- I never heard anything from Boz until he released his now classic "Silk Degrees" in 1976, although he had been recording since 1966. "Silk Degrees" was a defining moment for all with the songs Lowdown, Lido Shuffle and We're All Alone.
He was born June 8, 1944 in Canton, Ohio the eldest child of Royce and Helen Scaggs. The first instrument he learned was how to play the cello at the age of nine. Boz won a scholarship to attend St Marks School Of Texas and met Steve Miller. Miller helped Scaggs get his first guitar and gave him his Boz in 1959.
He joined Miller's band The Marksmen and after graduating in 1962. After that, the two floated around and Boz quit school in 1963 to concentrate on his recording career. He joined the Army and fronted a new band for a few months. After dabbling in psychedelic music Miller again approached Boz to join him for Miller's first two albums in 1968. Moderate sales helped to fuel his desire to record but did not find fame until 1976 and his "Silk Degrees" album where the backing band was to become known as Toto.
The first single issued was "What Can I Say" released in November of 1976 entering the chart at #85 and peaking at #42 for four weeks on the Hot100. This is one of those albums that is a monolith, every song was different and created a warm, jazzy and R&B flavoured album that still resonates today. I can listen to this one on repeat and keep it in my car along with Steely Dan Aja. What do you carry round in YOUR car or device? What is your go to album? - Hudba
Cowritten and performed by the keyboard player and singer for Toto! Marvelous that he surrounded himself with such talent
What can I say? Thank you Boz and discocat for this! What can I do? Keep playing it over and over!
65 only stings for a moment with music like this 🎶 thanks for the birthday present!

Beatiful song❤❤❤
Silk Degrees…one of the best albums of all time.
Thank you for this .More Boz Scaggs please .Truly one of the true legends from this era .
This is the first love song I have ever heard Boz Scaggs sing.
I saw Boz in concert in Greenville SC in 2016. BEST concert i have EVER been to. Great song!!
Geez i have not heard this song is YEARS. I remember when my mom bought the Silk Degress album. Very cool Thank you.
I have loved this song since my mother bought the 8-track in early 1976. I’ve had every audio version of this album. This song is one of the smoothest disco records ever made. Nothing like the mid-7os, musically. Disco was fresh and the groove was awesome. 😀🪩💕
I’ve said this often, can’t say it enough the music and the artist of the 60s and 70s… The best you can get. Boz Scaggs was definitely one of them, thank you for the remix loving it
Silk Degrees IMO is one of the best records from the 70's. Every track is good, amazing production and the best album in Boz Skaggs long musical career. I still listen,(not daily), and I still get caught up in it's heady rhythms and energy. Thanks for this!
Thanks for making this song last longer!!
The play length is the best part of this song.
What a great re=mix of this song . Thanks
Love this song so much 💚🎶💚.
Thank you for offering us a long version !!! 🙂
You mean this is the whole version that should have been made long ago!
I'll take more time with Boz and These Fine Musicians! The Back Up Vocals are so much a part of this I don't think they're Back Up! They're All just Fantastic!💖🎶
@@captainkeyboard1007 does another long version exist ?
@@bewitched6479 Yes. It is "Lowdown." Thank you for tapping or typing to me.
@@captainkeyboard1007 ok. Thanks 😉
I was fortunate to see Boz live at least 3-4 times. He did not disappoint.

M E M O R I E S of THE BEST MUSIC all CATIFIED TO PUUURRRFECTION!!!!😸
What a great album - and sublime rework of one of Boz’s gems. The production is so good, it’s hard to imagine the tune was recorded nearly 50yrs ago
Thanks For Extending One Of My Favorite Songs
Great blast from the past!
Thanks, Cat!! 🙂
This takes me back to early 1977 top track often played at discos . Music from a great era .
Us boomers were lucky to have experienced the golden era of music from the 50s-70s. We were teens/adults then. You folks have no Idea, especially GenX and Millennials.
Edit: GenX, do not bother getting emotional I said what I said, relying on your parents isn't the same experience, stop crying about it and move on.
I'm a boomer too and I agree with you 100%.
Gen X is '65 to '80. I was born in '73. My Silent Gen parents played music from the '50s on up constantly at home and in the car or van, on records, 8 tracks, cassettes, and the radio, of course. But you are delusional if you think there was no music in the '80s just as great as the previous decades (or just has a shallow awareness of what was released, then).
Nobody's crying but you lol
@@maxsmart9116 always has to be at least one ass munch in the crowd. congratulations sir you're it.
Very true, best music of any era, just ny opinion
I love this.
Fabulosa larga duracion de este gran clasico de BOZ SCAGGS.
Classic Forever.
Buena canción del maestro boz, gracias por esta obra de arte.
*Wonderful!* I, too, was blown away by Silk Degrees when it came out & saw him perform not too long after -- one of the memorable moments of my teenage years (he had an enormous portrait of his then-partner in the foyer of the venue, very classy :) Such an extraordinary decade for music -- thanks for reworking this one!
Best mix of disco & pop done mighty fine!!
Still a masterpiece
Fabulous mix of a great, great song. Thank you for giving this classic a unique, longer life. Coin toss for me between this and “Georgia” on Silk Degrees. The album has an asterisk in my library, one that always finds its way to the top of the playlist.
Too many go-to albums for me, but James Taylor’s 1970 “Sweet Baby James” is right near the top.
Fire And Rain: James, obviously, but Carole King’s piano, Bobby West’s bow-drawn double bass and Russ Kunkel’s brushed drums are sublime. Followed on the album by Blossom makes for the greatest back-to-back songs for me, ever.
The whole album is gold......
I was up late one night in '76 and the radio station was going to debut this album. Figured I'd check it out. So I recorded it off the radio in its entirety onto a cassette. Could not believe what I was hearing, blew me away.
Favorite BOZ song…Love Love Love it

Another winner by DJ DiscoCat! Man, wouldn't it be great to get your versions on 12 inch vinyl!
Whoever selected this album cut for extended play is a sheer music genius. This is the first time I hear this song and it is just wonderful like the rest on the Silk Degrees album. However, I heard "Lowdown" and "Lido Shuffle" in 1976. "What Can I Say" is my second favorite Boz Scaggs song. DJDiscoCat, you did another splendid job! 🙂🎼🎵🎶🎹🎷
What a nice surprise before work, thank you cat
Love Boz🥰❤🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶💞❤🎷

Superb an old fave and great mix as usual @DJDiscoCat!
Yeah? I never heard of Boz Scaggs until this song came along, and it made the playlist at Radio 83, call sign KUGR; it was the campus radio station at Cuesta Community College in central California. I as a disc jockey used to play that record. Little did I know at the time that Boz Scaggs would be the breakout artist of 1976. I’m glad DiscoCat refreshed this tune. It sounds better than ever. What can I say?
MEESTERLIJK !!!! Niet te evenaren .... PRACHTIG nummer ... en wat een muzikaal virtuoos !!!!!!!
Anita's 1986 Rapture LP endures as a gem.
