The Witcher is a fantasy action role-playing game series developed by CD Projekt Red and published by CD Projekt. It is based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, acting as non-canonical sequels to the story of the books.
The main series began in 2007 with the release of The Witcher, and concluded with 2015's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As of 2022, the series has three main standalone games, two expansion packs and seven spin-off games. The series is critically acclaimed and commercially successful, selling over 75 million units by March 2023.
In March 2022, a fourth installment of the franchise was announced to be in early development[1] and is planned as the start of a new trilogy for the series.[2] In October 2022, a remake of The Witcher was announced. Fool's Theory will mainly develop the game with full creative supervision from The Witcher series staff and CD Projekt Red.[3] Another game will also be developed by The Molasses Flood and created with support from CDPR.
The series has spawned a series of graphic novels published by Dark Horse Comics.
The series revolves around Geralt of Rivia, a skilled monster hunter, and his adventures in a fantasy world of magic, political intrigue, and dangerous creatures. The gameplay mainly focuses on exploration, combat, and decision-making as the player navigates Geralt in the game world, completing quests, and fighting enemies. The series is known for its intricate narratives, morally ambiguous choices, and attention to detail in creating rich and immersive worlds for players to explore.
The games are represented in a third-person view perspective in a partially open world environment. Potions are consumable items that Geralt can use to temporarily enhance his abilities. Players can choose which skills to invest in based on their preferred playstyle and customize Geralt's skills to their liking. In addition to potions and abilities, the game also includes equipment upgrades such as weapons and armor that can further enhance Geralt's abilities. Crafting and upgrading gear is another important aspect of the game where players must gather resources and work with crafters to create the gear that best suits Geralt's needs.

I think the Ciri inspiration is a bit odd. However I love Alvin's arc and the Witcher I main story so much that I don't care. I almost cried when I read his letter, it was that powerful for me, years later.
Regarding the remake as much as I want that they tie TW1 with the other two a bit better, I really hope they don't mess up the TW1 main story.
Specifically I think the way they did the Geralt shaping and creating Jaques through his conversations with Alvin is just genius

I've always had a sweet spot for Witcher 1. The amnesia plot device is perfect for new players. The developers and you are dipping your toes into this fantasy world. I always enjoy this game.

Growing pains for the Devs making a big new brand is what it was. At least they remembered those of us that got carpel tunnel playing the Witcher 1 too many times.

For me "Alvin is de Aldersberg and have elder blood" plot is so good from philosophical perspective and is not problem/mistake for me (with good explanation obviously - for me he is Ciri's grandson or someone like that and he teleports to geralts time in very young age, but I know this is only my headcanon). I dislike more that Lodge is well-known (one of the biggest plotholes in trilogy), or that AzarJaved is capable to create dozens of mutants in 1 MONTH (for me that is most lore-breaking thing in witcher 1, and I want that to be fixed in remake).

In terms of canon, elder blood only passes on to girls, so even if he's related to Ciri, he would just be a carrier of the blood, but not an actual source.

5:07 Maybe Avalla'ch didn't know about that other guy. Or maybe, probably, Alvin wasn't powerful enough for the Aen Elle purposes. Heck, even Ciri wasn't powerful enough for their purposes.
8:35 I totally agreed. It shouldn't be forgotten even if it's not useful anymore. Overall, i Loved TW1 plot, it was interesting, beautiful, didn't stray much from the lore and even opened new perspectives like what if there is more branches to Ciri family that we know of ? After all, even the mages that closely studied the descendants of Lara Dorren admitted that they lost control of the whole thing.

I remember finding a letter in Witcher 3 that talk about alvin or is from alvin
I'm guessing there weren't sure just how to proceed. They didn't want to go directly off the books, but had to use the books for the characters and inspiration. For example Triss has many Yennefer characteristics, she doesn't act much like Triss. And Alvin, they wanted to use a child, but Ciri was older at this point and more powerful. And for all CDPR knew, the game might have been a dud.
i didn't really like alvin - when i first played witcher i though i just didn't like kids, but kid!ciri is so much better, even tho she doesn't appear much, so i guess i just don't really care abut alvin as a character. it did feel a little bit like he was just usurping ciri's place back then when witcher 1 came out (tho i'm sure that geralt has enough empathy to care about two children at once yk... we just didn't really know what direction cdpr will take those games back then, and if ciri will ever appear). i'm interesting what they will do with alvin's plotline in the remake, if they change it somehow. but with whose letters in witcher 3 they did confirm that alvin is in fact a part of canon, question is if they're going to leave him as is, or tweak his plotline somehow.

What I hate about this game is how it confused Triss' character for later players, some even calling her a manipulator and rapist, whereas she is such a sweet person and an idealist, the only nice person with any power in the witcher universe
What I love about CDPR tho is they gave her love a true chance that Sapkowski never understood
