  • Hello! I have been having a problem where my Dakota, When I started it. It would rev up then back down to about 200 rpm then just shut off. This is due to a bad or real dirt IAC (Idle Air Control) Or atleast in my case it was. So Instead of buying a new one. We cleaned it off with Brake cleaner and cleaned out the hole it came from. They were FILTHY!!! But after that It started right up every time and never shut off! You can buy these at Autozone for about $45 but I recommend you clean them yourself and try it. Good Luck!

Thanks so much for the video! Sure enough, O2 sensor was black and filthy, ran out of Brake Cleaner (had to use what I had, used WD40 and soft steel brush to clean) reassembled, took a few minutes to clear out but after constant shutting off at idle it is running great now. Will report back if any other problems arise, but thanks a lot buddy... you saved me today. Will definitely pass the good karma when I can...

If you have over a hundred thousand miles on your motor in the Dodge Dakota 3.9L or any other motor that they come with. The throttle body should be taken off and cleaned really good. I had taken my throttle body off and cleaned it really good and replaced the
IAC, throttle position sensor, and map sensor. Now that 2001 Dodge Dakota 3.9L runs like a different truck.

I know this is pretty late. The catalytic converter was plugged in mine. I drilled a couple of holes in it first because I was going to take it off anyway. That in itself fixed the problem. I did cut it out and replaced it with a flexible pipe. It's just a golf course truck so not on the road much just got tired of it leaving me stranded out there. I tried the IAC and numerous other things to no avail. Good luck.

My IACV will actuate when truck is off. Voltmeter verified it's pulsing rhythmically. That particular harness goes right to the PCM. My truck never high idles anymore. I've bought several, cleaned TB etc etc. Here's some fun as well, when my truck would first begin to randomly stall it was the throttle body gasket - it had separated into several pieces. I've since solved everything except for why my IACV is having issues.

Two, the Crank Shaft Position Sensor. I'm not a mechanic, don't know if it's the same replacement part, but that's what I know for what I've heard. Yesterday on Dic 14-2021, my Dakota, 1998, 2.5 L, suddenly left me in the middle of the road (all the cars honked at me, yelling, bad words, etc,) . The engine turn off. I had to wait 20 minutes to start the engine again. Right now my mechanic is working on it. Bogota, Colombia. Greetings.

Hey man, thanks for the video seriously appreciative. I cleaned it up, reset the PCM and it hasn’t stalled since! On another note, your decal is tasteless but at least consistent with your political affiliation ;)

@@01CumminsWelder wow, thanks for the reply, but my comment was ment for everybody but you, i noticed lots of people asking you for help but would only give the shortest 5 word discription of the issue, wich some were quite lame, so ya, was just tryn to help you help others because your video did indeed help me, so i thank you, and best of luck to you

6.7CumminsWelder people are fucking assholes man especially here on the internet where hiding behind a keyboard inspires them to say infinitely more than they’d ever possess the balls to speak up and say in the flesh. This video saved me hundreds by providing a DIY solution that is easy to follow and explains well the problem and how to solve it for everyday drivers with very little to absolutely zero mechanical background and know how. Perfect video if only id have found it 24 hours ago before spending 6 hours broken down praying for the damn thing to crank! Cheers
