    Great video. Thanks. I enjoyed the discussion about "what is a dinghy?" While it's true, it should not have a cabin, a more practical definition for dinghy cruisers could be:- can be trailed behind a normal car and sailed within about 1 hour, and pulled up to a beach so you don't need another dinghy to get ashore. After all, we would all recognize a Paradox as a dinghy, but it's definitely got a lid. Anyway, the important thing is have fun afloat.

    Its been 20+ years since commercial fishing finished in the lake, back then the commercial
    fishermen kept the shark both the numbers and size low but in the years since both the size and numbers have grown. there was a great white with a crab pot ring caught around it head that's starting to cut into its body a couple of weeks ago there was a big (10ft) bull shark cruising around LMYC morings.

    Thoroughly enjoy your videos. Wish I could take part in your raids. Three mitigating factors being I’m 80, don’t have a boat and live on Melbourne. But there’s time yet!
    Some points of order. The “windows” in the side of a ship commonly referred to as portholes are more correctly called scuttles. The term port for the “left” side of a ship was only officially adopted in 1844 though it presumably had been widely used prior to this date. Previous to this the “left” side was called larboard. The potential confusion from the two similar sounding terms lead to the change.

That referred to voyages between Britain and India, not the Med, and it became associated with the P&O Line in particular. Hi, I've never done any offshore voyaging, which I'm sure is fun and scary. I'ver never had the time or the money. I just like to keep it simple and enjoy good camaraderie and campfire chat, thanks for watching, cheers Paul

    07:30 You and Trevor might be in technical violation of the definition of "dinghy", yet I don't think anyone could accuse either the Pathfinder (with cabin) or the Stornoway of being "yachts". I reckon so long as it lives on a trailer and can do the hike from Sydney behind a regular car (not on a flatbed lorry), you're golden!

      Thanks Luke....I am out to have fun and don't really pay too much attention to the critics. As long as you are in a small boat on the water that's good enough for me. Mark's Tri trailer 720 is trailerable. I would love to see the process of getting it onto a trailer...maybe a video? Thanks for watching, cheers Paul

    How much would these boats be?

    • @SailingKateLouise
      @SailingKateLouise  Před 4 měsíci

      Well how long is a piece of string? Depending on which boat and how old, condition of trailer, sails outboard etc. anywhere from free see czcams.com/video/ma5P6nynrfM/video.html to $25 K U.S. but the average price would be about $5K U.S. built yourself or $2.5K U.S second hand, but that is a very rough guide. If there is a specific boat let me know and I will find out, cheers Paul

      Just kidding 😎
      Rather, like your boat. I have no experience but am good at dreaming; I’m going to,look into building a small wooden boat, maybe 17’, in the classic... is the ‘gentleman’ style, with perhaps a lowere, more streamlined, more forward cabin (yes, whilst a certain amount of practical function is essential, I’m leaning more toward sacrificing function, though not safety and reliability, for style) in the Greek islands, on a very small budget; is that even plausible? Just ridiculous? I suspect so, but will look into it.

    If the shark was 10 feet between tail and dorsal fin it isn't a Bull Shark, that would be around 12 to 13 foot long and Bullies don't grow to that size, unless it was a freak of nature one off. Mate I think it's time you bit the bullet and got a petrol engine, I binged watched you through covid and noticed you were always being towed a fair bit by the petrol heads. Electric is is ok but if you need to be towed at all then it's time to reassess the situation. it doesn't seem practical.

    • @Cruising_Pamela_B
      @Cruising_Pamela_B Před rokem

      My paradox in the video has an electric outboard. It’s not the outboard itself but the battery and recharging capacity that limits an electric outboard. I have mine connected though a regulator to the 2 solar solar panels,and a 100 amp hour battery and I’ve had it running for 4 hours nonstop and only used 60% of the available power in the outboard battery. You couldn’t carry enough fuel to run a petrol outboard that long and even if you could you would have to stop and refuel maybe 6 or 7 times over 4 hours.
      It’s the best investment I’ve ever made - no noise, no stinking fuel can, no noise, starts first go every time, and pound for pound in weight it’s more powerful than a 2.3 Honda petrol outboard that came with the boat. Plus the freezer/fridge, dehumidifier, fan, iPad Navionics, stereo, VHF radio and lights all draw power out of the same system. I’ve been on the water 3 days and not used anywhere near the power capacity I have. Would never go back to petrol now. I know Paul is looking to maybe upgrade to a solar system.

      Hi Yes I've often thought the same...but I do like how light the electric is to lift in and out of the well. Another downside is I never really know how much juice I have left, so err on the side of caution and accept a tow when in company. When I'm by myself I try and sail, accept for getting onto the ramp as I don't have oars. Thanks for watching, cheers Paul
