  • My Durango shuts down randomly for no reason. I've replaced the IAC and the PCM and the problem keeps happening but now I get code P0505 when it happens. I've read forums and it's pretty common. I'm afraid of replacing all the parts that don't fix the problem $$$ Can anyone help?

Mine just started this as well, I can tell all of you who keep repeating they have replaced the ecm several times, your crazy. Thats not the issue. If you would read the manual it tells of 6 different issues that could be happening when the no bus appears, crank sensor, cam sensor, map sensor, throttle position sensor, governor position sensor (transmission), and then the ECM. All of those sensors relay a 5 volt signal to the ecm, and if they are grounded (bad or shorted) it will not allow the ecm to read and will not read correctly causing no start.

In your fuse box is an "Auto Shutdown Relay." Swap it out with the AC relay next to it. If the problem goes away (heat related), replace that relay with a new one.

If it stays running with gas and brake pressed, it may be an idle control motor, connector or wiring issue. ECM while common, are usually easy to test by tapping on the case and wiggling connectors to either cause, or stop the problem.

my 1999 5.9L did the exact same thing. I had it in the shop replaced starter and ECM . the new computer was faulty had to send it back and get another one. Was running fine but now I have an erratic idle so I replaced the air idle control valve and the throttle control module ( I think that's what it is called. ) so far running fine no check engine light no stalling. hope this is it finally.

123014: that same problem happened to me. I just purchased the model and year durango you have. in the driver side fuse box, check that all connectors are in, until they click. your anti-theft system may be becoming activated intermittently. hope this helps

I have a 1999 Durango 5.2 and it's doing the same thing. But it happens when the temp is hot or cold outside either way?! I was thinking it might have to do with the fuel system? I see it could be a number of reasons though.

Yeah mine is a 2000 and got in 2007 drove for 9 years before it did the dieing thing. mechanic has had 4 months and replaced computer, IAC valve, battery, fuel pump, valve cover gasket, upper radiator hose and has fixed corrosion and ground issues and several other things and still can't figure out. weird I drove 9 years before this user started. love my truck so hope it gets fixed!!!

Check the Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor. I hear that causes these symptoms.

Another thing is the throttle body gets gunked up pull off the intake and look inside if it's gunked up I used carb cleaner and a rag and cleaned it out and while running gave it throttle and sprayed down inside to clean more

It's the ecm it is a common problem so change that and you'll be in good shape! hope this helps

Update....the Check Engine Light Code was P0753 which has something to do with the Shift Solenoid. Makes sense because the transmission does go into limp mode and it is leaking tranny fluid so thats a problem too. I have no idea if that is related to it shutting off. I returned the PCM and put my old one back in. I'm going to try checking the wiring harness for a short somewhere.

This happened to me, got a 2001 dodge durango. It first had problems when I drove from where I live to pick up my brother (about 50 mins away) and when I got to his house, my car was over heated BAD. That was the first problem I've had with it in 2 years. Now it's common almost to shut off while I'm at a stop for too long or something. It's frustrating and I'm about to.probably sell my car because honestly I don't know anything about cars. And the mechanics in my area are quite questionable.

My 98 dodge durango just started having gauge problems. They work fine but after driving about half an hour all the gauge lights come on and the needles drop out for a couple minutes and then just goes back to normal. The truck runs fine though. The air bag light remains on all the time. The low gas chimes when they all light up too. Does anyone know what the fix is for this? Don't know much about electrical and would be nice to have some pointers in the right direction. Thanks

It’s the air control sensor, happened to mine, it’s very simple and will work right away after.

I have a 1999 Durango as well, I had the exact same thing on hot days it would die and then restart after about 15 minutes . I had it in the shop the first time they thought it was a bad wire connection. but after one day having it back from the shop it died again. this time I saw a code pop up saying no bus , it's in the shop again and we are replacing the main ECU.
