    Thank you so much for this video. Cold day here in Virginia, got out of work, start the vehicle and bam Service Engine Light comes on. I did exactly what you did and started into a rant. Glad I found this video. Going to have it checked out and hopefully it's a simple fix.

    My brother in Christ thank you I just received the 2017 Jeep renegade and I had no clue what was going on with my engine after doing an oil change. It's still under warranty with the company I got it from and I'm going to take it into the shop sometime this week to figure it out 🙌🏾

    Same. Co stantly comes on and dealer resets it. Think I will buy that reader and keep resetting it. I did get the P0013 air intake temp sensor from auto zone but dealer didn't show it. Yeah, loss of 4x4 capability turned off is an issue. Anyone have a link to simple obd tool that resets the codes?

    That’s insane that you loose the ability of 4wd because of a thermostat.
    That makes about as much sense as not being able to put your seatbelt on because you don’t have 4 passengers.

    • @conwaytwittyisalive9883
      @conwaytwittyisalive9883 Před 5 lety +1

      It's some sort of failsafe Jeep put in place for whatever reason. If the check engine light is on, it won't go into four wheel drive. It's dumb as hell, but it's how they did it.

    • @gjmarin2004

    • @bryanmartinez6600
      @bryanmartinez6600 Před 2 lety +2

      It rather makes sense mechanically. Engaging 4WD will add even more strain to the drivetrain increasing the amount of heat produced. The thermostat on these are powered actually. They open and close by the ECM, however when they "fail" they work passively like a standard thermostat or should work like that. The thermostat looks like it's built into it's housing so unlike old thermostats that was just a thermostat this one is a part with thermostat, housing, and coolant line connections.
      All I can say in the end is powered thermostats are a result of EPA which made manufacturers develop ways to rapidly warm up the engine and keep it in the most ideal temperature to run cleaner. Unlike old thermostats which pop open and close at a wider temperature range the ECM will have more control over engine temperature.
      So more complex.

    i need help starting a 2016 jeep renegade, it is crashed and the dash lights don't turn on i need this to program a new key except this, is there any way to start it without a key? I also tried to buy a new key but it seems that the body control is damaged and does not make the parking lights come on when buying a new body control, would I need to program it for my car especially?

  • @kellychristensen6748
    @kellychristensen6748 Před 6 měsíci

    My mechanic Says cold weather can cause and then it will be fine but then said if it keeps doing it, he'd replace thermostat... how annoying disables the factory remote start too.. I do hope this isn't the beginning of the nickel and diming! He explained it with mine anyway the engine is running cold around 160.. and reading more on it, can cause engine wear and less fuel mileage which I have noticed for awhile now. I never get what they say I should get with it.

    • @jhiggerson
      @jhiggerson Před 6 lety +1

      Ah just saw the coil happened to you this week past week! $300 was a good price though it's crazy how easy it is to swap out the ignition coil on your own for the price of the part ($55). I had to pay $620 for ONE coil and 4 plugs. Dealership was a total rip off even after talking them down. Also just a note as you've mentioned it in both videos, if the check engine light is on, the 4WD system won't function as a precaution until its resolved (unless you were in 4WD when it happened, then it may stay on). My 2016 is just crossing over 50k. Really not looking forward to any other issues but I think these Renegades are doomed! Good luck to us

    • @jhiggerson
      @jhiggerson Před 5 lety

      As of a few weeks ago, I now get random "Service Airbag" and "Service Parking Brake" warnings and lights, which after googling is another common problem and has to do with a fault in the passenger seat buckle sensor. These cars are the absolute worst.

    • @inspirationalnomad
      @inspirationalnomad  Před 6 lety +1

      iasnaredrm88 Hello, yes it "should" be, I drove mine for about 2 weeks before the dealer could fix it.. the engine thermostat value should fail open and allow for coolant to continue to run through the engine, the only issue should be you lose 4WD capability until the issue is resolved.
      Hang in there, I know it sucks ☺✌

    I have a 2015 Jeep Renegade and my service engine light came on. I didn’t notice any drivability issues. Turns out the cooling fan had seized up. I took it to a small business auto repair, and they fixed it. However, they can’t reset the service engine light. They said it clears and then comes right back on. They checked it over again and everything was okay. They said that if the vehicle isn’t serviced by a dealer with a factory part, you can’t clear the light. So, my light is still on but they assure me everything is okay. Fingers crossed. Has anyone ever heard anything like this?

    yep, just one more idiotic design feature; loose 4x4 if you have a check engine light. Running light out = no 4x4. I carry an obd reader in the trailhawk, note the code, wipe the code if need to have 4x and is good long enough to get up the hill to the shop.
