    A little tip to home owners if you get a leak in a ceiling as soon as you notice put a whole in it so it doesn’t spread across the whole board it can prevent the sheet from bowing and falling the water spreads and starts soaking the drywall causing it to turn soft and the screws pull loose

    • @kenseymour5152
      @kenseymour5152 Před 2 lety +24

      @@JoeKing67. of course the leak has to be fixed I just stated that if you come across a leak in your ceiling just put a hole in the drywall if not the water spreads across the whole board and causes the paper backing to start letting water into the gypsum and it turns back into mud and the whole board will sag and finally collapse if you put a whole in it and let it drip into a pal then all you have to fix is the hole that you put into it not the whole ceiling. In some cases you will have to take the board down to fix the problem

I'd like to suggest maybe putting together a separate video where you break down what each of this compounds, muds and stuff are for, or why you use them. As for the cats, anytime I do repairs around my house the cat is there watching, knowing cats they are probably grading your work.

    This has definitely been an informative video. I have a hole in the ceiling in my garage that's been there since 2018. I have tried to tackle it and now i know i've been concentrating on the wrong thing. Me being a novice in this area thought I had to scrape away the texture around the hole on the existing sheetrock to ensure proper blending. I have racked my brain trying to figure out how to scrap off the old texture. When I tackle this again I plan to get it finished and in the past.

    Great video Paul. I do ceiling repairs in condominium buildings. Most leaks are caused by a leaking bathtub drain or toilet wax ring leaks. I use a oscillating multitool to cut the plaster coated stucco ceiling. Then I use the wood and cut it 4 inches longer on each side of the repair . I also use a thin drill bit to make pilot holes to screw the wood to the ceiling so the plaster won’t crack. Then I screw the new drywall using shims to level the repair and make it flush with the rest of the ceiling. Afterwards I bed the mash tape with 20 minute mud. After the mud sets up I give it a second coat of 20 minute mud through the rest of the repair extending the mud 12 inches from the repair. The third and fourth coats I use 90 minute mud very thinned out so I can skim coat the rest of the repair. I let it dry well between each coat. On the third day I sanded prime it and paint it. Thank you for sharing your techniques specially the skip trowel finish.

    I am a contractor. Love your tricks. Sometimes we get so stuck in out ways its difficult to see a different method until someone else shows us. Hence we learn. Over my carreer in the trades i have probably done the most of drywall finishing, and drywall repairs can be the worst to finish properly and match existing finish, like there was no repair in the first place, thats the goal. Its much easier to finish new drywall. I appreciate you sharing your experience with everyone who wants to know and doing a great job in the process. you tha man! Fyi you have sold me on the fibafuse. I am used to using mesh tape with a hot mud, but if i can get a flatter tape that fuses better with the mud, those who finish drywall know thats the way to go. Keep it up man!

We were all in stitches as kitty stood on the toilet seat between the plumber and the tank, hanging over looking into the water tank...sticking his paws in the water and meowing all about it!

    Seeing the thumbnail, reminded me of a renovation job I had done in Alexandria, VA. It turned nightmarish. I was just about finished, the last job remaining was painting the living room ceiling in an old house. After completing that task, the bulk of the ceiling’s paint fell to the floor leaving bare plaster!!! The weight of my work was just enough to make the several layers of paint to separate. It added a few days onto the job. The paint that remained needed to be stripped, and the results needed priming. Then finally, repainting. Fortunately, the homeowner thought the whole affair was hilarious. He could have blown his top, and bad mouthed me in the trades.
