  • Witcher Netflix Geralt Multiverse 'Plan'. Yes it's true, the witcher netflix could replace henry cavil with liam hemsworth using a multiverse explanation. Of course this is all in keeping with the well established 'lore', which to all of us witcher fans is very clear and not confusing in anyway. Will it happen at the end of witcher season 3 or witcher season 4? Who knows. Stay tune for more!

      It can be done well, but it depends on how it's done. However, the witcher just doesn't gel with it, when it's over-used. E.g. there shouldn't be other Geralts or other versions of the main characters, just other 'spheres'. For example, when you go to the world of the aen elle, it's not like there's another geralt just sat there, it's a unique world with unique characters to that world. Hence, it still feels within the witcher universe. Even examples like Ciri entering the (possible) cyperpunk world are okay ,as it doesn't impact the story in a meaningful way, it essentially acts as an easter egg (the devs even recognise this with Geralt's line not believing her), but using it as an excuse to swap out main characters that die (or in this case leave the show) is just lazy and unsatisfying. Where are the stakes? They're none existent. Why care about any character if there is an infinite number of other replaceable duplicates that the writers can just rip out of the 'multiverse'. It works in the Spiderman movie because it is established that each character is different and not essentially copies of the same person and, importantly, you primarily follow ONE of the character's stories, you don't swap them out for another version to fit some contrived plot idea.

    I hate the idea of multiverse too, though if you reason one might venture a guess that if the current witcher universe saw humans enter, then perhaps humans could also get drawn into another spheres/dimensions and perhaps they also created new witchers or some witchers might have been pulled in too.. but Geralt couldn't possibly be there so I think it's a bust..

They signaled their distaste for Witcher lore pretty early so I am absolutely NOT inclined to give an inch on what they do going forward and will not watch the series. Everyone has an opinion but as someone who adores the books and games I feel that they have flipped us off openly. They can try to multiverse their way out of this mess but I'm out man. So instead of Geralt getting badly beaten, to the point where he needs his face to be reconstructed with magic, they announce a new Geralt, from other dimension, who has no emotional connection to existing characters. What... The... Fuck.
    But honestly i feel like at this point you DON'T have to explain recast, just roll the story as if nothing changed. But in case of Netflix witcher, do not roll with it. End it now before you waste more money. Netflix witcher dies with Cavill leaving the show, and i think that Liam could be a good enough Geralt, just NOT with this people who are in charge of making this show. Start over, from nothing, new scriptwritters and showrunners, new cast. At this point they shoot themselves in a foot too many times and we heard at least 3 times that "Season will be in line with books" just to turns out it was a lie everytime. First season was Ok-ish. Yennefer and Ciri should be introduced in S2, and S1 should be focusing on building up the world, explaining what witchers are, who Geralt is. Instead of showing us 10 sex scenes, give us a scene when child Geralt becomes witcher with painful mutations. Show us pain of boys loosing their friends during witcher trials. Show us friendship between young Geralt and Eskel. Explain witcher signs to people who doesn't know the lore, since it was confusing to many people who are new to the Witcher world. Instead of giving us pointless Yennefer backstory that doesn't bare any weight at her current life, give us proper introduction to politics in this world. I really belive that skipping Yennefer and Ciri in first season, would be better for series. Introduce them later.

    I love how the writers cornered themselves with the rules of magic in the series. Instead of following and expanding on the source material, they stole from _Fullmetal Achemist_ for the equivalent exchange trope (which actually doesn't seem to apply in 90% of cases) and _Avatar: The Last Airbender_ for elemental magic (which, except for fire, also isn't used) only to use the book lore for Ciri's scene in the Korath desert. Only it doesn't make much sense, because it doesn't follow any rules established by the series before. Sums up the incompetent writing of the series for me.

  • @niofo7713
    @niofo7713 Před rokem

    the article just makes no sense tbh. first they acknowledge that the simplest way (and the way it was done plenty of times before) is just switching the actor without any in-universe comment about it, but then suddenly they turn around and claim that the series "needs strong reasoning" behind changing the actor - no it doesn't, you literally wrote the entirely plausible and commonly used option a few sentences earlier... stop reinventing the wheel, there is literally no reason for addressing it in-universe and bringing it constantly up will only annoy those 5 people who will still be watching witcher in season 4

    Yeah you can't shove a multiverse Geralt into the story.
    The Sword of Destiny/Something More explain why Geralt and Ciri's fates are destined to be intertwined. You can't have an alternate universe Geralt and still call it destiny.
    Incidentally, Something More is also a story about a man who defied destiny and got his ass handed to him until he accepted his destiny. Something the writers should consider.

    When writers hit rock bottom they always go multiverse. It's pathetic and destroys the vaule of your story. Because if there are multiple dimensions of the same events who the hell cares. Spiderverse and everything everywhere all at once did it right. It would have to be the story not escalate to it. You can tell amateur writers using that trope a lot nowadays

  • @pedromiguelesparzagarcia2694

    Technically Cd Projekt Red made the "multiverse thing" before Netflix because in TW1 Jacques de Aldesberg is basically male Ciri since he can travel through time with the Elder Blood and in canon is female only. I hope that they fixed that in the remake.

    In the S3P1, Yen gets briefly transported to some other world and slays a version of Geralt. I think the multiverse theory is very probable.
    My theory for Liam's role is that he's clearly not Cavill's Geralt and the show runners don't have confidence that he'll have the same vibe with Ciri and Yen anyway, so they're writing it off as it's because he's not their Geralt. Honestly, it just drives the point home even more than if they just did the switch like you said.

      Wasn't it just the cliffs we later see depicted in the art depicting the first mage landing at Thanedd? Also it wasn't another Geralt, it was an illusion created by Villegefortz to try and kill Yen. This isn't to say I don't think they will try and do a multiverse thing but I think it has more to do with multiverses being popular in media right now and them jumping on the bandwagon.
