No illusion in this magic. Having been in this groups company for one evening around this same period opened me up to a whole new way of engaging life and a path to exploring all soundscapes as expressions of freedom.❤️
I was 14 in 74 I knew my Band directors hero Chick played often with this ensemble and Holland had played with Miles and Chick. This tonal rhythmic freedom seemed so important I had to take it seriously at 14. The year I had been exposed to Bernstein on about Schoenberg and Berg and Stravinsky's poly tonality it was challenging in a way that's totally ignored by the players today it seems. It's not 1953. No schools outside of Europe address this important phase.
Is Dave Holland even human?!!? His playing is beyond human....
Never thought I'd see this live!!
as a non musician - the way they listen to each other and then come together at the end - wow.
What a privilege to be able to see this, thank you ❤

Wow. Thanks for sharing this. What a group!!
Thanks for this
I'm not so sure that it is Dave Hollands band but rather Anthony Braxtons?
I was there but I don't remember for sure how the 4tet was announced. But Q&A is from Holland's ECM album released the previous year 'Conference of the BIrds', with the same line-up including Sam Rivers, that Braxton never gathered himself *... and BTW, it was a great night, with Paul Bley & NHOP before the 4tet and Gil Evans with his 16 musicians orchestra after ;-)

@@Eifila - In that case it may have been Holland's band.
@@Eifila Q&A is also on a couple of Corea's Circle albums. The Song Of Singing and Paris Concert, I think?
Indeed, but in Circle's Paris concert * only. Holland recorded it again a few years ago:

* tremendous night too (an old timer, unfortunately, now, I was there as well :-)
@@Eifila You were at the Paris Concert??!!
