Remember if you're not replacing all the shingles where your tarp is going, don't nail through your shingles otherwise you're just creating more holes for water to get in. Nail the tarp UNDER the shingles you lift up and not in a seam. Nail a 2x4 or something similar to the bottom of the tarp to weigh it down. Temporary fix and keeps holes to fix to a minimum.

True, for sure, but not always possible. Upon removal, be sure to tar every hole made.

Yeah if you have a small area like in this video, I recommend just replacing the shingle. Especially if the rest of the roof is in good condition.

Thank you. The insurance company wanted us to call a 'professional' that would have charged us a fortune -- and we don't have that kind of money. Doesn't matter if they say they are going to reimburse, the tarpers are going to want their money up front. Going to do this before it rains this weekend!

What about tarping on a tar and gravel roof.
We have a flat section of our roof that has to be replaced in the spring, but not possible for now.
Can it be tarped similarly or does it have to be that seal they suggest? Leak is small but want to prevent further damage or moisture incoming.

Appears to work well on newer roofs where shingles remain pliable. Otherwise, overlay the tarp using one by twos to extend the tarp over the damaged surface. The reason that some roofers overlay from the ridge is that the repair should extend the full length of the ridge.

Overall you did a pretty good job but if there’s a heavy continuous down pour this is not water proof. One mistake you made is where you installed the tarp under the shingles where those two shingles meet in the middle you did not put the tarp all the way up under that next shingle up. So where those two shingles meet there’s a hole above that tarp. Other than that good explanation and trying to do what’s best for the client.
