Very true - insufficient ventilation can definitely premature your roof and decking from the inside, keeping your home from “breathing,” especially on hot summer days. Thanks for contributing a great point!

While this video is directed primarily at asphalt shingle roofs, these are still the most common areas for roof leaks for metal roofs as it’s anywhere the roof meets “non-roof.” It also depends on the type of metal roof you have. Ribbed metal roofs sometimes have issues with the gaskets around the nails wearing down. In any case, I’d recommend calling a licensed and insured roofing company to assess your roof.

Sorry to upset you - while you’re right in that we’re focused here on asphalt shingle roofs, these are still the most common causes of roof leaks. We will consider making videos in the future pinpointing common roof leaks per roof type. Have a great day!

Hi Shaneka, I'm sorry to hear of all the issues you're experiencing. You may want to consult with a general contractor, who can assess everything going on with your home to see what might be linked to your headaches, fatigue, excessive sleeping, etc. As for the water marks on the ceiling around flue pipe, it sounds like it could be a leak linked to the pipe collar. I would try reaching out to a roofing contractor to assess if it's the flue pipe or the pipe collar itself at fault. I wish you the best of luck!

That’s another one, though that’s due to improper installation. If you choose a bad contractor to install your roof, then unfortunately you may run into this issue.

True, but you have to factor in costs, foundational support, and labor. Slate and concrete tile roofs require specialized labor, and are added weight to the foundation of your home. In other words, if your home wasn’t built to support that extra weight, it wouldn’t work. Metal is another option for a long-term, more environmentally friendly option than shingles, but again - while the price has trended down lately - metal is more expensive than shingles.

It’s a nice color - the clips in this video were shot during a slightly cloudy day, but the bluish hues somewhat mute the red. You may be able to visit a roof supply store near you and see the shingle color; if you can, put it under a warm light. Or you could pick a different color 😅. True on the chimney!

One idea you may want to try is contacting a roofing supply company (such as ABC, Superior - whoever the distributors are locally) to see if they have any roofing contractors they recommend. I hope you're able to have someone fix your roof before winter arrives!

Skylights can be another common cause, mostly due to their flashing wearing down or to their flashing/the skylight itself not being replaced during a new roof install.

Both are great shingles, but Titan XT is designed for better wind resistance (up to 160 mph, vs Heritage's 15-year limited wind warranty up to 110 mph). The Titan XT shingles also come with an AnchorLock layer, which secures the nails in a reinforced fabric under the shingles during install to lock the nails into the decking better, as well as anti-aging granules.

@@retexroofingexteriorsllc what's your thoughts on the recent class action law suit against Tamko Heritage? I am about to install new shingles using that but now I'm having doubts.

@@Xaero324 the latest class action lawsuit we know about against Tamko Heritage shingles was filed starting in 2014 and settled in 2017. It's a very rare occasion for shingles to be defunct and dysfunctional, and - as long as installed to the manufacturers' specifications - you are from the get-go covered by the manufacturers' warranties on the shingles themselves if there are any issues. If you're having any doubts, reach out to your roofing contractor and confirm the coverage. Again, it's very rare for shingles to crack, break, curl, etc. within the first 10 years of installation.

Fibre glass roofs have been a thing here in the UK for quite some years now. It's a temperamental system but done correctly its a good choice especially for flat roofs

Fiberglass cracks too easy. I see decks here in BC after deep cold they crack at pressure points as well .fiberglass on roofs is not flexible enough to withstand wear and tear

Fiberglass also cracks especially in cold temperatures. Fiberglass has its pros and cons. Personally I likes the EPDM shingles. They do not crack like fiberglass shingles. Do a slam test on a cold day. Slam down a bundle of shingles and see how how many crack. Fiberglass is weak in many ways.
