I was positively surprised when listened to the Circle Paris Concert album in August 1991. Finally having the opportunity to see a video register of this wonderful music :) Thank you for posting this great video!
There are probably a good number of very young Chick fans who know little or nothing of this group.I would love to hear their reactions/responses.
This is my first time listening to this… wow. This is truly music. It gives a Frank Zappa vibe but way more sophisticated and each notes, chords, scales, sound… are well-thought of.
Good lord. I heard this band 45 years ago and never imagined I'd ever see them. Thanks for the experience.
Amazing band and improvisors and Barry Altschul is amazing!!!
Agreed, all the others are superstars, but haven't found much more of Barry Altschul playing. Like his minimalist, aggressive style.
agreed what an amazing band! Altschul is impressive indeed!
An absolute refreshing-challenging-movement for jazz...to see the mythical Chiros fly into the Sun
What a brilliant upload and performance. We are so lucky to be able to have and enjoy this material, and not as an audio file but as a video! I have spent hours upon hours, for many years, wondering how the band dressed and positioned themselves onstage. This footage has answered so many questions I have mentally accumulated over 100s of hours of intense listening to Circle.
How do you listen to circle? I can’t find much on them
@@gdavis9296 You mean from where do I source their material?
@@monsterjazzlicks yez
@@gdavis9296 Well Amazon digitally released two amazing recordings - Live In Germany and The Gathering. In addition to those there are some great documents on You Tube - Nefertiti and There Is No Greater Love etc. 😁
I always hoped this ensemble would reunite. But it’s so great to have this footage!
Braxton's clarinet is one of the most underrated horns in his arsenal. I wish he had spent more time with it on the later solo releases. The sound he gets out of the lower register, in particular, is delectable.
The only other bass clarinet player I have heard of (which doesn't mean much) is the great multi instrumentalist Eric Dolphy.
@@UUBrahman i think he's talking about ordinary Bb clarinet - I've never heard Braxton on bass clarinet, I think he doesn't play it while he often plays a double bass clarinet (Dolphy never did)
I agree about his clarinet playing
Your posts are always treasures....thank you.
Haven’t heard Circle in years. Cool…
Love this band.
Amazing skill on the piano .
As awesome today as it was 50 years ago! Thanks.
Perfect. Just perfect.
Amazing performance - the freedom!!! A very soothing french intro also.
Wow. The first video of Circle I've seen! Great find!
Thank you.🤗✌🏽Fantastic! Brilliant!
What a fantastic find! Thank you!
Had no idea there was any footage of this group!
Exciting
Allright!
This is the year I first saw him!!!
Thank yoooou so much 😎👁️✨
This is just incredible! Thanks so much!!!
Fearless, it seemed nothing was impossible.
Priceless! Thank you so much!!!!🙏🙏🙏
incredible upload
To say not everyone has the ability to do this is an understatement, isn't it? Not being able to play "out" is a disappointment for me, even after decades of playing. I hold their ability to interact and communicate in this undefined language in high regard. They blew my mind back then (actually, more like '75 or '76 when I found them) and they still do.
very clever statement - a lot of musician think that playing "out" is easy....
Chick Corea aurait eu 80 ans aujourd'hui, le 12 juin 2021.
Bon anniversaire Chick Corea !
n happy birthday le maestro chick, n he would have been 80 anu ,:-0
great find - I don´t like colorized movies, but with all these performances, it makes much more sense. keep them comong, please...
The virgin critic/reviewer: the angular and atonal interactions of the synthesizers build aleatory structures of fractured emotions, while aerial and anarchic drums decorate the surrounding space

There is a version of "There is No Greater Love" played by this band that I would like to find on CZcams, cannot find it.
Pensé en Schöemberg,Bartok,Xenaquis,Berio, etc.La verdad aquí se aproximan más a Cage, aunque este último acarrea en sí a todos los anteriores.
but this is not the actual recording that was issued on the ECM recording 2 record set. the original recording has one of my all time favorite jazz piano solo and my absolute favorite alto sex solo. it was an EXPLOSION. i think ECM has kept it off the internet because of copyright issues. they have every right, since ECM and Manfred Eicher were great! but its a shame.
You are right, it's not the same recording, but was recorded on the same day. There were two sets on this day.
Alguien me puede explicar que tipo jazz es es un espectáculo.
Avant garde jazz according to wikipedia.
Merci n merci 2 chick ,:-0

If Chick hadn't gone fishing with "fusion"?
Was this released on an album?
It was recorded at the same place as the Paris concert (which was broadcast on radio), but it's definitely not the same. According to the discography you can find here jazzdiscography.com/Artists/Corea/circle-disc.php this concert was not released on album.
@@ebjazz93 - Very interesting. I will watch this tonight. I have adored the Paris concert for 30+ years!

Interesting experimental sounds, but who in the world would ever want to listen to this stuff for enjoyment? The great jazz men of the past would say it's all pretentious nonsense.
louis armstrong called bebop 'chinese music'. john coltrane, fully steeped in that 'chinese music', took inspiration from what was coming up around him and took the leap. make up your own mind about it...
lohn lewis, gunther schuller, gil evans, sonny rollins, jim hall, max roach keith jarrett and others, all saw the value of this 'pretentious nonsense'...
these are the great jazz men of the past
This is avant garde acoustic minimalist aggressive free bebop, and musically to me, it is not for kiddies, it is for all grown up now. My impression most people just don't "get" Anthony Braxton and to me he is the major influence here - he pushes boundaries and explores.
@@UUBrahman Really?
I just discovered anthony braxton while hanging out on youtube. I then did some research on him. In my opinion, he is certainly the biggest crook in the history of jazz. It's totally amazing that he could have such a career in the music world and have such academic positions. I mean, what is going on with the listeners, the media and the jazz community that they want us to believe that this guy is a genius? Everything about him is a problem: his instrumental technique is close to zero, his music itself sounds like a beginner's band, his gibberish discourse about his music means absolutely nothing, but also his interviews in which he comes across as a pretentious old bigot. Please, retire and let the real artists play.

Braxton is a tough one for me....on the one hand, I've never heard him play the sort of licks/textures that Liebman, Berg, Brecker, and Potter are known for....and, a lot of his playing has a stilted effect, which seems like he doesnt really have control over his legato. On the other, I heard one thing with him on alto, that was super-sonic in a way, SUPER growly, beyond anything IVE heard on alto, but I dont seek out alto sax music.
Hey super musical brain!. I want to know about your technique! How is your way of making music or how you compose or how is your musical perception. Where can I find your work? Please surprise me!. Surely you are a special and superior entity. Have you just discovered Braxton and already know a lot about music? You are simply a silly.

@@FERNAN_MARZCE Hey super musical brain! Everyone has the right to have an opinion on music, food, sax, art, and that regardless of their field of profession! You are simply an idiot.
I wonder if Altschul is playing the flat ride Roy Haynes gave to Chick Corea?
Probably. Chick said that ride was his favorite cymbal and that he always tried to convince the drummers he played with between the late 60s and early 70s (Altschul, Airto and Haynes) to use it!
