  • SO MUCH BETTER! | POR 15 Applied to Floor Pans | 1963 F100
    POR 15 is an awesome product, that allows you to paint directly over rust, sealing it in, preventing further rust from spreading. POR 15 dries solid, and creates a moisture barrier, on top of the potentially surfaced rusted metal.
    Renew your floor pans, frame, bed, and so on, with POR 15.

  • @SpeedandChromeTV
    @SpeedandChromeTV Před 3 lety +5

    Make sure you clean the grooves out on the can before putting the lid back on or it won't ever come back off. POR15 is wonderful stuff, been using it for a long long time. I have a '62 F250 Unibody I'm working on as well.

    • @JakeHarrington
      @JakeHarrington  Před 3 lety

      I think the can is too destroyed to make a proper seal! I really had to crank that lid to get it off. Lol it may have been sitting for awhile, before I opened it.

    • @SpeedandChromeTV
      @SpeedandChromeTV Před 3 lety +4

      @@JakeHarrington A trick is to put a thin piece of plastic over the can before the lid, then you won't have to worry about it sealing up forever...

    • @JakeHarrington
      @JakeHarrington  Před 3 lety

      Never thought about that! Ill have to try that! This stuff definitely got extremely tacky! Great product, just a bit messy lol

    • @SpeedandChromeTV
      @SpeedandChromeTV Před 3 lety +3

      @@JakeHarrington Only take out what you want to use then seal up the can quickly. I use a sponge brush and that works well, and they are cheap. Also, it works very well with fiberglass mesh if you have some small holes, say in the floor pan that need to be covered. Put down some POR15, lay the mesh in and then paint over. Dries hard and will be there forever.

    • @JakeHarrington
      @JakeHarrington  Před 3 lety

      @@SpeedandChromeTV another great idea! It does dry really solid! Thankfully, I didnt have any hole in the floor pan. Just some pitting, but nothing all the way through! Great idea though! Did you have to do any step panel repairs?

    What about the metal prep etch?

  • @joshuathomas4934

    My cousin has an Acura rsx that had some bad rust 6 years ago. We wire wheeled the loose stuff off and used the metal prep. Than painted it on. It’s been 6 years in the north east of the USA daily driven and it hasn’t come off and the rust hasn’t come back. Result definitely may vary. You gotta attack the rust behind the repair. If you don’t. It gets out of control fast.

    • @JakeHarrington
      @JakeHarrington  Před 10 měsíci

      I agree 100%! You have to treat the rust regardless what method you use to prevent it. As long as you prep as much as you can, this will be a long lasting repair!

      The more the better, but this truck will be kept inside a barn while I have it! On exterior parts, you'd want to get more bare metal exposed!

    Make damn sure you wear a respirator and wrap around safety goggles when using this stuff !! I used it outside and applied with a brush to the undercarriage of my truck and afterwards my eyes were burning and I had a headache that lasted for 3 days ! The warnings on the box ARE REAL !!! I’ve also read where a few people had to go to the ER after using it ! Read the warnings on the box before using !!!

    Por Metal Ready spray works great, I put it on heavy, then put garbage bags or something over it to prevent evaporation. My tow hitch for the 68 was way too big, even with goggles and a 3m cartridge type expensive painters mask I was bothered with the fumes, need very small areas at a time.

      Most importantly to do the underside of the floor, bottom just like inside of fenders can rust through to the por side.

    • @JakeHarrington
      @JakeHarrington  Před 2 lety +1

      It is a great product! Just make sure to prep the surface. Get it all as clean as possible, remove any rust you can, and then apply the POR 15. When people negatively review this stuff, it's because they paint directly over rusted metal, without any other form of rust treatment.

  • @theungoliant9410

    Just bought a brand new truck here in Chicago. Its October 6th I'm about to put this clear POR-15 on the bottom of the truck. It's brand new so I'm assuming I don't need to etch it or sand it lightly or prime it etc?

    • @JakeHarrington
      @JakeHarrington  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey Tony! If the truck has a painted surface on the bottom, it would not hurt to paint this directly over the existing paint. Or POR also makes a rubberized undercoating that is pretty good as well!
