That's a Mopar M1 2BBL intake with a factory throttle body and fuel rails, so there's not really anything THAT racy on there externally. It appears to be factory cast iron heads, too, but I can't get a great look at that to confirm. The Spintech headers are using port plates so it's definitely the factory port layout. That said, buy a factory 5.9L for $200 for the junkyard and throw the M1 on it and this truck would be back in business and not really any appreciable amount slower than it is now.

    • @nitroram33
      @nitroram33 Před 2 měsíci +3

@@mickeyfox5 I've had a 2BBL M1, 4BBL M1 (with adapter and 55mm F&B TB) and a kegger on my trucks. A kegger with the belly pan plate fixed is fine for stock 5.9Ls as the cams are tiny and there's no compression. I was getting north of 20MPG (on 93, though) in my '98 CC with a Mopar R/T+10 cam, 1.7 rockers, and the 4BBL M1/F&B combo on a FlyinRyan tune before that engine got pulled to go into another R/T. The bottom end loss on the 4BBL is greatly exaggerated, especially with any sort of cam upgrade.

A friend of mine bought one little Mercedes van for cheap that wasn't running and a few shops had worked on it so a lot of new parts mounted but still not running..... I suggested looking in the fueltank as it was low on fuelpressure and acting "starwed" and it was full of "dieselfunghus". Once cleaned of that muck it did run and turned out to be a good buy.
Still a very bad performance of the shops that worked on it to not find such a easy fault, it is quite a common problem here in Sweden with our bad fuels. ☹️

ALWAYS See a car before buying it !!! I THOUGHT I bought a deal of the century for $7,500 "Buy it Now" for my 50th, SITE UNSEEN! I was safe cause of the Ebay Money back Guarantee My wife said "You want it, you deserve it for your birthday!" so I did it! 1970 Nova YENKO edition, Candy apple Red with Black interior with the White Yenko seat treatment inside, off Ebay but was enticing me by an upgrade like a "Corvette 5.7 and a 5 Speed" Looked soooo good in those pictures. I immediately paid for it, then called the guy. He said "You can't buy that car, it's already sold last night!" I freaked, but he assured me I'd get my $ back. He was actually represented by a dealer who was reputable, and I called the Dealer and he was all apologetic and even gave me $100 for the issue. I thought no sweat always another. About a month later, the Dealer called me and said if I still wanted the car, a guy about 5 hrs away in a little town, with a wife and 2 little ones. He was the one who bought it the day before. Sadly he had sold his PERFECT 1970 Nova for the same $7,500 two years before cause of hard times. Now cause he had some cash save up, this was to be his replacement.
I met him and he showed me the car. It was a total gutpile! A Mud Bucket waving at you going down the road! The Black interior was originally green and painted over black and would scratch off with fingernail, The carpet was cheap auto carpet from a Building store NOT Custom. The engine had HUGE Misfires and backfires. 5th gear was popping out. The suspension was SHOT! There was Mud dust throughout!!! He said he'd take whatever I would pay within reason.
The Dealer got screwed too... He told me that sadly for him, he cut a deal with the guy the day before I bid, and by going around EBAY's Buyer Protection, the buyer had no recourse, and l the Dealer got screwed out of his commission too.
There was NOTHING the dealer could do, and could you blame him if he could do something, he didn't? They went behind his back!

Considering the engine is a magnum engine, one option if the engine has to be torn down again is a 408 stroker. I do recall reading comments in the forums on these kits that it unlocks a lot of power with these engines. It is just a stroker kit, but you can also machine the cylinders for more displacement. It depends on how much money the customer wants to put into this truck. Now it is getting harder and harder to find one that isn't all rusted or beat up as these trucks are now 20-plus years old.

I’m really surprised at how confused the wizard shop is, over a simple build like this. Any reputable shop can look at the cam #’s, figure out required spring lift, verify heads have right springs (which almost all aftermarket heads come with some high lift springs), toss a short block into it, and be done with it. I’d be more worried about what kind of shape the transmission is in, with the added power and miles.
Not sure why you blew this up like it’s some monstrous issue. It’s literally a short block swap and sending in the old as a core. You really made this video sound like you’re an oil change shop, troubleshooting an engine.

Further the engine has been tuned, meaning the software running the engine is unknown and they don't have the equipment or expertise in dealing with that issue. I just bought an 03 Durango with the 5.9. Old first Gen Dakotas and Durangos are starting to gain popularity. Mine had 133,000 on it when I got it. Its hard to find them with that low a mileage. Most I was seeing were 200,000 miles plus in the 2500 dollar price range. I had wanted one with the 5.2 because I knew the 360 just isn't as Durable and the performance difference is hardly noticeable compared to the 318. Just none were available. The one I bought I travelled 70 miles to get and gave 2750 for it from a dealer. All things considered despite it going to need some repairs I think I did okay.
I am not against using race parts when they are in fact better than stock parts and are compatible with stock parts. The factory barrel intake manifold on the 360 are notorious for leaking. The 5.9 is also notorious for its thirst for gasoline. Switching the intake helps with both those issues. As you stated they are also notorious for cracking heads. If you have to change them why not to a head less likely to crack?
It's like on early Mopars they used nylon teeth timing gears and single chains. I'd always replace them with a steel gear double roller chain set for longevity.
So I disagree that seeing race parts on an engine is a bad thing. I also think your 10,000 dollar repair quote points more to shops gouging on repair prices than an honest and reputable quote. Just like the person who put it for auction without disclosing the issues was gouging.

The only thing that bothers me about racing parts on a daily driver, is the fact that usually means they have been raced.
I definitely understand what you are saying, and agree that I would do the same. But, if I'm buying something to drive as a daily, I would be scared to buy something ragged out.
My buddy bought a S-10 (think it was a '98). He didn't know anything about vehicles. I told him to let me go with him, but he went by himself anyway.
Well, when he pulled up, I immediately noticed a GMC grille, and a very non stock stance.
I said, "so you got a sanoma?"
      He no, it's an S10.
Turns out, it was both. Lol
It was definitely someone's drag truck. It still has the clamps for the nitrous in the back.
They had taken off the racing wheels and tires. It had basically rollers on it.
He kind of lucked out though. They had done A LOT of work to it, and it all pretty well done.
It had the 4.3 v6 with obvious motor work, racing suspension, a built 5 speed, traction bars, and a sweet sound system.
He asked why this light on his pillar kept flashing😅.
      It was a shift light.
That thing was pretty quick, and handled really well.
He drove it for about two years before the head gasket started leaking. He put some blue devil in it, and drove it for another year before he wrecked it.
It could have been really bad though.

I bought two vehicles on Ebay probably around 20 years ago now. One was a 78 Cadillac and I met the guy halfway (in the dark by then) to get it. That car had a lot of issues that weren't disclosed, but I didn't get totally screwed on the deal. I just learned a few lessons, one being that you shouldn't take delivery in the dark! The next was a Chevrolet ambulance, and I picked that up 700 miles from home and it was mostly as advertised, but also had a few surprises. I doubt I'd buy on line again, now that I'm older and wiser, and having had a sampling of what can go wrong. If I want the car bad enough, I'll pay someone to inspect it or go there myself before the auction ends. There's too many variables these days and even if the seller is being "honest", his/her version of condition may not match yours.

First off the appearance is gorgeous, I have a f8 green srt Durango so I love the paint job. I’ve had 2 1st generation durangos in the past, and I love those trucks. I think client needs to buy a 6.4 srt motor and there is a company that makes a plug and play setup to just connect motor to transmission on stand alone and it’s straight forward. Client would get performance and newer motor with great power.

Turns out the rear air suspension leaked and is shot, the sunroof leaks when it rains, and there’s oil getting in the coolant which turns it to mud.
