I love Magnus and Mariano's honesty towards each other and especially Mariano's sincere advice to Carlson not to call after the Mariano A4 shove.
It's Carlsen lol
showing respect, yet also having fun. "I bet you are not playing these cards normaly. I mean, you're a pro player right?" xD
That’s no fun
Poker is for pain. Beat it
Me and the boys do the same sometimes, we usually start whos gonna de-thrown the other and 1hr later it's like we're playing as a group😂
Botez: why do you need the money?
Magnus: drinking
I need more Magnus Carlsen poker content pleaseeee!
He’s the proof that being a chess master doesn’t necessarily mean you can play poker.
@@dropssergian you're shitting me?
He is not yet there but with the right coaching He will get better.
Maybe Berky can coach him hahaha
Faraz Jaka is more suitable 😂
Too late… Mariano will take him under his wing until the Pupil beats the Master
Just needs to watch POLKER Hands
It hardly seems surprising to me that someone who has a phenomenal memory, the ability to calculate complex variations in his head accurately and rapidly, and who has spent years looking at an opponent across the board trying to read their expressions or body language to understand their mood and likely assessment of the position, is going to end up learning how to play a game that requires the ability to read people, the ability perform some fairly complex calculations in their heads, and have a phenomenal memory which helps memorise range charts and GTO play.....
Magnus is one of the greatest chess players of all-time. Certainly top 3 and arguably the GOAT (I have him at #2, just behind Garry Kasparov). All of Magnus' qualities as a GM, his patience, his energy and stamina, his attention to detail and precision, his determination to extract every little advantage he can, all translate into being a good poker player.
Definitely has a lot of carryover potential. The hardest part of competitive chess is stress management when there is no physical release available like in competitive sports. You’re just sitting there unmoving as the stress builds in your body and the pressure mounting in your brain. On top of that being able to make logical unemotional moves while potentially feeling very emotional.
I love that Magnus needs to take poker seriosly to not lose his drinking money 😂😂
Magnus can be a great poker player w/ his incredible memory
beo lost every hand hahahah
@@tomasjma6519 not the last one. he made two good decisions and one bad one. the other was a cooler
True, he can memorize a lot of strict GTO plays and gain a great understanding of Poker with the related conceptual ideas.
Not many people know Magnus have played quite alot poker. In many underground poker Clubs in Oslo and in the Norwegian poker championship
That last hand was so epic! Nick's tell was that he announced "$700" on the flop, but was completely silent the rest of the hand.. it looked like a bluffed flush draw.. (and he was holding the jack of spades so he might have thought he could represent a flush if another spade came). Amazing poker right there. Great instinct call from Magnus!
Loved this stream. I was excited to see Magnus and Botez tons of CZcams fans were in chat for KNJ. I loved the interaction between Mariano and Magnus.
well said
sorry wtf is KNJ
mariano’s face when the two hit 😂😂😂😂 so good
Magnus is awesome: his clashes with Hikaru are great too
Botez AND Carleson?? This live will be so good, love them both
"When you are done with the main game so you do the side quests."
Looks like Magnus will be coming back as his poker knowledge is on the hyper pace. He got the Brain to battle with everyone soon.
Mariano's eyes on the 2 turn lol
Botez fangirling over Magnus and Mariano fangirling over Magnus and Alex
Botez needs to start playing poker for a living. She’s cleaning up in these games.
Second hand actually a much easier spot because of how small side pot is, so Mariano is never bluffing a hand like 67 or missed clubs this big when he will lose the main pot to Bryce anyway
Magnus would be good for poker. the crossover with chess feels so natural.
Magnus could probably take all of his standard chess tournament prep work and studying deep 30 move openings and use it to dominate heads up. In Chess they look back to see player data bases and find weaknesses they can exploit thats basically the same in poker.
Gotta say, Magnus did really well considering the hands he had. Well played my friend...
3:24 - Magnus was *spot on!* I really wish that he'd called!!
His fold was beyond "just good" but his read was WAY better. Even though he folded, I still think he made a great play!
I reckon if he kept this up: he could earn millions!
In this lineup anyone with the smallest amount of basic poker knowledge can look like a genius.
He is a literal genius though
He is a literal genius tho
Exactly, that's why Botez was able to take home full winnings a few months ago. Easy pickings
Softest 10-25 game I’ve ever seen hustler does great job with these line ups like always.
@@kallewikstrom8519 Lanny Poffo was more of a genius than this guy...
Mariano is such a likeable person, and Magnus plays decent already.
"Mariano getting FADED" should have been the title of the video.
That call at the end of the video was top notch... Damn.
Mariano was obviously punting on purpose
Next time he’ll CRUSH!
3:24, after his read - his fold was beyond "just good" ... his read was SO good. Even though he folded, I still think he the best play!
I reckon if he kept this up: he could earn millions!
That call with 4 would have made Robbie proud ….
Regarding Nick's bluff at the end, i think its super suspicious not to go for it all on the river you know? like 3 streets of value, SPR is about 1 and he doesnt shove? GREAT call by Magnus
At 0:58 when the commentator said 'whatt' I thought it was Yasser Seirawan for a sec😂😂
gotta love hitting backdoor trips and your opponent having the 4th card you triply block
Why is no one talkin abt the announcer sayin “oblivious she don’t have the nuts” to botez?🤣
His instincts/intuitions are very good.
watched the whole clip just for the 20 seconds of music at the end. Hoorah!
Magnus is actually learning very quickly!
He's been playing on and off for over a decade.
He has been playing for a long time, and I would say that "actually learning very quickly" is not the right way to describe the best chess player of all time.
I am at 15th minute right now. Is this poker prodigy gonna win at least one hand?
Dudes a legitimate genius
@@Kassadin10 lmao
The best Chess player of all time legend!
bobby fisher?
@@Thiiink No, Magnus Carlsen
@@just8453 who?
@@Thiiink Someone in the 21st century
Imagine Magnus going deep into the lab stuying GTO.
I can't tell if Mariano was genuinely pissed off at what Magnus said at the end. Lol. That'd be a quick turnaround for what looked like a blossoming bromance.
Magnus is still a big time calling station. It's his competitive nature but that's a mental hurdle in poker.
Magnus just knows how to act cool for MINUTES at a time while we I'm terrified of the situation at hand, but I'm not even playing.
Much cooler group/vibe than the stream with Hellmuth/Dwan. Keating was fine tho
wait what happened at the end? why was mariano saying “ did u hear what he just said during that “ about magnus? right at the end when they were all talking
Even though he didn’t play that well, he has the reasoning that people struggle to get when learning poker. Unexperienced players have the “he never has it” mentality, when Magnus had the “what hand does this” intstead
what do you mean with the ''he never has it'' mentality
@@heeelgekkkkkk thinking that you should always call somebody as they “ *never* have it”. Exploitative play should be identified but your cards and ranges should also be factor.
What I’m trying to say that beginners tend to forget about the board dynamics or the type of hands that beat them
Mariano being so humble and open because he knows that pretty soon he will be battling 100k + hands against Magnus.
The world champion of a game that requires logic, memory, and huge decision trees is good at poker, go figure lol
At this point, I am convinced Botez is stalking Magnus
chess and poker have one thing in common which is decision making and i think if magnus played more poker and gets a good understanding of it + the excellent decision making that he already has then he would definitely be one of the top players in poker as well
If there is ever a moment in your life when you think wearing a baseball cap backwards makes you cool it might be time to cash in your life chips
Is that a Klimt in the background (beginning of the video) (!)
The poker speaks for itself
How do the commentators know which cards the players have? cause the players only peak at the cards very fast
11:34 - watching that charming young Magnus Carlson back in the day ... I just never thought I'd hear him swear! Not too sure why...
21:49 like a movie villain.
I don't understand why Botez didn't wait for Carlsen to make a decision after her all in
People be thinking magnus got bored with chess but in reality, he is simply honing his mental strength for chess by trying to master poker, when he gets back to chess, he will be on a whole new level from everyone else
Thats not how it works unfortunately. Getting good a game X only gets you better at game X or games that resemble X (like X1, X2 etc) but going to play in game Y isnt going to get you significant improvements.
@@Kindred1a1 Simply not true. Especially for a competitor of the highest level like Magnus, there's plenty to learn from any competitive endeavor
@@benjaminadler2001 He can learn from it for sure, but he won't learn anything directly applicable to chess. "Mental strength" as the OP puts it is very vague. Carlsen already has the most mental stamina from all other chess pros so I took "mental strength" to mean some kind of skill. If we are talking about transferable skills or cognitive capacities (ex working memory, divided attention), then the literature is pretty clear on that (I can provide reference since im in that field if youd like)
@@Kindred1a1 Got it. I don't expect poker to actually boost his cognitive function. It very well may stand to make him better at chess though.
And a change of pace is good for any sort of 'mental strength' that might prevent burnout
Nick looks stunned
What a Youngling waiting to become a Jedi in a couple years of playing
"Obviously she doesn´t have the nuts" got me
So Negreanu plays chess now and Magnus poker
First Magnus vs Fabiano, now Magnus vs Mariano
I thought this was a Magnus video not Mariano, LOL. The guy is on a heater
I like how Alex is the bank!
Magnus mind tricked that Ace high king high hand.
'Prodigy' Proceeds to lose every hands but one shown in the video lol.
Magnus conquering side quests too !
"Nick looks like someone who just kicked his puppy" LOL
Magnus sort of looks like the short dude from game of thrones
Mariano and Rampage are the type of players we needed in the streamers table. Make it happen Hustler. 😀
They literally just made it happen
@@brainwormradio4285 The Mr. Beast lineup was much crazier than this one. Dont get me wrong. This one is great too, but that one with the high buy-ins was something different.
He stole Nepo's heart and top knot
Magnus is brilliant. He's going to become one of the great poker players if he continues
Are you serious?lol
😂
Why does that sound unreasonable? One of the greatest minds if not the absolute greatest in chess. Mariano is a relatively new poker player and is absolutely killing it in cash games. Why wouldn't Magnus be able to get to a high level?
@@othmaneelfari Let that man look at solvers for 1 years straight and he can memorize the game tree
He has a long joirney ahead if he wants to be really good.
Lol the Alex botez hand - she revealed her hand before magnus could call because she knew she had the best hand lol
You say prodigy, I say station
If i was mariono with the 93 on the river. I woulda showed the 9 while magnus was tanking. Lol woulda been funny
Let's just have a chess grand master poker tournament. Karpov, Hiraku, Kasperov, Polgar etc.
Why are you giving him praise he gets stacked multiple times and makes a call that’s not profitable most of the time??
Well tbh only one bad call. The AT one. The one with 72 he had incentive to play the 72 game and in the end how tf he knew he was beat that was just unlucky. All other times he stacked Botez's AJ AQ on that board. And then the last one he has good instinct on the call because the other guy is a noob hes not gonna bet 3streets with one pair hands like AK on this dangerous board so its either a set, straights or air. I thought Magnus was absolutely brilliant going over the first fold with KJ thinking Marianos should never shove Ace high there so KJ is basically Ace high in that case which could make a call. A lot of pros when they hero call they go through the same thought process but the amateurs in the comments willl never ever understand and thus never make as much money as the pros.
When I was a kid my coach said if you play with crappy players your game will become crap. My turn to give some advice,
If you watch crappy poker plays your game will reflect rhat
7:58 "he's embarrassed!" ..... III MMMMEAAANNNN!!!!...... HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF HOLLYWOOD-ING?" Jeeeezze.
glad I watched to the end
yo that was nuts
Man could play high stakes if he wanted. He plays fantasy premier league and 2 years ago he finished 3rd out of like 100mln people
Having difficulty understanding the title of this video "poker prodigy". Is that because he was smart to fold the first hand with K high, or the 2nd hand where there was a 4 card straight on the board? Folding the trip 7's versus the full house was obviously a good move but he already had 90% of his chips invested in that pot.
Or, more simply, he lost 3 hands and wildly "hero called" the final one, which was when he could have been beaten by virtually any hand except a simple high card. Chess prodigy, absolutely, but don't give up the day job!
I feel like this carlsen guy could be good at chess if he ever tries it
I think he is a chess player.
Only doin sidequests now😂
Did the meaning of Prodigy change? Side note: Boetez has the biggest crush on Magnus. It's kind of cute
Prodigy? He's 32, and has been playing in bigger games for 10+ years!
He’s going to be the best player in the world
Mariano at this point making that much from rake that he's straight punting?
Magnus seems like he could be an insanely good poker player,
I don’t think so. Anazing poker players start early, play thousands upon thousand of hours and have decades of experience.
There is as much chance for Carlsen to become the next Bonomo as there is for Negreanu to become the next Ding Liren.
That is, exactly zero.
@@IZn0g0uDatAll poker is not like chess, chess seems to be way extremely more complicated. Listening to Magnus talk about poker, seems like he is already better than 70% in the game. His mind thinks such a way, that I would easily bet on him becoming a very balanced player. Good enough to make money against any HCL line up.
@@mayanaztec6440 you are better than 70% just by showing up
@@bogdanpopescu1401ok, so you make my point easier, since Magnus has a way of looking at the game, many steps ahead, it would be easy for him to learn which cards he could represent in future streets, his range, his equity etc.
I'm happy Magnus chose chess
You can tell Mariano respects Magnus
Poker is child’s play compared to chess. Not surprised
Magnus har mye å lære på bud sizing
Alex is cool, but Andrea playing poker would be so entertaining.
Ar speedcuber is here???(Mariano)
Tough game for Magnus. But he still is classy... and still is a genius.
Not even gifted ( IQ 130 or more) let alone a genius.
@@isaacharton7851how do you know his IQ?
@@isaacharton7851all your comments shutting on Magnus 😂 where’s your source
Why is marinao revealing his hand all the time lol
who will finally tell him that if he brings 7 2 to the river, then they will not turn into A A?
That call at the end was world class
