    Too all. Por15 does work. I had a 1967 cougar roof was shot and I do mean shot. Thin as paper also pin holes.. I used por15 instructions to the tee is important. Not only did it work. But it hardened that metal like I put another sheet of metal on it. Had 4 years after in the sun.. never failed.

    Here's a tip, when the por 15 is almost dry but still tacky dust it with primer. The primer will bond to it without interfering with drying.then spray full coat of primer when dry

    zinc primer is self etching. sand the rust off back to metal and apply. don't have to waste money on por15

    POR works best when it is applied directly to rust as the name implies (Paint Over Rust). POR works by encapsulating the existing rust and preventing further exposure to moisture. That's why it is used more for frames and under the carriage. A better product would have been a rust converter to account for any microscopic rust left after sanding. The converter won't also be a thick, durable coating like POR that can be sanded again.

    Interesting video, I guess it all depends on the final outcome and finish you want, but I think you will be sanding till your blue in the face to get that surface even close to flat again.Ive used some POR15 products on my truck frame, and for that its great. But I sprayed mine on and it came out super smooth. I would like to see the finish product when this is done, especially the part where you put those two pieces of trim back on. I cant see them fitting good, or at all with all that stuff in the channels where they go. But, in the end, its got to be better than when you started.

    • @wrenchbenders
      @wrenchbenders  Před rokem +5

      I put primer on it and put the trim back on with no problem. You are right, I will likely have to do some sanding when the time comes, but it is far better than the metal rusting through.

    good job but to be definitively efficient, you should put grease everywhere. grease is the only thing very efficient against rust. put grease between metal and carpet, inside door, behind metallic bumper, under the vehicle, behind the repairs you can make (everywhere inside the body - hidden erea - instead of using paint), hollow areas (necessarily hidden, so no need to be aesthetic). For rear wings unreachable with a paintbrush, use an extender and poor old oil everywhere each year. Rust almost always comes from the inside and welds. Handyman Experience - 35 years. From france

    I am not familiar with the entire prep, cleaner & POR product. I would guess the part of wiping the top down after sanding would have been a little boring but I though, the cleaner or prep looks gray, then it hit me, that must have the POR material itself you was brushing on? Duh! I have seen a couple of times but didn't know it even came in gray. Lean something all the time but thought I missed something. I hear it's tough as nails and a good choice to apply now for future repair as it would not be fun to replace the top's metal skin. Very interesting Ben! Thanks for sharing.

I'm getting quoted $2000 to $3000 for a new roof and $1000 to $1750 for a roof fix by a body shop in canadian dollars.... a bit silly considering it's a 2009....
