      Hey Thea, thanks for your comment and please don't worry - it's a really common issue. You must focus on the seated dive before you try diving from a standing position. This will get you used to keeping your chin tucked in and getting the right entry into the water. Only try diving from a standing position once you've mastered this! It may take time so you will need to patient - diving properly and safely can be tricky. Please keep in touch on this, let us know how you're progressing :)

    • @laeeqahmed1980
      @laeeqahmed1980 Před 6 lety +3

      Have you tried it? I mean you get into trouble when you are in water or its the confidence issue. If its a confidence issue, give it a try. As I see you can do the pencil dive from any height, then head first should not be a problem. Hold you both hands on top of your head. Bring them down to feet with slightly bent knees. Then think of a hole in water who have to go through and jump. Your hands go first in this hole, then top of your head(not face), the body and legs follow. If you able to swim deep into water and come up, it should not be a problem.

  • @evewren3542
    @evewren3542 Před 6 lety +4

    Quick tip: When you are jumping off higher diving boards, don't make your hands into a point like in this video. You should make them flat so that they hit the water and break it, instead of going through it, like with the point. If you watch Olympic divers, you will see that they do this. Hope this kind of made sense! :) Also, to reduce splash, you should spread your arms out when you have hit the water with them :D

  • @destinysmarquis
    @destinysmarquis Před 6 lety +5

    I have a technique to not be afraid of hitting the bottom of the pool and break or dislocate your legs.
    1- Make sure that you go to the REALLY DEEP end of the pool, so you have more chances to not hit your legs on the bottom.
    2-Make sure you breathe in and breathe out
    3- Make sure that the position you are in when you will dive is highly presented; meaning no arms in the air or legs spreaded, or else you would DEFINITLY get hurt.
    4- When you're about to jump in the water, make sure that everything is protected (Face,legs,stomach,back) and that you are Very far away from the edge, so that you won't hit your head.
    5-The most protected position of diving is the Cannonball; The second you jump in, transform into a ball. AND MAKE SURE YOUR HEAD IS INSIDE THE BALL, NOT OUTSIDE, OR YOU'LL GET HURT!
    And, how did i do it? I just screamed YOLO!!! And i jumped in, the pencil way, and didn't get hurt.
    Try the YOLO technique! It's fun! YOLO; You Only Live Once

      Thanks for your comment! Above all, be sure to dry your ears out thoroughly after swimming by shaking out any water and drying your ears carefully with a towel. You may also want to experiment with swimming ear plugs and/or a swimming cap do prevent water from entering your ears. Hope this helps!

      @SikanaEnglish  Před 7 lety +2

      Hi Leila, we do indeed still reply! Thanks very much for your question, you're certainly not alone in being scared. The key is to remember that your ribcage acts as a natural buoyancy aid- the air in your lungs will make you float up effortlessly to the surface. Take a look at our video on jumping into a pool for more information: bit.ly/2u3HLRl Hope this helps! Do let us know how you get on :)

    • @emilialily1130
      @emilialily1130 Před 6 lety

      Lianna I know that this isn't really recommended but try to keep your legs down as low as they go without it being a belly flop. This dive is a racing dive and you shouldn't sink anywhere near the bottom of the pool. If you don't like this idea, try a kneeling dive first. Go on your knees, then put one leg up on the side, like you're proposing and push off the wall while kind of falling in at the same time. Hope this helps

    • @basixxxmsp5382
      @basixxxmsp5382 Před 6 lety +2

      You will naturally float. It's okay. One time i went with my friend to go swimming. The hosts had a pool with a deep end of 10 ft and a diving board. Little by little my younger cousin helped me jump in at different depths of the pool. Then the diving board. It's fine. You only go down like 3 ft then you just swim up! It's fun and easy.

      Hi Grace, how is your swimming progressing? As a rule of thumb, water shouldn't be any less than 5 feet deep. We'd recommend trying out diving in water much deeper than this - especially if you are just starting out diving practice - to avoid risk of injury. Good luck, let us know how it goes! No I do diving this video doesn’t know what they’re talking about, you don’t dive with a swimming cap and goggles🤪. If your diving straight down and going very vertical, that’s good👍, you just need a deeper pool. My diving pool is usually 3m deep, good luck😉, and keep working to be a better diver.

      We try and answer every single question :) It's is very rare that you will get water into your ears if you dive with your chin tucked into your body when you enter the water. As for your nose, you could try to exhale as you enter the water to combat this problem. We hope that helps, let us know how it goes!

      Hi there! Thanks for your comment and don't worry, it's definitely not a stupid question - you are very brave for asking! We have a whole free video program on learning about swimming and overcoming a fear of water, you can watch it all for free right here: www.sikana.tv/en/sport/getting-comfortable-in-the-water
      To answer your questions then:
      1) If you jump in and hold your breath then the air in your lungs will help you float back up to the surface, but you can also kick and paddle to help you get up as well. You won't just keep sinking endlessly!
      2) You can definitely hold your nose while jumping in - some people do it to avoid water going up the nose. It is not recommended that you hold your nose while diving however.
      3) Once you've jumped in then the choice is totally yours! You can start swimming whenever you want. If it's for a swimmming race, you'll probably want to start swimming immediately.
      Hope that helps!
