- Ever had a few irritating strands of your Erhu bow hair loose such that it dangles away from the main bunch? The most directly way would be to cut it away or even pull it out, but in doing it might pull out even more hairs.
In this latest episode of EMTV, we share an age-old method that is used to solve this problem.

This is genius! I had one single bow hair that was loose, and it was SO cool how it just raised back up! It felt like magic, haha. Thanks so much for this video.
It's not just you, Carden. Our new employee who first saw this first hand were utterly amazed too! Learning new things everyday :)
Oh my god thank you so much, I bought a violin in 1st grade, barely ever touched it, still brand new, somehow the bow hair got loose and I tried the lighter trick and just wow. I'm so happy.
After spending hours rosining and re-rosining and trying to figure out why my (new, and cheap) bow sounded so inconsistent, I stumbled across this video and it was so helpful. I didn't realize that the hairs were getting crossed due to some being longer/looser, which is so obvious now but I'm totally new to the erhu and bowed instruments that I didn't even think about it. I was able to fix the longer hairs with the lighter method and now it at least sounds consistent so I can resume practicing. Thank you :)
happykitten glad we could help! Do approach us if you have anymore questions regarding erhu. Do check out the other videos as well :)
Me theory is that the exposure to heat actually causes a chemical reaction within the bow string itself causing it to shrink. therefore, the slack is removed as a result. Of course a potential issue with this is that it might cause the bow strings to become weaker as a result.
I just tried this and it worked. You guys are great! AMAZING WORK!!!
Thank you! Very helpful.
My violin bow also has this problem, so thank you for this video!!
Thank you so much.
This was helpful.
Thank you
I've looked everywhere, but I have never found a video (or any other information) on how to tension the erhu bow so that it's not too loose or too tight.
Will you guys do a video on how to mic the Erhu...
Thanku so much 🤗
Just got my first violin for xmas and the strings came loose!! (Like they already were) so this was FANTASTIC
TheBad Mime it’s not even Christmas and if the strings came loose you just need to tighten them. This video also has nothing to do with strings.
@@johncapodilupo6876 "how to fix loose bow strings" -.- hrrrmmmm and everyone celebrates at different times. Ever go out to your extended family before xmas and do gift exchanges then? But you get 5 stars for trying.
thank you very much!! can you also make a video how to raise new bow hair of a beiing- bow (i guess...)? I cannot find anything to this! thanks!
Hi there, Jules! Thank you for the comment. Could we request for more clarification on this request? :)
hi.. do you have any video about changing the old hair (re-hair) the bow with the new hair set using the same bow stick?
Hi! We don't usually re-hair erhu bows cos it might end up costing more than a new one.
@@EasonMusic oke.. thank you for the answer
Thanks that's help me too much ❤️
We're glad! Becareful to not burn the bow hair!
@@EasonMusic Thank you .I am just a beginner so I just got panic when it is happened but for you I have got relief . So thank you again☺️☺️❤️
I have been considering buying an Erhu for many months now and the only thing keeping me from confidently buying one is the lack of erhu management/repair shops here. Since I live near the middle of the US it's very rare to see any foreign instruments nor any businesses that specialise in those instruments, so I'm concerned about how little options I have if something happens to the erhu. Any ideas or recommendations on what I should do? Also I love your videos and I know they will help me plenty when I finally make the purchase! :3
This is very relieving to hear! I do have one more question, does a bow come with the erhu or will I have to purchase it separately?
Thank you for the reassurance. I know you wont let me down :3

I was skeptical at first, but damn this lighter trick worked like magic. Now im gonna be carrying a lighter in my violin case.
I play violin and my bow hairs accidentally became lose, Is this applicable of violin?
Im actually scared to to it...
Hi I tried this but it's keep on loosening after playing violin
What do I do if a hair is hanging off the bow?
Hi there! If you watch the video, you'll see that there's a simple method to save your bow hair. Remember to not hold it so close to the fire!
Another way is to just pluck it off :)
What if it’s loose on the outer string part of the bow
Tan Sung Wah thanks

Emmon Jamin! Do you mean the hair
Hairdryer is much better
I did it by lighting a candle . It is now ok. But even after applying rosin , the bow hair slips on string , not producing sound . Why?
It was hard for me to understand because I’m not use to the accent 😭
I think the english here is actually the easiest to understand from a chinese speaker, but then it's from Singapore where english is an official language.
