I am traveling to Japan next year and I was searching for M3 information to show to my friends who're coming with me so they know where I have plans to go lmao, and I stumbled across your channel. Your content is amazing and very informative, so much that I ended up bingeing lots of your vids! The only thing that's stressing me out about these conventions is whether I can successfully communicate with the circles' staff, since I'm not that good in Japanese yet lol

Glad you enjoyed the videos that much and that they were actually useful to you! That makes me happy to hear.
When it comes to talking to circles at the event, it may not sound as convincing coming from me but don't worry too much about trying to speak to them! Most of them are quite friendly and if anything seeing people come from overseas just to visit and say hello to them during these events blows their minds so don't worry about it too much, they definitely won't be the kind of people to laugh or make fun of you for it especially since many of them are probably trying to learn English in the same way too.
If anything, from experience with my friends overseas learning Japanese, having some confidence will reduce the amount of stumble which will make the conversation smoother even if you're in the middle of learning the language so don't worry too much about saying the wrong thing and just go to town! You and they will prolly have a good time with that and good luck with the prep for the next M3 XD.
If you need help with anything you can reach me on discord.

That was a very nice introduction to M3, Its my first time hearing of the event (even tho they appear on VGMdb) since I'm only familiar with Reitaisai & Comiket.
I barely was introduce to Japanese locals band from Bocchi the Rock perspective (aka Shinjuku live shows).

Glad you enjoyed the video! It's really cool how the live shows are introducing people to indie jp bands more as well.
There are plenty of local bands that perform in bars or live houses around the country too so if you're interested in those there's definetly a lot to see! Many big artists and bands like unlucky morpheus and yonezu kenshi started out performing and releasing music at scales like these in the past too so you might be able to find quite interesting music for upcoming bands too. If you're interested in those I do recommend visiting it one day 🙌
Indeed as an event it's smaller in scale even compared to Reitaisai (I think) but it's really interesting for its specialisation into music.

The way you talked about Space Ninja having a narrative really reminded me of Masayoshi Takanaka's "The Rainbow Goblins". The only big one that I can think of recently was Jun Maeda's "Owari no Hoshi no Love Song" in which each track is its own vignette whose story connects to a larger theme.
Will have to check these out for sure.

Both of theirs were pretty interesting too yea. Really find it interesting when an attempt is made to through the lyrics of monologues of the song to add a story that progresses from start to finish. I know Galnaryus and Ariabl' Eyes do that too sometimes and it makes for a fun journey listening to the music XD

I found a lot of my favorite musics from M3 uploads, mainly from the jrpg fantasy and celtic-folk genre, including those of Rigel Theatre's. La Lyra is definitely my favorite of Rigel Theatre, then probably Rinn Ding Dong for a close second. Sad I'm too poor to actually purchase anything to support the artists though.
My favorite circle so far though is probably Hagali (Hagall?), especially because "for summon wall of ArtinaToss" and its sequel album. I like the right amount of foreign/otherworldly feel infused in their musics.

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 10 měsíci +1

Ah Hagali! Yes their music is great too. Was kinda sad they didn't turn up for the autumn M3 this time though they had two new releases in spring I believe. For summon wall of Artina Toss was a great one as well as Orchelia's vox. Really love how uniquely they do the lyrics on top of the instrumentals.
Really love how the event just provides so much variety, especially for genres that within Japan tend to be a lil more niche such as celtic-folk (and to some extent jrpg music at an indie level as well).
No need to feel bad about not being able to support them though, I'm sure they'd want you to use that money to keep yourself healthy and well first and foremost too, especially if they knew you enjoy their music. If you ever get the chance in the future when things look better though, hopefully you get a chance to drop by for the event so you can say hi to them too XD

Ah yes a fellow beep boop enjoyer of culture. Was quite surprised by how enjoyable the space ninja beep boops ended up being in the end though. Happened to pass by their booth by complete accident and was not disappointed.

    greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat coverage. thanks!
the cds are cool if you can buy them. its really cool to be able to buy a physical.
BUT for oversea fans (like me) it makes it really hard to obtain.
TANO*C for example offers their music almost everywhere and it's awesome!
Must be great to meet the circles personally :)
I love is music centered, i've met the m3 due to touhou and i like anime, but i really love it's music centered and from different sources.

I'm glad you found the video interesting! Tbh when I had my pc built I had a disk reader built into it just for cds from events like this though yea I can imagine that it'd be hard to get the music anywhere unless the artist uses a form of online platform to distribute it but it does feel liek that is still fairly rare in Japan unfortunately >.>
But yea meeting the circles in person is really quite interesting. It's kinda cool how normal most of them are in that even those that are fairly big they tend to be quite friendly and er... they do rlly feel more like normal ppl in a good way I guess XD

There are a lot that do as well so looking there would be good too! Now I feel like I should've mentioned that since it's a good first place to search if it doesn't turn up on spotify so thanks for pointing it out!

    Talking about music
I am going to Japan soon
Any place where I can hear live weeb music ? + point if it’s in akihabara

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 10 měsíci

Hmmmmm if by live music you mean like in a live house setting there's dear stage in akihabara though that one is more of idol music.
If you mean like live performance if I recall there's a doujin music event going on in Shinjuku and Iron Attack is also performing on December the 10th
      t.livepocket.jp/e/z4adr
      ion1128.wixsite.com/ironattack
Aside from those it'd depend on what type of band you'd be interested in but as it gets closer to end of the month in December there'll prolly be less since Comiket is happening and new years causes people to hide at home.
If you mean like an area to just search for CDs and where there is weeb music ambiently in the background the melonbooks along the main street of Akihabara is a p good place for that. There's alotta less safe for work stuff on the right of the store but if you go to the left upon entering there's still a small music section left there. The gamers (

@@overworkedsalaryman ah ya I am planning to go to akihabara dear stage ya basically something like that live house that plays weeb music
I am not exactly an idol fans (most I go is vtuber) but is probably the closest bochi the rock experience I can get since I am not going to shimokitazawa probably drop by buy some Polaroids listen to 1-2 song then leave

Oh weeb music live houses got it o7
In that case I guess missing out on shimokitazawa isn't too bad since it's most just spot visiting there unless you get in that specific live house but even then it likely wouldn't be anisong all the time.
I'm not sure when exactly you'd be over but I'll link some groups that do live house performances as well so you can see if any of them fit the schedule of when you're coming over!
