    Congrats man! Discovered your channel some time back for Blue Archive content and stayed for content on your sharing of smaller events/industry/places off the tourist grid! Tokyo truly is a city for hobbyists and collectors!

      I'm glad you enjoy the content overall that's great to hear! Yea Tokyo does have a lot of stores catering to all sorts of hobbies with many stores selling model kits for just tanks, TRPGs, Dolfie apparel and stuff too so there really is a lot to see depending on one's hobbies! Osaka is pretty good for that too though the vibes and prices are very different there.

    Quite interesting to see a lotta shop that sells old stuff, ill probably keep this video in mind if i ever consider going there for the sole purpose of buying figurines i missed out lol

    Congrats! This channel is such a gem. It’s gonna get big someday (which would be cool but then this channel will no longer be my secret, lol). Especially since im a big programming nerd and want to work for a game company too.

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Thank you! Hopefully it continues to grow but at least for now the growth is still at a slow and steady pace so it can remain your secret for quite a bit longer😎
      Programming in the game industry can get pretty tough but if a person in interested in it like you are I'm sure picking it up will be very ez! Tbh going through a Japanese game company would prolly be the easier way in since they do tend to hire people with less experience more willingly though if the work conditions here sound terrifying working at one of their overseas studios works too. I've heard those typically follow the culture of the respective country they are in more so they may not be too bad.

    I know I voted for the introduction to weeb places around Tokyo, but I can feel my wallet already crying in the future once I visit Tokyo in August... I was only aware of Akihabara and planned to just go there to buy anime merch, but now I have Shinjuku and Tachikawa to visit as well. I was not prepared for this forbidden knowledge... Regardless, thank you for this amazing information. Your videos are like a window to seeing what anime/weeb culture is in Japan!
    The bonus food recommendations are a nice touch too, definitely going to try Man Chi Ken for the duck ramen and Anagoya Ginza Hirai for the eel!
    Congrats on 1k Mr. Salaryman (almost 2k)!

      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 7 měsíci +1

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I pray for your wallet lol 🙏
      Shinjuku is really just that one building but it's close enough to the rest of the areas that travelling out from there won't be too tough. August means you'll prolly be in time for Comiket right? I hope you have a good time there too if you're planning to go for that.

    • @JanGamma
      @JanGamma Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@overworkedsalaryman I figure I might as well visit Shinjiku since my 2-week plan seemed lacking. I planned to visit in August specifically for Comiket, so definitely looking forward to that!

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@JanGamma If the trip is a whole 2 weeks in Tokyo I recommend taking a few days to just go down to a ryokan in Nagano as well for that fancy experience. Though if you do you'd prolly need to book the place in advance.
      Summer Comiket tends to be a lil tiring due to the weather so take care while prepping for it!
      Am planning a vid about that somewhere closer to Comiket.

    • @JanGamma
      @JanGamma Před 7 měsíci

      @@overworkedsalaryman It'll be my first time visiting Japan, so I figured I'd take it slow and just get a feel for Tokyo (or at least places close to Tokyo). My only day trips are Eastern Izu Peninsula and Yamanashi, and the rest of the days are for Comiket and just exploring what Tokyo has to offer! Some tourists plan a day doing so many things and visiting many places, but I feel like I wouldn't be able to fully appreciate something if I was rushing to do everything all at once.
      I'm definitely excited to see that Comiket video! Maybe you'll be able to address stuff like how may an international person apply for early-entry ticket lottery which requires a Japanese number (I know you can buy regular tickets at convenience stores that sell you tickets for Comiket, but I wanna get my hands on those limited BA doujinshi before they run out!) Also, what to prepare for in Summer Comiket so that we don't die from the summer heat!

    6:05 oh my god the pearl white PSP i feel OLD
    19:31 wow... i guess i actually am old, i can recognize nearly all of these covers, there's a fair bit of niche titles between all of those big name vol 1s (1600 yen for a whole collection of sesuji o'pin serialization? i'm sold)
    21:30 NOOOOOOOOOO Why did i have to be flashbanged by the most devastating powercreep medic in the history of arknights? i was having fun with the video orz
    I am a bit curious though. Despite being more of a traditional shop, these eateries you mentioned have a english serving service? (that sounds bad grammar i guess). they aren't exactly very secretive places, but i wasn't expecting that to be a common thing. Is it because this the heart of the city, the tokyo area, being why they have presets for foriegners in place, or is it also uncommon even within these areas? (i mean to have a menu and meal guide dedicated for english speakers)

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 5 dny +1

      Lol yea at this point seeing a PSP does really make the feelings of being old even stronger than before.
      The places I mentioned for food are typically the bigger places I recommend people try that are on the to visit list of many specifically foodies in general I've heard so they get decent English speaker traffic which is why they have English menues. Even within Tokyo there are many places without English menues though those are the more local stores that don't expect English clients like the places I eat at around my workplace

    • @Istreakilaz
      @Istreakilaz Před 4 dny

      Yes i was wondering about that, because the last time i did visit (admittedly almost decade ago) the eateries i was suggested to by my friend had service people still had to rely on visual cues or a middlemen. I was wondering if the demand for tourist support in these establishments grew larger since or these were just the bigger once. thanks for clarifying

    WHOA COOL LYRICAL NANOHA LIVE WALL SCROLL. I'm so jelly.
    But seriously congrats on the 1000 subs goal, it's actually really cool getting an insiders tour of just some of the Otaku shopping areas that an average tourist wouldn't immediately jump to, it always feels with weebs in Akihabara, it's too easy as a tourist trap to get caught up in the first thing to catch your eye, so having the extra recommendation from a local builds confidence for weebs like me scraping up to wanna visit Japan (someday).
    Grats again and hope to keep up the good work

    Algorithm delivered me via Blue Archive, subbed for the rest of the Japan content. Next time I visit Japan I might try to find some KEY goods in Tachikawa, I didn't see too many in Akiba (tbf I was really overwhelmed the only time I've been before haha). Thanks for the great content Salaryman!

      If you're looking for Key there's a space in the Animate in Akiba now too though that's quite a new shop since it only popped up like a year or so ago. I think it was beside the two main Animate stores there's a smaller 3 floor building with a bunch of that on the upper floor and not just for Heaven Burns Red too. Tachikawa had some Key stuff too but I'd say the easiest way to get stuff for Key is to order it online from their store and send it to a pickup point or address in Tokyo if you get the chance.

    • @overworkedsalaryman
      @overworkedsalaryman  Před 7 měsíci

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
      Halal places are very limited in Japan but you'll still have ae easier time than vegetarians at least. A round the more touristy locations in Tokyo and Osaka there are a few. Most are Kebab places but there are some like Wagyu Yakiniku Panga that serves grilled halal beef and Toribushi Halal Ramen that serves a halal tori baitan. Idk as much for snacks but I do know there's an Indonesian mart in one of the back alleys of Ueno where I go to get Indomee. They mostly import directly from Indonesia so a fair bit of their stuff is halal as well.
      Also my apologies becaue my understanding of what counts as halal is limited but when it comes to fish is there a specific halal way of preparation as well? If there isn't as much of a restriction then fish ramen places might be interesting to try. There's a good one just opposite the duck place i mentioned too.

      If you're looking for the latest light novels going to any of the big stores like Shosen, Animate or Gamers in Akiba would be good since not only do they feature the new and popular stuff on a floor but they might also have limited items given out with the purchases of new books.
      If you're looking to collect older titles I recommend just going around the many book-offs in the city and searching there instead since they can get as cheap as 100 yen and you might find full sets. Most of the biggest book offs are in the west of Tokyo aside from Akiba like Hachiouji, Tachikawa, Shinjuku or Gotanda
