Kenobis/Andors Clones is amazing
especially in such a short amount of time
The "Correction" at 3:50 is wrong. She is correct. She was referring to Storm Troopers. They are Vacuum formed due to the fact they are made from sheets of plastic and not a resin that is cast using vacuum. The second "Correction" was needed. She only flubbed once, not twice.
Love to see passionate people talking about how proud and awesome their work is. Ace really aced it! (I'll see myself out)

Oh my God I remember Alea vividly. She was a huge inspiration for me to get my own Stormtrooper armor ❤
It's amazing to see that Ace is doing this now. She really deserves this job!
No matter what I will always appreciate Obi Wan for having the first live action Clone armor. Was pleasantly shocked seeing the Clone veteran, didn't expect to see full suits. Also love Alea's "I am an Imperial stormtrooper".
When adam was commenting on her facial expression at the end at 7:55 like a proud parent and she responds “I would have too many and I’m not Jango Fett”😂🙏🏻love it, a true Star Wars fan
Took Disney long enough to see to it that REAL Clone Trooper armor was made instead of CGI and it's about time too it's so cool.
So glad that you will no longer see people saying that real Clone Trooper has never been shown in the movies. No more!

My favourite has always been Ace's Zombie Death Trooper cosplay.
"What I remember about the rise of the Empire is... is how quiet it was. During the waning hours of the Clone Wars, the 501st Legion was discreetly transferred back to Coruscant. It was a silent trip. We all knew what was about to happen, what we were about to do. Did we have any doubts? Any private, traitorous thoughts? Perhaps, but no one said a word. Not on the flight to Coruscant, not when Order 66 came down, and not when we marched into the Jedi Temple. Not a word."
I have 4 different Clone Trooper Helmets (Phase I, Phase II, Phase I Cartoon, Republic Commando "Boss") and I love them all dearly. But seeing good Clone Trooper Cosplay and this glorious "real" clone trooper armor always amazes me. Man this is so cool.
Good on Ace! I remember the 501st cosplay group giving her a hard time. The tides have turned methinks
I recall her saying in a video in June 2015 she would never join the 501st because of issues with the UK garrison and started her own club-Imperial Outlanders. Glad to see she resolved the problems and is now "a card carrying member"
No one gave her a hard time. There was a miscommunication and she made a mountain out of a molehill, she is also not a 501st member.
"You don't have to worry about the seams anymore, guys!"
I felt a great disturbance in the Force. As if a million voices all cried out in joy and relief...
I thought I recognized her from somewhere. More than a decade ago I was also interested in a few quirks of stormtrooper Armor. Especially the comm system. Glad to hear she is doing so great!
Seeing this video is truly extraordinary, I discovered Ace Cosplay for the first time on youtube in 2008 while looking for advice on making a stormtrooper costume, and now she has collaborated on an official production, it really makes me happy.
I've always been a fan of the clones and also have the chronicles of prequels book, actually seeing the 3d model of the ILM and the new armor is amazing.
Incredible to see.
I always wondered if they actually made the clone suits for that Order 66 scene in obiwan since it was so short. Glad to see it was!
Really awe inspiring too to see the care they've been made with to ensure they are good to wear for longer periods like convention cosplays.
One can only dream of getting an undersuit like that one with the details and breathable materials.
Ace Cosplay the GOAT,a lot of my stuff has been bought on her reviews alone
As someone who built their first foam clone trooper cosplay. Small details from this was really helpful and my god that looks so cool.
It must have been an honour for Adam to meet Ace Cosplay… a true artist with a talent that meets her passion.
Man would it be a treat to see the making of some of these movie famous costumes. Given the time crunch movies and TV are usually under I doubt that will happen. This is the next best thing. Thank you for sharing. Cheers.
It was SO GOOOD to see our boys in white realised so beautifully and realistically. They looked amazing in the prequels and in the animated series' but this was something special.
I didn’t notice that it was an actual suit in the show. That’s how you know that you did a good job replicating a CG thing IRL or vice versa
They definitely did an amazing job
I didn't notice they were CG in the original star wars in the up close shots where the clones were interacting with the main character (obviously I could tell in the zoomed out battle/army shots) but I was quite young when I originally saw it, now looking at it I can clearly see the CG suits. I think the reason it works so well is because so much of the scenes are CG and basically the only real thing is the actors themselves. If you had everything real and then stuck a CG character in it would be much more obvious that it isn't real.
I used to watch Ace back in the day when I was making my Stormtrooper. Well done her! Living the dream!
I remember watching Ace on youtube building their stormtrooper armor. Great to see them years later doing fantastic work! Also love the detail about seams. It's the part I'm struggling with the most on my stormtrooper armor
She* her(
I was so hyped when these showed up on screen. Was not a prequel fan but the clone wars series is probably one of the best Star Wars thing
One of my favorite recent moments in any of the recent Star Wars shows
To quote Director Krennic: “It’s Beautiful!”
so cool to see Ace Cosplay with Adam Savage! she's come a long way
Hell yeah two of my favourite CZcamsrs and cosplayers
I used to watch Ace Cosplay when I was just getting started! Her tusken raider head video was excellent!
So happy to see Ace! She is such a nice women. I have meet her at Stat Wars Celebration. She is also a fellow member of the 501st Legion with me.
For the republic!
It was honestly really exciting to see the Clone Troopers brought to life the same way the Storm Troopers have always been.
Thanks to all of these close-ups, I can't wait to see the new listings in the 501st CRL for the Kenobi version of the armor!
I think people would prefer to call it Andor clone armor because beside it also being used there and on much greater scale (Andor had 36 clones if you count them and do the math, a proper platoon), Andor is leagues ahead of Kenobi which was riddled with problems and many people don’t like.
@@lembitmoislane. they had far less screen time

I love the look of your workshop too and I find myself focusing on the background quite often during your videos. Please keep up the terrific work.
The way it SHOULD have been in the movies back in the early 2000s. Lucas did such a disservice to the saga by making the clone army completely CG
As a fellow (First Order) Stormtrooper, I remember watching Ace’s TK armor and various Imperial Officer uniform videos. Nice to see her now working with an FX group that’s contracting with LucasFilm.
As a prequel and Clone Wars lover Im shocked that only now I just realized that this is the first live action Clone Trooper armor lol

This looks amazing!!! My only problem is the missing 2 lines on the chest but it is so beautiful 😩
Yeah that’s the hashmark, only animated clone renditions are supposed to be missing it. Realistic movie style it’s supposed to be there.
Been watching Ace for a decade. Glad to see work recognized
This armor is stellar and I'm glad for all the modifications that allow it to now look more natural when fitting real people.
I have one small tinnnnyyy nitpick though bc I had to compare this with the original for a class assignment: this version is missing the two little dashes on the chest plate. Very small not a big deal lol, but i noticed it and now I can't unsee it lol
This is crazy I used to watch her channel back in the 2010s, good to see her going way higher!
ACE MADE THIS?!? Been following them for a long time on CZcams!
Wow that has to be the best looking amour I’ve seen
They must have really color corrected in Obiwan. The blue on the suit doesn't appear as light as it did in the show. That was really throwing off the look for me. I prefer the darker blue look.
Actually the lighter blue is the more accurate, the cgi models of episode 3 were light blue, they only looked dark becouse of the night time environment they were seen. The cgi models themselves, or just look at some posters, it is light blue. Actually battlefront 2017 came out with the inaccurate dark blue. Even battlefront 2005 got the accurate light blue
There’s pictures of the entire group with anakin and it’s still new baby blue so idk where this is from? Must be a specific scene??
@@attilafekete7892 it just seems really off is all. The physical armor in this clip is closer to the darker shade that we see in everything thing else. Clone wars, toys etc. Personally I'm not a fan of the baby blue used in Obi wan.
@@shawnforrester1610 Just as I said, these are live action clones and this is the live action colour, the dark blue is from battlefront 2 and inaccurate figures
Can't believe they got an extremely well disciplined Clone trooper to stand there during the entire take.
Personally I think there's something a bit off about the clone trooper armor, but I assume that comes down mostly to them starting out as completely CGI creations, of course they're not going to look right when you go back to real props. Seemed like a real miss, to me, to not just make actual armors for the films, it wouldn't have been that hard to get a half-dozen extras with the same build and the armors would've sold for a fortune (not to mention the obvious merchandizing options if you already know how to make more).
Only part I can’t get used to is the midsection where the grooves go straight up. I don’t know why that tiny detail sticks out to me but it throws the rest off.
@@forrestpenrod2294it’s cuz it makes them look fat and clunky. It’s the same problems the stormtroopers had in the OT. The cgi armor looks like it’s real armor that fits, whereas the real armor looks like a plastic shell.
@@Chosen_one_501 I don't mean the size, I mean the actual vertical trenches/grooves in the middle that run from the belt to under the breast plate.
They're supposed to curve out but on this costume they go straight up. Looks really weird once you notice it.
