This man was a miracle genius to children… people like him are the real missing link to child education, influence and inspiration. Kids need to have that, they starve for it, and in today’s children programming it just simply does not exist. What has happened to our values?? Where did they go??
ANNETTE FUNICELLO (R.I.P.) mentioned this in an Eighties documentary." [Jimmie Dodd] created a ukulele for the Mickey Mouse Club. Only, he called it a "Mousegetar". A very special man...."
This was an excellent bit to teach children how easy learning something new can be. Everything seems more complicated until you start learning about it. This little bit was a fantastic way to introduce this to kids.
Yep! And the recording with ANNETTE ("Lonely Guitar") featured perhaps the very first use of the rotating "Leslie" speaker. This REAL Mousegetar was made of wood, and had SIDE tuning pegs...made by a couple of Hispanic guys in Mexico,so I read. There were TWO toy versions...the big one (red and black plastic) was involved with the Macafferri patents...he'd also licensed the "Arthur Godfrey Islander" ukulele. Thanks for this.
I knew who he was when I was a kid but didn't realize that he passed away before I was born. I thought he was a great role model for all kids. I used to watch reruns of the Mickey Mouse Club when I was a kid. The other mentor was Roy.
weenies like; Rabon Delmore, Nick Reynolds, Tiny Grimes, Scatman Crothers, Barry Mitterhoff (Hot Tuna), Neko Case, Marcy Marxer, EZ Marc Poschman, Spider Murphy, John Lawlor, Robin Hunte, Big and Little Mike McKendrick, Tim May, Seth Lakeman and hundreds of others..... Eddie Condon played "Plectrum Guitar" and Jimmy Dodd played "Tenor Guitar" tuned CGDA, like a tenor banjo. He also wrote the songs including the Mickey Mouse theme known around the world.
Could someone please comment in which order he's playing that song? Please, I'm learning guitar and I desperately want to play this song. I love the Mouseketeers so much and I really want to play this song
Why aren’t all of these shows on Disney+?!
jimmy was one of the people that first got me interested in the guitar. jimmy was a GREAT person...An inspiration to all of us.
Jimmie was singing a song about the chords C-F-G7 but in reality the songs chords are Bb-Eb-F7 😊
Jimmie Dodd would only live another 7 years after this show😢
He was the greatest! ❤
This year will actually mark the 60th anniversary of his death

Jimmy was an excellent guitarist, and good singer too
I don't think a lot of people realize what a talented tenor guitar player Dodd was.

love the 4 string tenor guitar
I watch this when I'm sad and the enthusiasm in it cheers me up every time. :-) Thanks for the upload.

This guy was so talented and charming!
It's hard to believe that he died 52 years ago
Personally I Play The Ukulele, Recorder, and Tin Whistle Myself. But I always Loved these Old Episodes.
So that's how Mouse Guitar Came about, and I thought it had Always Been there. Of Course I'm a Gen-X So I saw these in Reruns back in 1985.
Yes, the MouseGuitar was custom made for Disney by Candelario Delgado.
BEST CHRISTMAS PRESENT EVER! Thank you, Bill!
Dodd could also play a regular guitar, ukulele, banjo, and probably other instruments.

What happened to Jimmy's original guitar?
Disney offices in Burbank Ca, the mousegatar is a tenor guitar made by Candelas in Los Angeles CA, still in business making incredible guitar.
did anyone notice, that jimmy is doing a one finger salute?
No, probably because he's not.

C-G7-C-F (I think)
What's "weenie" about not needing those two "training strings"?
Jimmie makes it seem so easy playing the geetar. Actually he sounds like the punks of the seventies. All you need is three chords mannnnnn.
Made by the Candelas bros., probably when they had a shop in Tijuana.
