- A great moment from 'Penn & Teller - Magic and Mystery Tour (2005)' where Teller speaks about his enjoyment at being tricked by some 'magician's magic'. Teller is very gifted at slight of hand and it must have been nice for him to have been surprised by the outcome of a trick for once...
(I apologise if this is in anyway an infringement of copyright. If you enjoy the clip and want to see more, go buy the Penn & Teller - Magic and Mystery Tour DVD) - Zábava
The most amazing thing about this video was to hear Teller to talk.
Minkki82 What joke? Teller never talks, its amazing to hear him talk. Sure its an unoriginal comment, but not a joke by any means. You need a dictionary.
Teller speaks and gets fooled, that's not real Teller.
Fisher Sam Fisher can he still speak??!?!
I agree😅😍
To the layman, the enjoyment in magic comes from that moment where the brain goes "HUH?" And Teller usually can't experience that because he knows the moves so well that there's no "huh?" factor for him. There's no mystery or wonder.
But in this case, the other guy used Teller's experience against him and for a moment created for him that sense of wonder that WE usually get from watching magic. And that's what made Teller so happy. It's a true gift from one magician to another.
His voice is so soothing
zet true
If you look at 34 seconds in and watch closely, you can see him pick up the ball with his pinky and ring finger and then slide it back under the cup very quickly. The pick up is obvious, putting it back is lightning fast.
That's a lot of talent.
his voice is so unexpected with his looks...
His voice is amazing!
He developed his voice by never talking.
+Elite7555 XD haha
+TheBrabon1 That's incorrect. Teller has said he doesn't speak when performing because he believes it's HONEST to let your magic do the talking for you.
Except that, if you've ever gone to see Penn & Teller in Vegas and stayed for the post-show meet & greet, you know that Teller will talk to everyone as they meet each other; not really much of an illusion when he's "breaking character" immediately after every live performance.
Not gonna lie, I expected him to sound like Donald Duck. :p
Lol I bet all the spectators were thinking "well, that was lame. What is Teller so excited about?"
...and no one else in the room understood why Teller was so amazed to see exactly what they expected to see... That is so funny!
0:32 You can see him mimicking the sleights that fooled Teller. He actually does steal the ball but then immediately reinserts it back under the cup. Brilliant moves.
Damn, the egyptian guy probably didn't even know that teller was playing a role of a sucker and so he seemed kinda disappointed that teller guessed the location of balls lol
+Fahri Aslanov thats what i thougt too , he wants to be kind and playing a dumbass .....the guy was sure disappointed , and teller was sure a bit surprised and disappointed too , because he was sure that there are all in the middle and hit the right number accidently
i think the egyptian was intentionally doing the "magic trick for a magician" whereas Teller thought it will be a magic trick for ordinary people. Teller played the role of a sucker _from an ordinary audience._ it was a misunderstanding. though from Teller's cheerful reaction at the end of the trick i think the egyptian understood what happened eventually.
The Egyptian knows who Teller is and wanted to 1up Teller by using Teller's knowledge and still fooling him but Teller played the role of the sucker and let the magician down.
Teller overcompensated later on patting the guy and laughing..
And he also decided to put this part in the MMT video.
Because, he rarely talks in these MMT videos, either
I love Teller's voice - but I love how he has learned to communicate so much, so effectively, without saying a word. Overall it makes him twice as nice.
I love Teller so much I swear
Don't swear, god doesn't like it.
You're both disturbed.
"SWEAR TO ME"

I love this moment, listening to Teller talk about what is kind of an "insider's joy" - *Every* master of something, can or will have a moment of lethargy, familiarity, monotony, etc. that takes away, finds missing, decreases or does something to the joy or feeling or the thing which pulled them into becoming a provider of what they later master. To be able to give that back, to play those expectations around is to give the master back some humanity and bring him with joy, back to light/life.
Teller was trying to play dumb and knew he was "supposed" to be wrong. But he wasn't expecting to be right. So guessing correctly actually surprised him. That actually speaks volumes to that Egyptian magician. So clever. It looks like Penn got a kick out of it, too.
I always have a big smile on my face throughout the video every time i watch it. Just watching him talk, like this, all close up.. Ahh jus :') man. Penn & Teller are my idols.
I met him and Penn in Vegas a while back. After their show they wait in the lobby to give autographs and photos to anyone who asks. Both are extremely nice and Teller speaks the whole time; his voice is really pleasant to listen to in real life.
Honestly, first time I've heard Teller talk... yay, I feel special!!!
Whats really crazy and what really gets me is this. If you are watching as a spectator and know who he is you would assume that he knew it was 1 1 1 because of who he is. In reality it was 1 1 1 because of who he is but not for the reason we assume which is amazing because in the end you never know what is really happening.
I love Teller! What an awesome magician and person and what an awesome voice!
Teller writes amazing essays, and use to recite them on NPR occasionally. He has an amazing expressive voice when telling a story.
For 15 years i thought Teller was mute. I'm just blown away now. You could say im speechless.
This was my favourite bit of the whole series. This sums up a lot about Teller and it's lovely to see both wonder and prowess spring from one man.
must be pretty awesome to do magic on a top level like those guys for so long and get fooled, you can probably fall out of love with magic doing it so long but being fooled brings it back
Teller talks! It's the greatest magic I ever seen!!
it seriously feels like listening to the words of a master
What the fucking hell are you all talking about Teller talking for? I was hoping to find some discussion on what the video was actually about.
The fact that Teller got fooled. I found it very interesting, and an intriguing side of magic, to fool a magician in such a way that anyone else would not be fooled (in that they would think the balls remained under their cups the entire time).
I got to listen to him speak for the first time in my life in Vegas after getting VIP tickets at the Rio show. I was taken back by the fact that he spoke in front of me and just felt like I heard a long gone close relative speak again, it was that kind of feeling.
Im in love with Teller!
Teller is a very interesting person to listen to. Went to a P&T show in London last year where they were interviewed on stage and performed a few tricks as well. Got my picture taken with Teller after the show as well, really nice and friendly guy, made sure he got pictures with every single person in the crowd.
This was a beautiful insight into the minds of these two men.
I went to a Penn & Teller show in Vegas in 2008, and Teller spoke to me afterward and I was floored by how nice and soft-spoken he was. Also, Penn is a giant in comparison, as I'm only 5'5" and he's 6'6".
yeah, he acts like a little child on stage. It's actually adorable!
teller's voice completely took me in
Teller has an awesome voice. I have like double the respect for him just after hearing him
I was thinking about this the other day. The magician probably thought, "oh man, I sure underestimated this guy! He saw the trick!" But really, he didn't underestimate him. Teller didn't see the trick! He thought all three were in the middle, as intended, but played the role of the spectator to be nice! I hope the two of them spoke afterwards so they could get it all sorted out. The guy deserves mad props for fooling Teller.
I love how when he talks and is out of character, he just appears like this ordinary guy (which, to a degree, he is) yet while viewing the trick you can see he is the character of Teller. I loved the trick too and the response with the explanation, real fascinating to watch.
First time I've listened to his voice after so many years, wow
After listen to Teller speak, my life is now completed.
I've heard tellers voice...... NOW I GOT NOTHING MORE TO LIVE FOR!
Holy shit, I finally get to hear him talk. And damn... that's a bassy voice he got there. I definitely wasn't expecting that. LOL
I'd love to know who did the excellent dubbing job on this... because we all know Teller doesn't speak.
Right guys!? RIGHT!?
***** You don't get sarcasm...
+Armida NEVER! SARCASM KILLED MY FATHER AND RAKED MY LAWN!
it was horrible Tomoko Kuroki
he can talk.
Teller doesn't speak while he is performing
Not a magician myself, but I really get how impressed he was.
Great video! Just seeing Teller talk... and just be so natural... Penn too. Whoa, these two are regular humans, like the rest of us? Good stuff. Nice to see those willing to be themselves.
I was in vegas a couple years back at the Penn & Teller show watching Penn on stage talking, when I feel a tap on my shoulder, and it's Teller asking me to pass books down the row! It was awesome lol
Behold! Teller is talking! This the first time I heard his voice and it's soothing... baritone. Loe to hear that everytime.
That was fucking class :D You can see he looks so disinterested, and yet tries to palm the balls with such effortless grace, only to have the cups block them at the last second. Pure. Fucking. Class.
wow.. bring back the love
FIRST TIME EVER THAT I HAVE HEARD TELLER SPEAK!!!!
This was awsome, thanks for the upload!!
It's so cute to see them this casual.
A magician feinting a slight to fool another magician. Brilliant.
Oh man, I wasn't expecting the voice. Some stuff you can't unheard. 👍
Teller's voice is amazing
Gotta give that guy some real credit. Knowing what teller was expecting and staying a step ahead of someone who is already a step ahead.
love when he speaks.
This video was so calming
Brilliant.
On so many levels.
As not a magician but a fan of magics (which I understand most of the tricks), that move amaze me too.
Wow he has a great voice, a lot deeper than I expected it to be.
Haha I love his laugh at the end.
I think the Egyptian magician thought that Teller saw through the trick at first... but then Teller started laughing and he knew he was tricked.
This made me smile because of the irony and simplicity of the trick.
Beautiful
THAT VOICE! IS SACRED!
Wow Teller is an absolute GENIUS.
He was talking.teller is talking he sounds different then he looks!👏
Teller should have a radio show too.
He has this golden heavenly voice.
Maybe it's from not using it for so long.
i agree, I love his voice too.
This is what magic is all about - loved Tellers reaction :)
OMG teller is talking, never have heard him speak before, this is great
teller has the voice of an angel, he should be a narrator
Oh man I love his voice
Great clip and brilliantly done- wish i could get their stuff on dvd in the uk :(
First time I have heard Teller speak. Sounds a lot more normal than I thought it would.

Hearing Teller's voice was the biggest trick.
I'm listening to Teller speak. I feel incredibly privileged.

ONLY time I've ever seen Teller's face while listening to him at the same time - that's the true magic trick here
Wow he's got an amazing voice
WOW. what a cool guy/voice/attitude
I love how no one else was impressed but teller is smacking the table.
brilliant!
I love how everyone behind telller was like "m8 there wasnt even a trick" just sitting there dumbfounded
Magic can and will save the world. Keep it alive fellow travelers...keep it ALIVE!
I always forget how badass Teller's voice is.
Teller never talks when he's "in character" with penn. Its a role they play together. It made them famous :)
No surprise that it turns out Teller is a compelling dynamic speaker!
Teller's voice is magical.
he speaks, my life is complete.
voice of an angel
Every time I hear Teller talk I think "Nooo, please don't. I must keep the magic alive"
It's even more impressive when you go back and watch him work, he is doing it all one handed. Almost lazily as he rests his head on his other hand. And he still fooled Teller
Thats amazing
Now THAT is a metamagic feat.
