The Custodes are assisting the Death Korp in defending the trenches against a Word Bearer planetary assault. Luka decides to play the new Word Bearers against Cody and his Adeptus Custodes mix with Death Korp of Krieg in this 2,000 point maelstrom mission.

Death Korps player here.
People always forget about several things when playing DKoK infantry: 1) They are all WS3+, 2) the watchmasters (squad leaders) have BS3+ (the watchmasters can also take lasguns, hotshot lasguns and hotshot laspistols, which i always give them a hotshot lasgun and a chainsword since these are both free), and 3) They have, unlike normal guardsmen, krak grenades in addition to frag (which can be pretty decent when used in combination with the grenadiers stratagem. 9x BS4+ and 1x BS3+ S6 AP-1 Dd3 krak grenades being thrown at you will be decently scary for most things).
They actually do have the "fix bayonets" order.
Now all that being said, they are a 5 point guardsmen who does not get access to thr "first rank fire second rank fire" order and while it is true that they ignore casualties in the shooting phase for morale checks (really cool) and have a really nice synergy in close combat with their unique orders, especially with a priest and a regimental standard in a command squad (both buffs giving a total of +2 attacks to anything within 6" (so a dkok guard squad with a chainsword on the watchmaster would have 32 attacks at WS3+)), they are still just guardsmen and will die like flies before any of that can really matter all that much. So they could use an update and some love, but I love their lore so much and they are very fun to play, just remember you aren't going to be all that meta with them.

@@andilucas6926 of course, my point though is that unlike other guard regiments, the DkoK have a harder time making use of their special rules.
oof, Its painful to watch when a beautifully painted army roll badly. Kudos to the guy though for being a good sport. Always good to see custodes on the table.

Guys, I really love what you did with this report. The table looks brilliant, as not many people do those kinds of terrain set ups any more. Both lists are fun and new, and the paint schemes are gorgeous. Also, that custodes list was so fun for me, that it would make me enjoy to play Custodes!

Playing that many dreads and forgetting the 6+ fnp of the venerable that much is a bit unfortunate
He couldn't roll 3s, so that shouldn't make a difference.
Don't forget (unless I missed it), you have a strategem to auto pass a save per character as a Word Bearer as well. No need to risk a normal command reroll for a save. The legion seems to be specializing in making things happen with certainty, replaces command rerolls with a 100% guarantee.

I love how that overwatch by the DKoK went down. All of them firing at this charging monstrosity that gets soaked point blank by fire only for it to erupt from the flames and butcher the squad.
When the custodes go to war the ministorum always records a victory for the Imperium
He got the names of the dreads mixed up lol. The shield dreads are galatus dreadnoughts and the spear is the achillus

I don't think it's impossible for followers of Khorne and followers of Slannesh to work together, especially in a legion largely devoted to Chaos Undivided. It's just highly unlikely.

Kyriss and Ka’bandha also did, granted they were at each other’s throats constantly and only united because Blood Angels needed to join Chaos.
The black legion has famously done it for some time. It's more like a competition for them then outright hate.

Achillus = Spear dread like Achilles with his spear.
Galatus = Sword & board dread like a Galant medieval knight with his sword and shield.
The Achillus’ dreadspear ranged profile is only D3 damage per shot. The D6-min 3 damage is only for the melee profile.
Also I would never take the culverin on the Telemon. Even having 2 of them are just a worse version of what you get with Caladius as they’re the same number of shots, Strength, AP, and damage just with less range, and the Telemon suffers the penalty for moving and firing.

The Word Bearers Legion trait is that you can reroll failed morale.
The World EATERS Legion Trait is the +1 attack on the charge.
and you are using the Word Bearers Warlord Trait for +1 Attack aura in 6" ?

Chaos Knights are inferior to the KLOS in all ways. He does not degrade his to hits, has the legion keyword, can be upped with great stratagems like daemonforge, heals, can be healed easily for up to 7-10 hitpoints a turn, has better guns and pointswise he is the same or less than a shooty knight, ohh and he gets additional attacks when degrading to the point he can get more than a freaking Solitaire. Also if you put a Lord Discordant next to him he hits on 2s naturally. If you think otherwise, change my mind.
As much I’d love for that to be true, it sadly is not.
On it own, without an infernal household the KLOS is arguably better, though you can still call a chaos knight better. However with a household, a chaos knight is miles better.
A chaos knight is not only cheaper, but sadly, is also better at shooting. This is because the only good gun on the lord of skulls is the Gatling cannon, all the others are just too expensive and do too little. A chaos knight has better anti tank, and easier ways to get over screens for melee. Not to mention, chaos knights generally have better relics, and a whole host of really powerful strategems.
Not to mention, chaos knights can be much more versatile with gun options, as well as using infernal traits to hammer enemy’s or be more durable than a KLOS.
Also, a KOLS does degrade, as the extra attacks are nice, but on his last bracket he can’t really move, which means that massive axe which is his real core is just wasted.
Not only are there multiple cheaper ways to get a chaos knight to hit on twos, but they can be healed nearly as reliably, as getting to 7-10 wounds requires both strategems and certain conditions to be met, along with multiple buffing characters.
Sadly, from a tactical sense, a chaos knight is normally better than a khorne lord of skulls, just due to them being better at operating without multiple support characters alone.
Chaos Knights are cooler and don't look stupid though

To change my mind you would need to do a little more :) Also how do you heal a knight for 7-10 wounds a round? Btw, the KLOS can be healed like that without any command points. Besides, pointswise, the knight is 30 points cheaper but got 1 gun less, so that should be rather negligible.

@@andrewadamski8547 I have always understood it as Khorne was the antithesis of Tzeentch, Slaanesh the antithesis of Nurgle.
Khorne hates all magic because he finds it dishonorable.
Slaanesh hates Nurgle because it's the oposite of opulence and beauty.
So to me the clear allies were always Khorne could work with Nurgle and Slaanesh, but not Tzeentch.
Slaanesh could work with Tzeentch and Khorne, but not Nurgle.
I even made a chaos marine once with half red and half pink armor xD

From a set lore perspective however, Khorne and slaanesh are opposed to each other as oldest and youngest God, and Nurgle and Tzeentch are opposed as they represent stagnation and despair vs change and hope. Slaanesh needs things to live to indulge in their fantasies, and a lot of the time those fantasies include torturing prisoners (Dark Eldar) instead of killing them honorably in combat. Remember Khorne is ALSO the chaos god of honor in battle. Khorne needs things to die and fight.
Nurgle and Tzeentch hate each other because Tzeentch is about change/progress, while Nurgle is about stagnation/entropy,

I HATE super heavies. They shouldn't be in non-apoc games.
Why?
They just encourage you to make your list have enough anti tank, and they make games more interesting. Sure they can be disheartening to play, but if your a smart player, they normally don’t pose a massive challenge, as they normally don’t hit that hard compared to their points cost. For certain factions they can be really hard to deal with, but most factions can absolutely manhandle a KLOS.
Honestly, I like the Super Heavies because, even though they're big, they still die. I've seen guard squads put the hurt on a Knight before. And you can normally get more of the little guys for every big guy.
@@nathanieleck1023 Their weapons deletes units, they have extremely high toughness and insane number of wounds. Super heavies is for apoc, not normal games.

I'm not saying super heavies can't be killed. I am saying that the games just centers around the big thing until it's dead. THEN you can actually start to play the game. It's the same thing with Magnus and Mortarion. I've played against Magnus many many times and I've played with Mortarion many times. Every game with those kinds of models devolve into try to kill the big thing turn one or lose.
@@kallemon that's fair enough. I play Knights and own Magny Magic and Morty. They rarely survive turn one. I have to play 3 knights in order to use them normally. Most people in my area Wreck super heavies with ease but, to be fair, we did have someone buy a household worth when they first released
