Met Curt at his house a few months before he was hit. He was super nice, I packaged up my intake manifold for porting, and didn’t have time to ship it right away. Got a phone call and his wife said not to ship it. I already heard about the accident and couldn’t even talk. Said I was sorry and hung up.
I will need to change my timing belt. My evo 8 has 39k miles, but it’s 18 years old. This will help, thank you!

Thanks for sharing your Curt story. He won’t be forgotten for what he gave to the community for many years.
Nice low mileage on that Evo!

Nice closeups on where and how much rtv. I appreciate that. I visual is way better than the words 'just use a little bit right here and here.' So thanks for that.
Sounds like there's a story of getting kicked off the local track for running too fast against the locals who don't understand anything that doesn't have the characters V and 8 in it.........

Thanks again Whosdis Is. You know my story and have the banned paper hanging up in my trophy case. It’s early 2000’s and V8 with not even a roll bar runs a ten something at my local NHRA track and they patted his back. I run an 11.46 on street tires and they haul me into the tower. Lol! I call that a win!

This video is very handy. I still have to assemble the engine for my DSM. I had the bottom end redone stock from Colorado Cylinder head, the head built by heads by Drew, the trans, trans case, and fly wheel done by Jack's Transmission, FP turbo. Ohh i think i need a water pump as well.
Your videos that I just happened upon are inspirational for me to work on my car.

The talking would be cool. Especially the stories about the past for the newer generation that watches...or newbs to DSMs. There are many great past DSM stories to be told

Love the feedback Dan. Well I have a lot of stories to share and in that case might have to interview a few of the past heroes of the time as well. I have been considering doing so, I just wasn’t sure what the community wanted.

What were the steps to paint your cam gears? Like cleaning, primer, paint, etc? And also what kind of black paint did you use? VHT?

    • @SlippingTime
      @SlippingTime  Před 4 měsíci +2

Media blast with glass bead and paint with vht caliper gloss black paint. Tape off any mating parts like where the seals, cams, and belts go.

You are the the first person I've seen put a rtv silicone on bottom of cam caps.
You are doing a good job.
But I think manual don't recommend putting anything under the caps.
Now you just created another problem.
    your caps won't sit properly
And the cams will wear out un even.
Next cam caps will be in alot of stress.

The car in the video is not mine, but did belong to the late Curt Brown before the current owner.
