  • Hello Everybody!
    We recently picked up a tiny Suzuki SJ410 (AKA "Samurai")
    In this video you will see, how we transformed that suzuki, with just a few, simple steps, and without spending much cash.
    This has been the most complicated video we have done so far, but it was a really fun project.
    Big credits go to TeknoAXE for all the music in this vid.
    There were at lot of outtakes left from filming thing, you can watch it here: • Video

    Grew up with and learnt to drive in a SJ410. Best 4x4 ever. Light, durable, economical and very reliable!!!
    Great video!!!

    Used to have a 1979 'Zuki. Loved that little truck...went anywhere. If I ever got stuck, I would put it in gear, pull out the manual choke, and get out and push. Worked almost every time. Cheers.

    One of the best videos related to "Gypsy" on the internet. This is a 1000cc Gypsy which was also sold in India and widely used by the army and the police. The current version here is 1300cc "Gypsy King", still used extensively by the army and the police.
    Personally, used a 1300cc Gypsy King (aka SJ413 ) for many years and have taken it to much worse places than shown in the video; it always made it look like piece of cake. Only a Tank can chase a Gypsy off the road, say a lot of people here.
    Kudos to the people who made this video!

    Hey that is awesome, I am fixing up a '91 samurai sj410 that wasn't even running when I bought it. It now runs pretty good and I have it running on both lp gas and petrol. I also have the same snorkel as you but since I added lp gas I had to build a hood scoop as the carb sits up pretty high with the extra attachment for the lp gas. I had to switch out the original automatic choke carb with fuel injection for a fiat carb with manual choke and no fuel injection.

    I miss my '87 Samurai tin top. It' had the 1300cc...Minor engine upgrades and 130 amp alternator. It was all stereo...That was the thing to do in the state's back in the late 80's... Those tin tops had good acoustics...Hit hard.

    First rule of off roading is, keep your thumbs on the outside of the steering wheel, that way, if the steering suddenly pull due to an obstacle, you don’t break your thumbs.Also, the roof rack mountings need more bracing, as it wobbles about and they will fatigue break , with unpleasant consequences .😊

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  Před rokem +1

      Hah yeah. This was a really long time ago, by now. Still miss that little suzuki though.
      But yeah, i do keep my thumbs out, when things get rough. But it was actually not much of a consern on this, because it was so light, it really didn't have that tendency to throw the steering wheel, like many bigger trucks do.
      And yeah, i noticed that problem with the roof rack, after seeing my video footage, so i did go and change the mounts :)

    great video, there's obviously way more that you could do to this little truck, but that doesn't necessarily mean you have to do it, I think with the engine stock it doesn't need a lift, if anything maybe a 1" body lift for more clearance of tyres, but its simple and looks and performs great.. thanks..

    What did you choose for winch? It does not look too beefy.
    Do you have any tips about the assembly of the winch?
    What's the make of the snorkel and tires?
    Will pick up my SJ413 later this week, and am eager to start modifying.

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi there, thanks a lot.
      You are right, the winch seen mounted in this video, is a very small 1,5 ton winch. Mostly meant for ATV's. But given the cars low weight, it would do in a pinch. However, later on, i built a custom bumper for it, and mounted a 4,5 Ton Warn winch to it.
      The tires i think were "Insa Turbo" and the snorkel were a no-name thing, but a copy of the ARB Safari snorkel. Both were bought at "Jimnybits.co.uk"
      Thanks for watching!

    Rigtigt pænt arbejde, Jeg kunne sagtens finde på at lave et ligende projekt.
    Akslerne ligger jo over bladfjedrene, Hvis man monterer akslen så bilen blive lidt mere høj ved at ride oven på bladfjedrene med et sæt spacere bag hjulene, Tror du så den kunne gå gennem syn med den opbygning ?

    • @KJOff-Road
      @KJOff-Road  Před 10 lety

      Vi takker!
      Men ja, Det er jo en ofte brugt smutvej til mere højde, lige at få lagt akslen om på den anden side. og hvis man laver det så det ikke ser alt for hjemmebygget ud, plejer det ikke at være et problem at få synet. (det betyder jo dog ikke det er lovligt.) men problemet med den løsning er også at du jo nemt får ændret en hel del på dine akselvinkle, og dermed styretøjs vinkler. så det ender som regl med at blive nogle forfærdenlige dinglekasser at køre i. plus at du trods den ekstra højde, stadig har samme egenskaber, da det stadig er den samme affjedring.
      Men et er billigt, og det er jo altid rart. men heller ikke den bedste løsning.
      Hvis man virkelig vil ha' noget ud af det. er der desværre ikke mange andre mulighedder, end at hoste op til en helt ny undervogn.
      Der har den her suzuki også fået, kort tid efter vi lavede den her video.

      TeamArmyTrucks Tak for informationen, Ja jeg regnede nok med at den måde alligevel var for nem til også at være godt for det hele. Jeg kunne levende forstille mig at styring og sporing bland andet ville blive slemt på virket. På den anden side er det jo faktisk en fremragende lille gravhund til grusgraven som den er, bare der er passende fælge og dæk til opgaven. Den undervogn er da ret nem kan jeg se, Hvad koster det sæt fjedre og støddæmpere ?

      Hej igen. undskyld det sene svar, (Har være på ferie) Men ja, Sættet fra Trail-master er rigtig nemt at have med at gøre, og kan installeres med basalt værktøj. og det bliver leveret med fuldt TÜV dokument, så det uden problmer kan godkendes til syn her hjemme.
      Det er dog en smule kostbart. (ca. 10-12.000 kr.)
      Vi har dog sparet en del ved at købe i england, hos Jimnybits.co.uk
      Her løber et komplet sæt op i ca 8.000kr. Med fragt.

      Tak for svaret. Jeg har leget lidt med tanken om jeg vil have en Suzi truck, og det vil jeg. Men den har faktisk sin charme med standard undervogn frem for det jeg havde i tankerne hvilket jo egentlig ville have være blevet en undervogn med en Suzuki Jimny oven på. Jeg vil holde mig til nogle terrænfærdige dæk på et sæt passende fælge. Jeg vil til nu køre min kære Mercedes 190 D ned til sokkeholderne de næste år mens jeg finder en Jimny uden afgift eller der kommer en Dansk registreret til den rigtige pris. Nok en gang tak for svaret.

      Well, yes. there wasn't any. But Actually, the leaf spring suspension on these wasn't too bad.

    The only thing I wouldn't have done is those tyres.. They're way too big and unsuited for the Jimny.. pretty sure they will rub on the flares when the car flexes too.. It's a lot of unnecessary strain on the diff and cv, and ruins your braking performance. my car has bf Goodrich KO2 215 75R15 an they're perfect for daily and regular off-road, this is a 2019 JB74 Jimny, If you wanna de the tyres and the car my Instagram is @JesseJimny
    I'm hoping to buy an Old SJ40 or JA71 soon too, I might take some inspiration for mods from this video.

      Thanks a lot. And you are right, those tires were a bit overkill for this little rig. However, they are incredibly well built, and the drivetrain didn't seem to suffer at all. Probably because of the small engine. It simply didn't have the power to break itself. And the tyres were very tightly fitted, rubbing very little when all flexed out. However, it later got a complete lift kit. That got everything sitting just right. We have a vid. On that aswell.
      Thanks for watching!

      And yes, i do know that mate. but the pants i got here, have never been part of any official Military Uniform. they are simple a set of cargo/work pants. with an M84 camoflage pattern on them.
      I just find this sort of "Military style" clothing very convenient for outdoor/offroad use.

    The public should learn from this...the ultra bad techniques used to attempt to get though obvious tire ruts. I have taken Honda Fit through worse...duhhh! Ride the high side. 2013? Yeah...I bet you are smarter now.
