I totally agree. It happens quite often. I'll take my hearing aids out and then someone starts talking to me and I'm like...uh, I can't hear you because I just took my ears out.

I fully get the anxiety thing, Im 65 never had a minute of anxiety in my life but Im finding that the worse my hearing gets and the more I depend on my hearing aids the greater the level of anxiety I feel whenever I need to take them out. I do sleep with them out but on a bad day (or night) I have actually got up and put them back in so I could unwind enough to get some sleep even though there is nothing to hear :). I have also started using a bluetooth eyemask with music that I can just hear and that helps heaps, I think its just something to let my brain know that I can still actually hear. Its amazing that hearing loss causes so many other side effects but your channel helps us know that the things we feel are also felt by others so thanks.

i totally agree with you i have had so many opportunities, and have similar feelings. When my wife n daughter talk without them in or when my co workers mumble something 20 feet away i still feel sad that i dont hear normally. but am learning to deal every day am learning ASL, teaching best communication practices and trying my darnedest to make sure my workplace is accessible to everyone !
PS I hate the silence as well sometimes :( causes me a bit of anxiety but am getting better at dealing with it

I get it! I dread having to take out my hearing aids - especially if I'm in public (hair salon, etc). Sometimes I even sleep with one in. Especially when traveling alone. I need to upgrade to a stronger aid, and I'm hoping I can get ones that aren't rechargeable. I like having the control battery powered aids give.

This is a great video. I too, hate being reminded of my hearing loss. I have two pair of hearing aids. One for during the day and one for at night. I like to leave one hearing aid in when I sleep. You mentioned that the silence gives you anxiety...me too. ❤

I get it. There are days when i feel defective when i am not wearing my hearing aids. My wear time is usually 20 hours on those days and i usually pop them into the charger if i need to be around people in the evenings.

I started losing my hearing when I turned 18 and it became steadily worse as the years rolled by. For me, it was FRUSTRATING having a hearing loss, and each day I lived with it... it seemed the frustration level increased as much as my hearing decreased. Being unable to understand people on the telephone became the ultimate frustration. I wore hearing aids for 25 years at least and eventually they did next to nothing for me. I now have bilateral cochlear implants and am able to understand over the phone with minimal effort. Still, it is frustrating when I take them off...

I'm actually comfortable taking my hearing aids out - I enjoy the peace and quiet, although the tinnitus is a little distracting at times. I always have my aids in at work, but I do find most people there make no effort to speak louder and/or clearer despite knowing about my hearing loss, and I find that both irritating and disappointing. I miss out on a lot of what is going on and just end up sitting in my own little bubble. Luckily I'm not paticularly sociable by nature, so it doesn't affect me as much as it may someone who is.

I understand. There are a lot of advantages of our hearing loss too. For example, sometimes I just don’t want to hear things and the hearing community has to hear. That makes them frustrated, lol.
Because I believe in Jesus Finnish work on the cross, I know I have eternity ahead of me with a perfect new Body and no flaws. That something I am looking forward too. Hope you’re a believer too, this life is just for a moment in comparison.
