I was freakin out when he did it to Ashoka. Hayden is a master now.
He probably did it so much its like riding a bike.
He's not just a master. He's now the father.
Mace Windu wouldnt approve of that
@@diegotalksmonke I dont remember asking him a goddamn thing
I was like “ooooh there it is!”
*Hayden after seeing the stunt guys messing around with the lightsaber props*
“I’ll try spinning, That’s a good trick.”
That's right
Now that's podracing
I truly think Hayden was accidentally perfect for the role of Anakin. Him going into the cast wanting idle poses and light/heavy attacks like a video game was a perfectly fitting level od showmanship that made Anakin such a great character. I truly hope he knows how much Star Wars fans love him.
george chose him for a reason, there was no accident lol
He is truly our chosen one.
Original Star Wars fans didn’t like him 20 years ago. I always thought he perfect for the role.
Dude imagine a Star Wars game with For Honor's Art of War combat system...
@@HautePinkFluff nah, just people who dont know what realistic acting is, with shitty lines, but realistically written character.
By far one of the COOLEST Lightsaber moves in all of Star Wars. Hayden Is so awesome for that one.
He's the best in Star Wars
That sequence they do with Kenobi involving that move in the ROTS duel is one of the best moments in SW.
Also when he drops his lightsaber when fighting Dooku right before he steals Dooku's lightsaber. such a cool move too!
@@paralosrumberos0307 When is that? I dont remember him doing that.
Absolutely
Ewan: I tried to replicate Hayden's movement, but I couldn't.
Hayden: *YOU LACK CONVICTION MASTER!*
Well said 😀
It's also a spin move that makes sense; you can't hit Anakin in the back while he spins because he puts his lightsaber behind him, and since the movement is so fast, you don't know where to put your blade to block it.
Good point
I always saw is as a power move, He's so confident in himself that he can twirl it around and still kick yo ass
@@kn3236 I think both. Its both showing off his skill, but its also an effective move that is difficult to do.
@@flightlesslord2688 it's, not that difficult actually
I manage to do it in just 3 days as a slow learner :P
His move is justify, cocky but threaten you at the same time
Can we just appreciate the choreography of the prequel duels? It's like they perfectly choose the camera angles to complement each move. Rarely ever any awkward pauses, always moving. It's just really impressive and sorely missed I feel.
There is a saying: :always listen to your elders"(I think), the newer movies should take some notes from the prequels
Yes in ahsoka, everyone else is slower than he is with using the sabers. He retained his training ❤
Even if it's kinda over-coreographing, it is still leaps and bounds better than the sequel trilogy
In all Star Wars movies/series, I haven't seen anyone move so naturally with a lightsaber as Hayden does. He even came up with his own signature move.
While i agree with the sentiment, Hayden literally states in this video that he didn’t come up with it
Sysywr❤r
Imdeed❤r❤nr❤r
Ray Park is the undisputed master of the lightsaber. He was so good with staves that George Lucas created the double-bladed saber especially for Darth Maul.
It was so cool how much Hayden clearly outclassed all of the other performers in Ahsoka with his fight choreography. He really felt like the chosen one
This is definitely my favorite move. It is so awesome I had to learn to do it myself 😄
I mark out like a fangirl every time he does it xD
...and you'll be a jedi master 😀
Do it
Same
Sooooo many of the great lightsaber moves are credited to Nick Gillard, the fantastic stunt/saber coordinator for the prequels. I wonder if this one was his.
I think if it was Nick Gillard, Hayden would have said so.
They literally said hayden made it lol
@@austypebbles nah, he says he didn't in this clip. And then there's a different interview out there where Hayden clarifies that he saw a stunt performer practicing that move and that he took a liking to it. It's on the website enews and the clip is called "Inside Ewan McGregor & Hayden Christensen's Light Saber Fights"...I'm not seeing the clip on YT but it's out there.
@@austypebbles quite the opposite in fact
Hayden deserves all the love and accolades we can give him. He's worked very hard mastering his craft and I'm truly happy that he's had these opportunities to show everyone who he really is. I'm glad he didn't let negativity from the past, jade his future.
He's pure bliss to watch.
And it's actually canon accurate too. Anakin was one of the greatest warriors amongst the jedi. The lost battles against different duelists inspired him to mix different lightsaber combat styles AND make up his own moves to counter his main rivals like Dooku or Ventress. Later as Vader, he made up his own lightsaber form which protected the vulnerable parts of his suit, and also to confuse and overwhelm jedi.
I was giddy with excitement when I saw (what I think) was a Vader move in “Ashoka”. At the moment where his lightsaber locked in between Ahsokas blades, he pushed into it, breaking her defences with a… ‘You think you can stop me with that pathetic block?” …look.
@@swcsomeonewhocares8707 That was that one specific move he used in Rebels, again, against Ahsoka.
I’m so glad Disney is bringing back Hayden! He instantly improved Ashoka by like 90%
You can feel the Love for each other in that episode! Hayden really showed affection and an almost father figure for Ashoka! You could also see it in her eye's!
Lmao this is so true
Bro just comes out in ep5 n changes my perspective of the show😂
I’m just glad the hate he got is dying down. He really is a good actor. He deserved so much better of a career.
Thankfully, with all of the blunders, Disney has made every year when it comes to Star Wars. The prequel trilogy rises a little bit higher in peoples minds.
He's SO forceful with his saber skills in every movie and series he was SO good..and still is!
The end of the first fight with Ahsoka before he cut the ground he held her in a saber lock with one hand and literally just effortlessly pushed down on her like nothing to force her to break and back off. It's so subtle and minor but you can tell how powerful he was by such a little move that it made her break the lock and stumble back. DUDE IS SUCH A BEAST
For anyone who doesn’t know. This move is called the “Obi-Ani” spin. It’s a pretty cool move I’m practicing it myself.
Good for you. We'll done
@@SBNEnter thanks I learned to do it but I still got more practice before I can do it faster lol
Yes the obiani also known as the 'plum flower'
In real life it's a move used for a sword in Chinese Kung Fu/Wushu.
source?
I love Hayden as Anakin , so glad he’s getting love now and more projects
Hayden really dedicated to the role, I respect it. He saw the Form, and he proceeded to master it.
Makes me so happy Hayden finally getting the recognition he deserves. Love that dude.
I’ve said it many times over the years, even during times where the prequel hate was still heavy, but I’ll say it again, Hayden is the best physical actor in the franchise. He’s able to convey so much emotion with just his movement, expressions and posture.
On top of that he also put so much effort into the swordplay to the point where he actually stands out significantly as having a very unique fighting style compared to about everyone else, he has this very flashy and fast look that also manages to convey how hard he’s really hitting.
Compare that to the sequels and it’s like day and night. They all swing their sabers like they’re sledgehammers despite being almost weightless laser swords. The only one from that trilogy with a recognizable fighting style is Kylo Ren and that’s only because Adam Driver had a few flourishes to his swordplay somewhat mimicking Hayden which was probably an intentional homage to Anakin.
And it was so bittersweet seeing the hopeful, ever-expressive, and often fidgety Anakin knowing he would never be able to express himself like that again-until now.
I hate sand…
Agree! Except for the weightless laser sword part, lightsabers do have weight and balance. You also bond with your own lightsaber which makes it feel lighter, but the blade still has weight (as shown in Rebels, The Mandalorian, and I think a couple other places). Try spinning around just a hilt sometime, nearly impossible to do these moves (especially spins like this that use the momentum of the blade). Rant over😂
I was today years old when I found out Hayden was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan - there's something intrinsically beautiful about him practicing lightsaber choreography while wearing a Leafs hat.
Hayden is an excellent actor and a top swordsman.⚔️
It's an exceptionally Anakin move, incredibly aggressive as it forces your spinning lightsaber towards your opponent and creates a large amount of space to allow Anakin some room to go on the attack.
If I could do 10% of what Hayden can do with a lightsaber I'd be happy as hell. It wasn't until Kenobi and Ashoka that I realized how much I miss a good lightsaber duel/top tier fight choreography. Hayden and Ewan committed to learning how to effortlessly wield them and it still shows years later.
I think Hayden actually practiced his martial art in his free time because he found it fun and it could become usefull in another Star Wars movie or series
Very very nice !!!!
Hayden Christensen is A Great actor, a Great lightsaber choreographer and a GREAT person!!!!!
Yessssss master 😊
@@DarthRevan_1999 I am glad you agree !!!
God bless you!!!
This move is also seen in the Jedi Knight games (Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy) and was labeled the Heavy/Slow Kata. Basically, the Jedi becomes a forward moving buzz saw, with rear and side defense. May move slow, but hits like a death star to anyone in the path.
Hayden still has that awesome lightsaber twirl years later
Anakin has so much style and flare...that's all thanks to Hayden's performances.
"I'll try spinning, that's a good trick."
When I saw them about to dual I was thinking "OOOHHHHH Please do the that cool spin move" and he nailed it, so awesome to see again, I can never get enough of it.
I feel like anyone who practices the art of the sword whether it’s for training purposes or for a movie has a signature flourish that they discover and work on themselves. I came up with one when I was learning KenJutsu. It was nothing special but it was a move that was mine and I was proud of it
I freak out everytime I see him do that (that 5th episode of Ahsoka..man!!..still I can't!!) . Well he's the chosen one after all. GOAT is back with the most iconic move🙌.
When he always spins his saber like that it's always spins & blows our minds too
He really is the chosen one 😍🙌🏻
No doubt
People make fun of it but I think it's actual practical (as practical as a lightsaber battle can be haha). It protects your back as you switch sides to attack your enemy from the other side, catching them off guard.
I think he keep on training all this years
Hayden himself is a nerd
He's amazing
This is so freaking hard to do! My kids and I choreograph fights and the Obi-Ani spin eludes us. It's the YYZ of saber fighting. Hayden Christensen stands alone.
@stevelyman6917 - If you are interested, there is a stuntwoman on CZcams who teaches the Obi-Ani. Her name is Michelle Christa Smith.
When he pulled it off in Ahsoka it was so smooth and masterful. chills
That move is sooooo cool. And to be honest, this solidifies Hayden as Anakin forever as Anakin was the chosen one and known for his fierce light saber style. It makes sense that he could do it while no one else could.
im really hoping we get more hayden its been so long since the prequels and im so glad he's finally getting the attention he deserves in obiwan and in this
I do that spin myself too. Not only is Hayden good at what he does, but he’s also an inspiration.
I appreciate the way you made this video. Straight to the point! No rehashing the same information or over explaining stuff we know to feal time. Just facts one two three done! 💯 love it
Thank you. I appreciate it 🙏 👍
Cmon give this man at least a season. He deserve it!
Whe need the 'Darth Vader' TV show
The prequels lightsaber fights are always the best, especially Hayden's. Hayden is the one that really play his role the best in the entire franchise. Not just his movement or fighting skills, but also the way his expression of his emotions and thoughts.
He was and still be the best choice for this role
No doubt. He's amazing 👏
Yeah, this my favourite move from all lightsaber fights.
Ewan Mcgregor was finally able to do it too in the Obi Wan series, during the final battle between Obi Wan and Darth Vader.
Yeah but McGregor done it with left arm no right arm.
In the fan-made short, Scene 38 Reimagined, even Hayden's signature Anakin saber spin move was shown. Those guys know the fandom so well to copy Hayden's signature move.
I knew this. But I still loved how you explained and edited this to make the information enjoyable.
*GG*
Hayden is a blessing
10/10 move
Hayden is a 10/10 actor
what a great person !
Hella cool. It also reminds me of Geralt with his pirouettes :D
I always wanted to learn how to do it, and I did recently. I can't do it that fast since my saberforge saber is kind of heavy, but I can still do it.
That's cool
I’m assuming you’re sabre is back heavy like mine so if you’re interested I have a few tips that might help.
First if you can try lowering the position your hand grips the handle a little, it will probably feel awkward and unbalanced at first but with practice you can gain greater control.
Second if the blade part isn’t too long then you should be able to over emphasise the motions creating a greater arc during the spins, again a little uncomfortable to do at first but it should create greater momentum. It will be even slower when you do this at first but if you can get used to it you will be able to use that extra momentum and control to do the move faster.
Just a warning spinning anything that is oddly weighted and balanced can cause you to hurt your wrist or other parts of your body so try to follow the momentum direction and not fight against or control too much, don’t want you to get hurt by accident.
I hope this helps you and have fun with your blade 😁
@@SlideIX Tbh my blade is too long to do it faster, I think my grip on my hilt is good (It's on the sort of second grip under the emitter), but everything else I'll try out. Thank you !
On CZcams a 8 year old boy does this move to Darth Vader at Disney world, kid was badass
Yeah, I've seen it. The boy truly nailed that move.
Yeah, noticed it in the show and it was awesome to see again.
As others have said, its also an effective move. He covers the whole back quickly, and moves straight into an attack, the position of the blade also makes it less clear where said attack is coming from.
I'm glad to see the newer generations of Star Wars fans giving Hayden some love. When he made his Anakin debut people were seriously hating him. I always liked the character even though the movies weren't my favorites. His saber skills were one of the reasons I saw the movies.
It's a fun move. I incorporated it into my routine when I would practice escrima. You're already essentially twirling the kali stick anyhow so, it was an easy addition.
They are definitely the best lightsaber wielders in the star war series.
"It's a move that only Anakin and a cheerleader with a baton could pull off".
I feel like Hayden was slower on purpose in Ahsoka
Agree, the whole point was to make her fight to live
It takes two to tango
its so badass and smooth
As an experienced martial artist myself, both with and without weapons, I can just say again and again that Haydens performance is an absolute master class.
His weapon literally became a part of his body. He is not acting to be competent. He is just competent. And we are merely allowed to witness it.
...all of the current lightsabre companies..owe Hayden & Ewan a TON!
Very cool indeed and was so happy they brought him back in Ashoka 💖 Hope he'll be back for more in Ashoka this season ❤️🩷💖
I can perform this move. It's hard to train your wrist to bend like that, but it looks amazing once you master it.
I'm glad it's his favourite because it's mine as well
WAWM WAWM
-Hayden Christensen
It's one move that a lot of games that have Anakin don't really use - except one I can think of: the official Revenge of the Sith game. And that's because Hayden Christensen advised on the game IIRC and he made sure the move made it in.
Heh. I didn't even notice Hayden doing it in Attack of the Clones. When he did it in Revenge of the Sith, however, my jaw dropped. "What the fuck was that?! How is Obi-Wan keeping track of all of that?!" That was my reaction.
So it's basically :"i'll try spinning that's a good trick"
Yeah, that's how it actually was
I like how it always make the same noise when he does the move
Majority of the force users have signature lightsaber ignitions. Lukes is the one he did when he first faced Darth Vader, the step forward and swing lightsaber out. Vaders was the one where he's just standing there pointing his lightsaber downwards which slowly ignites. Dokus was the one where he swung Saber up and then pointed, and swung, downwards like a fencer (does this again Obiwan), Yodas was using the force to grab his from belt, and of course Obiwans is his very iconic finger point pose. But Anakin never really had a signature ignition himself. But finally we've established he has a signature move.
I would say that Anakin does have a signature ignition of sorts. He ignites in the first swing, bringing the blade out with the hilt already in motion, as befits his aggressive, powerful style.
There is a stuntwoman on CZcams that does the Obi-Ani. She used to teach it; I don’t know if she still is on CZcams or not. Her name is Michelle Christa Smith.
My favorite lightsaber move. I've been practicing it using Skywalker Legacy Lightsaber and my wooden rod lightsaber
He's the actual Anakin Skywalker.
The chosen one
In the Ahsoka series, his move was amazing !
Gosh, it’s so cool!!!
Yeah, indeed
Huh. Had no idea he originally did this in AOTC. Neat.
Cool video, subscribed! 👍
Thanks. I appreciate it
Makes sense. Youj can see it better in episode 3. Obi is stricking and with that spin Anakin blocks but he doesn't just stopped the hit but with the movement momentum he passes from defense to attack, which is where Anakin feels more confortable.
I actually remembered seeing a video of hayden talking learning that signiture move after seeing a stunt actor doing it.
Anakin "I'll try spinning, thats a good trick."
"I'll try spinning, that's a good trick!"
Expected nothing less from the chosen one💪🏾
Well said 👏
He's still got it
I use to twirl the lightsaber toys like that all the time as a kid
Oh, that's 👍
Wholesome
Hayden seeing a stunt man performing random moves: That's rad!
*Proceeds to build a whole new moveset from it.*
Anakin Skywalker the Chosen one from the Jedi Knights clan.
The good old Obi-Ani… love it
If you ask me, the best part about the sequels is that it made people stop shitting on the prequels and realize how fantastic they actually were. Especially when it came to the lightsaber action.
Love you Hayden. That signature move is the one bestest in star Wars.
Beast mode
LOVE IT WHEN HE DOES THAT !!
Yeah, he nailed it 👌
Best move ever
Very very interesting. I've never noticed it before 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️
Now you did 👌
master of spinning
Shout out to Stuntmens everywhere for creating such an iconic move
That combo popped off in the episode 3 game
He tried spinning that's a good trick
I learned how to do it in about 10 minutes, it's pretty strange to learn just from watching a video on it but once you figure out the wrist movements you basically got it down.
