- "More Than A Woman" is a Bee Gees composition that they recorded for "Saturday Night Fever" as well as Tavares who put an R&B spin on their version. Both songs were featured in the film. The Bee Gees version was not issued as a single in the US and the UK, I'm guessing it was because they knew it would crush the Tavares version.
Tavares is also a brother act and they were backstage at Madison Square Garden when Barry Gibb approached them and offered them the chance to record it. Producer Freddie Perren took over the reins as he did on "If I Can't Have You".
Perren employed the same rhythm section of Bob "Boogie" Bowles (guitar), Scott Edwards (bass) and James Gadson (drums), and recorded it as his own Los Angeles studio, which he called Mom & Pop's Company Store.
Talking about Perren working on the Tavares track, Edwards told Songfacts: "He knew how to do a production, and he wanted the musicians to come up with a good track. But he was always listening. He always had something in front of you that you could look at, but note wise, he knew by the time the session was over the notes would not be nowhere near what he had written. So he wrote very little, which was good, because the musicians knew that his music always had a little more musical involvement, which meant you could be more musical in your playing." - Hudba
Special women can only dance to this jam. The modern women in today's society don't fit the bill.

The seventies was the beginning of disco. Lots of love songs. 1977 the year I met my husband to be. We saw Saturday Night Fever when it first came out. Such precious and treasured memories of my husband. May he rest in peace. It’s never goodbye until we meet in Heavens glory.

There's always some Boomer complaining the "Malaise era" with bad fashion, crappy cars and more pollution was the best time of their life.
Oh this music was an enormous part of my teenage world ! I remember lying on the cool grass in the evening with my radio close by and the sweet summer breeze wafting all around my body. Summer days were filled with suntanning and spending almost all of my time with my friends. We walked or biked down to the creek to play in the cool water on those hot summer days. We ran out into the field next to my house to find out favorite spot on a lush green hillside where we sat and talked. We could see the railroad tracks below us and the 4 lane highway just beyond the tracks. We shared our dreams and secrets and all the while my radio played in the background. I took my music everywhere so wherever I was I could hear those Bee Gees songs or Abba, Journey, ELO and many others were not only a part of my life but also a part of me. Whenever I hear songs like More Than A Woman it takes me back to those carefree summers and awakens that little bit of my heart that's still a teenager. Thank you so much for putting a new twist on a song that's very special to me. I still love and enjoy The Bee Gees music. 👍👍👍👍 ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Their wives divorced them for going disco in 1975 and it's sad and pathetic that disco destroyed their marriages. Yes disco music can be the cause of a breakup of a marriage and cause divorce. How sad indeed it is!

There’s another unexpected change before the song continues along it’s familiar path making it seem a natural progression as we’re treated to more orchestration & more of the chorus. It all sounds as if this could have been a substitute cut that was intended or discarded before settling on the version we recognise, so this seamless mix makes for a great alternative extended mix. Well worth a listen.

The Bee Gees were incredibly good at letting their songs transport you to another place. The arrangements and pacing gave them a distinction with a massive difference. I was a huge Tavares fan at the time but the Bee Gees version was the one that was not only good but great. I think it comes down to the tempo. The Robert Stigwood Organization (RSO) was on-fire at the time.

This Saturday Night Fever stuff is a little too intense for me lately, I realize.
It's not only the music. I feel that a certain age with certain music can pierce immensely deep into one's being/soul.
That touch will be engraved and the connection to either one of them at certain moments invokes the exact same emotions from the past, only being extra flavored with the understanding of the elder age at the time, hearing the song again.

Have to disagree w u as being a disco group. They started hitting the charts in the late 60s, having several top 40 hits before disco happened. In the mid 70s, they changed w the times and started recording disco music and their popularity exploded w SNF. Unfortunately, their popularity waned after SHF in 79...they just couldnt get away from the unfortunate branding of disco kings!!

I have so many memories with his song.
I still rememeber when my dad took me to the school. He used to listen so many Disco Songs of the Decade of the /0's and he often play them on the radio frequently. This song isn't the exception, he used to play it a lot of times, so much so that it started to like me. Becoming in one of my favourite songs and I still listening it until this day.
I Personally prefer this type of music than the actual music. This Music gets to transport me to many places and I Love that!! Something that the actual Music Doesn't do.

I can’t decide which version of “More Than A Woman” is fantastic, the one by The Bee Gees or the other by Tavares. Both are equally excellent. And they both have been turned into musical masterworks by DiscoCat. What more than I say, except that Robin and Maurice Gibb are smiling down from heaven.
