Great video! Thanks
Thank you for the useful information.
Thank you.
Very interesting thank you
Shingle life is like a prison sentence. It pretty much serves half the time.
This was very helpful! Thank you!
Happy we could help!
Shingles are a cheaper way to roof .But it has great limitations. Long term a concrete tiled roof or slate roof are the way to go .
True, but you have to factor in costs, foundational support, and labor. Slate and concrete tile roofs require specialized labor, and are added weight to the foundation of your home. In other words, if your home wasn’t built to support that extra weight, it wouldn’t work. Metal is another option for a long-term, more environmentally friendly option than shingles, but again - while the price has trended down lately - metal is more expensive than shingles.
I was hoping to hear something about improper nail placement. Too close to the edge of joint between shingles etc. Thanks
That’s another one, though that’s due to improper installation. If you choose a bad contractor to install your roof, then unfortunately you may run into this issue.
Thank you for this video. I wish you were in FL.
We actually have a family member running his own branch in the Gainesville/Alachua area. Not sure where you’re located, but we’d love to help if close by!
Thank you so much. Unfortunately I’m in southern FL- Fort Lauderdale area.
@@courtneyhaselberger2382 oh shoot - maybe we’ll make it to Fort Lauderdale one day! I hope you’re able to find a reliable roofing contractor in the meantime.
Do you offer free estimates? Rain today in Midlothian. Dry attic, but there’s a dripping sound in my laundry room wall following tonight’s rain storm. Please advise. Thank you!
Hi Bill - yes, we offer free estimates. Please call our office at 804-442-3314 to set up an appointment.
Please align those squares hanging on the wall behind you
Great info. Do you have a location in NJ? Or referral?
Unfortunately no, though I wish we could help!
I hired J &G Exteriors in West Allis Wisconsin. They put on a new roof and didn't properly flash anything and did not install gutter aprons!! My roof leaks worse now than it did before the reroofing! You hire these people and you're not going to be happy with the result. FYI!
I’m sorry for your bad roofing experience, but we’re Retex Roofing & Exteriors, based in Richmond, Virginia. We didn’t install your roof.
Skylights are the #1 cause of leaks that I have seen.
Skylights can be another common cause, mostly due to their flashing wearing down or to their flashing/the skylight itself not being replaced during a new roof install.
--------------------------- solar panels are so right for the economics n environmental......but so wrong for roof....water damage will cost much more than what you think your saving on electric....thanks4sharing
Ha ha yes Sears and home Depot used to sub out to junkies and drunk crews in BC , total filthy work. Most commonly cause of roof leaks is shady roofers. Crappy work. All 5 issues here plus many many more. Too many shady roofers
I have contacted all of the roofers in my smallish city of 35K regarding my roof leak and none of the have even gotten back to me. It’s been over 3 weeks and winter is coming. So frustrating. Any suggestions?
Hi Tom, so sorry to hear that - definitely frustrating! One idea you may want to try is contacting a roofing supply company (such as ABC, Superior - whoever the distributors are locally) to see if they have any roofing contractors they recommend. I hope you're able to have someone fix your roof before winter arrives!
Call my company we fix for you
all vents
I got #6 cause: SEARS did your roof and it's leaking after 2 years.
Bro there is nomore sears that exist ! When n where could that be possible lol
It's still under warranty....right?
What about the metal roof???
While this video is directed primarily at asphalt shingle roofs, these are still the most common areas for roof leaks for metal roofs as it’s anywhere the roof meets “non-roof.”
It also depends on the type of metal roof you have. Ribbed metal roofs sometimes have issues with the gaskets around the nails wearing down. In any case, I’d recommend calling a licensed and insured roofing company to assess your roof.
If sears did your roof no need to investigate the problem anymore 😂
Put a cork in it and pipe down George Floyd, don't make me get the knee out!
Using perma boots on the pipe boots. Cheap insurance
Boats are waterproof right? Most are now made out of fiberglass right? So, why don't people make their roof's with waterproof fiberglass? Would last longer as well. Because, most boats decking's hardly ever leek, and they are heavily used. Fiberglass pools are long lasting waterproof tested. Fiberglass is strong and can take extreme weather and sunshine. Most likely people just follow, never thinking outside the box or on their own.
That's what synthetic underlayment is for
Fibre glass roofs have been a thing here in the UK for quite some years now. It's a temperamental system but done correctly its a good choice especially for flat roofs
Fiberglass cracks too easy. I see decks here in BC after deep cold they crack at pressure points as well .fiberglass on roofs is not flexible enough to withstand wear and tear
There are plenty of fiberglass based shingles out there.... have been for decades
Fiberglass also cracks especially in cold temperatures. Fiberglass has its pros and cons. Personally I likes the EPDM shingles. They do not crack like fiberglass shingles. Do a slam test on a cold day. Slam down a bundle of shingles and see how how many crack. Fiberglass is weak in many ways.
He doesn't go up on the roof
Not in this video, but we do go up on roofs...
You're a great script reader..
Handsome too.
Stop lying 😂 horrible script reader but whoever wrote it knows their stuff about roofing
Hey, we're roofers not broadcasters. We tried our best!
RENAME THIS VIDEO WITH SHINGLE ROOF ONLY NEXT TIME.... SMH
Sorry to upset you - while you’re right in that we’re focused here on asphalt shingle roofs, these are still the most common causes of roof leaks. We will consider making videos in the future pinpointing common roof leaks per roof type. Have a great day!
Reading from the screen, seriously?
We’re an exterior contractor, not a trained broadcast professional - so we wrote a script and read it to deliver the educational information. We can’t be experts in every field, but we are when it comes to roofs, siding, windows, and gutters.
Excellent job. There's always at least one out there. By the way- perfect response
