Spring Is Coming To Our Cottage On The Isle of Skye - Scottish Highlands - Ep61

- Willie, Sarah and their dogs Jack Spaniels & new puppy, Nori continue their biggest adventure yet - leaving their suburban life and moving over the sea to a remote cottage on the Isle of Skye, off the west coast of the Scottish Highlands.
In this episode, the Skye Lifers can see the beginning of the end of winter - hoping that they have seen the last of the frost & snow and the start of warmer, calmer days...maybe!
We begin preparing for spring - getting the boat onto a trailer that isn't about to collapse at any given moment and giving Iggy the car a much-needed spring clean!
Plus watch as Sarah paints a commission for a friend - a red remembrance poppy.

The frost on the plants where you took Jack for a walk was so lovely , he really enjoyed walking in the crunchy frost .
So glad Willie now has a safe trailer, & what a good neighbour he has 👍. Good video .
Put dehumidifier gel or pellets in socks and hang them in your car to keep the dampness out , change the gel or pellets as needed or get the kind that you can put in the oven dry out and reuse.
The reusable kind starts out blue and turns pink when wet and then back to blue when it is re-ready to use. These work in my truck for all of winter......

Recently got one of those reusable ones. Am loving it! Litre of water spilled (don't ask)? No excess moisture to deal with!
And in general the windows fog far less in damp water. When they do I know it is time to microwave the dehumidifier.
What a talented painter you are Sarah. I think we, as onlookers, don't appreciate just how much time and skill goes into a painting.
I know; I was shocked to hear Sarah say 17 hours for her fantastic artwork. WOW! You have great talent and skill.

That wee guitar piece while Sarah was painting was lovely too, very restful.
Desensitisation trip to the vets frequently even when you don't need to go is a good idea to help with rare trips when needed especially for Nori you can get him used to going. So definitely worth making the vets a place you go to often on a social aspect aswell will certainly help around ❤
Our vet does have a shop, so we will stop by now & again 😊

Willie, we love our second-hand boat. Never apologize for the joy you get while doing something you love. Sarah, I was thinking during your walk that a painting of those frosted green leaves would be amazing.And that poppy, your talent blows me away.
Willie, we have a water access cottage and have 3 boats and all are used. If you are buying a new boat it must be small or you have lots of money. Boats are not like cars and can last for years, heavens we have a 1991 21ft whaler we bought 20 + years ago and are just getting a new motor for it this year. We bought it used many years ago and could not afford a new one then or now. Heavens its great to be able to invest in things that are used affordable and function as good as new. Wishing you many enjoyable hours out on the water
So so cute watching the pups 'helping' with everything. We have 5 dogs that just love being involved with everything too.

Ohhhh!!!! I loved watching Sarah painting the poppy. Absolutely stunning. My late father served in the British Navy during WW2, so such a good charity for the proceeds to go to. So very glad that you have a new trailer Willie and Richard can recycle the other one. I love the close up of the ice on the plants & trees, so pretty & ethereal at the same time. Hey Willie, I was listening to CZcams Music & These Old Walls played! It was really cool to hear knowing you & all😎. Don't listen to the boat naysayers! Fishing & crabbing for your own food is a Blessing! The 'Industry' on a Global scale is decimating for profit our beautiful oceans and any/all wildlife. Your boat represents freedom from them adding sustainability. The new trailer was a no brainer, old one was a deathtrap! Sarah my car leaked, and I couldn't find it. There are little tubes hidden to magically send the rain back down to the road. Obviously clogged, my husband fed a long piece of wire down it. Fixed it. The wet carpets weren't fun but no more leaking! Your Poppy is glorious. Your neighbor Richard is too. YAY Spring!❣

It’s great to see you painting again and it turned out beautiful. Well the two of you managed to get two very important jobs done. I personally put a fitted sheet or blanket over the back seat when I take the dog out and remove it when needed for people, saves on the fur getting on the people lol. Most impressed observing your technique with water colour. Your post reminds me that it is 50 years since I first camped just over the hill at Glen Brittle. We used to bring teenagers (15 yr+) to climb on The Cuillin. Over many years we experienced every kind of weather you can imagine from blue skies to gales, driving rain and snow/ice.
We are supposed to get frost tonight and tomorrow night. There are so many kinds of Poppies. I think the red Oriental Poppy (with the black centers) is so beautiful. It is hard to believe that a very dangerous drug comes from such a beautiful flowering plant. You do beautiful art work.

The trouble with a trailer that might break is the guy driving behind you doesn't really want a new hood ornament, especially the size of that boat!
The poppy is lovely Sarah. You are so very talented. I've never seen mold on seats before. Probably because we have about 15-20% humidity at best. I was going to wash my car, but then it snowed and it didn't seem worth it.

One way to kill mold spores is to add a few drops of clove oil to the washing water.

Sarah, since it's so wet there you might want to look into spraying a mould inhibitor on your seats. Dryzone has a Mould Remover and Prevention Kit that not only kills active mould, but prevents it from taking hold in the first place.
