Taking a break in Kennedy Meadows
Vložit
- čas přidán 13. 05. 2021
- In this episode Duane makes a solo trip back up to Kennedy Meadows to spend some quiet time and just take a break from all the stressors of work and life. This two day trip started with a detour to Lone Pine to drop off a hitchhiker. Ultimately he made his way back to Kennedy Meadows at nightfall and explored the area a bit over the next couple of days. This included setting up the Kodiak Canvas Flexbow 10x14VX Tent!
Camping can be a great way to get away and take a break. You do not always have to go to regular camp grounds. You can make your way into the national forest or bureau of land management (BLM) and camp primitively by yourself for no cost. It might seem scary to do that BUT it is amazing to find a secluded place to set up camp and just be by yourself or with your party. Duane is really embracing this way of getting away and you can learn along with him as he figures this stuff out!

Where do you like to take a break at? Personally I like more isolated places with not a lot or NO other people!
#blairvalley 🌵😎👍
That looks a lot like out here where I’m out. 3 hours away though - sounds like I need to put that place on my list!
This is amazing duane this is you living not surviving. More of adventures!!!!!!
So true and it is wonderful to be doing it! Life can definitely get better!!! 😀
Beautiful, Duane. Thank-you for sharing your moments of peace with us and giving us inspiration and hope.
Thank you so much for your support! I hope people can see stuff like this and realize there can be a better and peaceful life!
Excellent video! It warms my heart that you picked up the young hitchhiker from Israel. I’m so happy for you that you can get out and find some peace and quiet. Thank you for sharing this side of yourself and your life with us.
Yeah that part was really cool. Thank you so much for watching!
#campingenvy. Peaceful. Coffee. Outdoors. Fresh air. Ya gotta love it. Thanks Duane! Be well Sir 👍🙏
It’s the simple things that can recharge your soul! You too Drason!!!
Beautiful trip! Reminder to live our lives in a beautiful way
Is it amazing by how easy it is to forget that simple truth!
This is a rather , relaxing video full of peace and tranquility and the production is well put together . 👍
Thanks so much that is what I was going/hoping for! 👍🏻
Thank you Duane for sharing this great adventure of yours, I moved recently and am missing this type of adventure and living a life more surrounded by nature. You can really feel life and what it is telling you when you take the time to explore and lose yourself in the moment like this.
Hi Camila I'm glad you found the channel and enjoyed it! I hope you can get out and do your own adventure real soon! I'm hoping to get out this coming weekend but with all the fires and smoke I'm not sure where I can go...
I like the super chill road trip music!
Thanks Sage I really try to find the right music that fits with the travels!
Duane after being a early subscriber on the "These People" channel , I am so glad that years later.. your finding peace. Mother nature does amazing things. Makes you appreciate the little things in life and appreciate good people , even if they happen to be hitchhikers. When you were driving down the dark road mentioning a hitchhiker..a scene from the movie CreepShow came to mind... "Thanks for the ride Lady"
Your a good soul Duane, I cannot thank you enough
LOL - thankfully I didn't freak myself out - it was pretty dark and isolated down that road! Yeah, it's amazing how our perspective changes and I'll tell you what used to bother me years ago just doesn't anymore. It really is the simple things or little things that truly make life much better. It is unfortunate that we all end up here after a traumatic experience but I'm grateful to know, well to experience, getting to the other side of this. Thank you so much for your support Dan and I hope you're doing better AND able to appreciate the little things in your life as well! 👍🏻
WOW...Fascinating! Love this. I am on board! Subscribed. Blessings, Duane! Have a great time. Wish I was there. LOVE NATURE! And YOU!
Glad you found it Angela and enjoyed the video! 👍🏻
Hello Duane! Looks like a blast. And I really love you ability to capture those aerial shots with your droid flyer ) I can’t think of it). Hope you trip went well and I love camping as well with my 9 year old son. Thanks for sharing and be safe out there!
Eduardo
It really was a good trip Eduardo and it definitely was a blast. Camping is such a good a simple way to get away and have some really good quality time with your kids! The little drone I have does a really good job and it’s one of the smallest ones (and cheapest) you can get. It’s a DJI Mavic Mini
I hope you had a wonderful time seeing the 395 made me cry I miss home so much but I know I can never go back we would go camping there
It was a great trip! I want to head back up there but not sure when. When was the last time you were there and what were your favorite places? I’m still exploring and learning that area
@@dustyroaddestinations Mt Whitney is my favorite all along the 395 is so beautiful I the one thing I miss so much I left in 95
I've only seen Mt Whitney from Lone Pine at the base of the valley - I was close during that video when I was searching around the Alabama Hills area - I just couldn't find where I it was okay to disperse camp that was the reason I went back to Kennedy Meadows. Last year I went up the 395 with my daughter when we end up in the Stanislaus National Forest and Yosemite. Wow you've been gone a lone time - I got to this specific area (antelope valley) in 93 and haven't left. Isn't it amazing how you can blink and a TON of time just vanishes!
@@dustyroaddestinations I love Yosemite I grow up outside of Fresno spend a lot of time in there I miss it I lived in Lancaster for 40 years had 3 kids in AV hospital you need to go to Mt Whitney it's a beautiful day trip
Wow crazy small world. All three of mine were born at the same hospital! I’ll definitely put it on the list!
Thanks for sharing, Duane. You definitely are an inspiration......such a beautiful place you picked.....
Thanks so much A! It was a great time and place! We are just going through Oregon right now and man it is a beautiful state!
@@dustyroaddestinations Fantastic!...glad you had a great time. Oregon is really a beautiful state as well...
It really is and that is just from what we’ve seen from the main Highway! I can’t wait until we get to where we are going and have more time to explore!
Duane, come to think of it, my dream has always been to take a trip like yours, but on horseback, like the olden days. When I have a good chunk of time, I’ll try some short trip horse camping.♥️
@@dustyroaddestinations Explore away! I think we’re all with you in spirit.😊
Duane's got gear !
Yeah, I'll have to start doing gear reviews! Maybe that will help this little channel grow! LOL
What a great thing to do! Some incredible drone footage!! 🤩👌
Thanks Philip I’m glad you enjoyed it! 👍🏻
This is really relaxing. Nice drone shots :)
Thanks so much E that is what I was hoping for! 😀🏕
Awesome!! This is what I need in my life... But not much to do where I live and being a single income I'm sorta broke .I love love the creek..... So peaceful and beautiful
Yeah I hear you on the broke side of things. Early in this process I couldn’t afford gas so it made it really complicated. I hope you can carve something out soon to do. But until then maybe these videos can be an escape???
@@dustyroaddestinations yeah it sucks. He doesn’t pay anything so I’m totally on my own providing financially for everything. Paycheck to paycheck
if I’m lucky, and lots of debt to survive 😞 just having somewhere like that to get away and have peace would be amazing!!! I love the videos- keep them coming 😊
Yeah it's definitely tough - I remember those days. Took a LONG time to dig my way out from that. Actually it's only been a couple of months to be honest...
Jedi Leia Rey You may have heard of this already but The Ramsey Plan seems to be helpful and I am attempting it. I'm sorry you are going through a rough time right now, I have been there and by all means do not know all the answers but don't quit, you can do it. Take life one minute at a time, I am happy you are tuned into a great channel such as Duane's and are able to see something grounding in a time that must be difficult. Keep on keeping on, you can do it, just like Duane and many others.
Enjoy ...
Thank you so much Jennifer! It was a great trip!
Good people you are, says Yoda! 👍
Lol thanks so much! 👍🏻
🙌
Hey! You found me @Coffee Girl!
Duane thats cool. I can hear the creek . Were you worried sleeping out in the back of the truck ? With my luck the coyotes would find me. Ha! Have a great time Duane ..
Thanks so much John! Actually I wasn’t. The only thing I was worried about was it the weather changed but the forecast had a 0% chance of rain. Honestly though it’s amazing to see the stars every time you open your eyes
@@dustyroaddestinations that's awesome to see the stars ✨ and sleep hearing that creek right near you. California is such a different landscape than what we have here in New England
You know the annoying part is my hear sucks so I couldn't hear it when I was laying down. California has some really weird landscapes especially near and in the desert.
Yes! It's so peaceful.
Love this content too. It's a great example to your followers, speaking as one of your original followers.
Excited to watch!
Be sure to let me know what you think!
Just subscribed Duane . Good one
Thank you so much Aparna and I’m glad you enjoyed the adventure!
Duane!! Missing your adventure videos man!! When are we going to get a new one??
Man I REALLY want to get out a do *something*. It has been extremely frustrating with the fires, work, etc that just keep thwarting any adventures. I had a buddy as me to do a multi-state trip but the short notice I couldn't pull it off.
Beautiful area and a great solo getaway. I'm dying to get out myself, but haven't been able to yet. Thanks for the great vid! It's very inspiring :)
I hope your can get out there soon Steve! It was a fun trip AND the first time I’ve been able to have a fire! Every time I went out last year there were burn bans.
Outstanding! The picture quality is awesome. Which drone are you using?
Thanks so much AK! I’m using the DJI Mavic Mini which I think is the cheapest DJI drone you can get. Definitely a lot of bang for the buck!
Thats why we do it!Peace Slow down.
It’s so important to do just that Aaron! It’s amazing how something so simple is so difficult to do most of the time! Man you have to say it sure is nice how quick and secure those Kodiak tents go up!
@@dustyroaddestinations I will do it this fall!If not backyard!lol
I had to do that this time last year. Got the new tent and the world shut down. Even the back yard was fun! Hope you can get someplace cool soon!
Oh by the way put up a short vid on the Kodiak 9x8 deluxe see what you think czcams.com/video/noHf6VUDm2Y/video.html.
@@aaronpat123 awesome I'll check it out - I'm interested in the smaller one so it will be nice to see walkthru!
I hope you try horseback riding trails one day if you have not already.
(I used to take out mad trail rides back in the day!)
Haven’t ridden a horse since I was a teenager. Which how my back is nowadays I don’t think I’d risk it to be honest
It was a just an outdoors-y suggestion. That is what I love to do outdoors.
Would be a cool idea nonetheless!
👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
That was a fun trip Jorge!
Did you use a drone to film the above shots ? Great view :)
Yep, last year or so I picked up a DJI Mavic Mini little bitty drone. It only shoots 2.4k but I think it fits nicely with the other footage! Thanks John I appreciate that!
@@dustyroaddestinations it does
Thanks so much! Im hoping to venture out this weekend and explore some more!
Cool....how do you get those arial shots?
Thanks! I’m using the DJI Mavic Mini which I think is the cheapest DJI drone you can get.
@@dustyroaddestinations oh wow my sons would love that!
I just checked they are under $400 now - check out think link amzn.to/2Ro1EQC
Well that's on Amazon - at BHPhoto they are still just under $500...
@@dustyroaddestinations thanks⛰🐻!
Duane looks lovely! Wanna swap? I'll be tour guide/ host if you ever want to do that in NS🇨🇦😊 (I am starting over as I lost a new 32° triple slide fifth wheel that my Narc ex claimed in the Divorce) Better a tent & happy than a Hotel on wheels & miserable😊💯
That would be great! I would love to venture up there. I know what you’re mean I lost a 29’ travel trailer myself. Honestly I’m enjoying this truck camping thing more anyways!
Jova Scotia is so beautiful! We were lucky to get there once and would love to go back one day
What is the history of the area you are in?
Not entirely sure Roy. I do know it’s along the PCT and Kennedy Meadows is one of the first stops along the trail. They go through it in the movie Wild. The water wasn’t a creek it’s the Kern River.
@@dustyroaddestinations Ty I will look it up. It looks alot like Jewel lake BC Canada , near Greenwood. Old gold mine area.
That sounds pretty cool Roy! I'm really looking forward to exploring that area more. Well and other areas as well!
Please tell me you have a personal locator beacon!!!
I do! I have a ZOLEO iridium satellite device that allows me to send sms/text only messages, gps location, and in a pinch SOS button that goes to search and rescue.
@@dustyroaddestinations
I watch Missing 411 and he preaches the need for them.
I am happy to see you living and doing what you love and you just being happy. ❤️
Yeah I was a bit nervous at first especially as age is creeping (more like running) up on me! I was torn between the Garmin inReach but ultimately went with the Zoleo because of the cost and features of the service. I have to have a device to send messages with Zoleo but I have unlimited texting on my plan so I can keep in touch easily with people through it and it still has the "check-in" and SOS features. The Garmin devices allow you to send messages directly from the device which is a plus but but I'm not really doing the backpacking thing and I typically have a couple of iPhone type devices with me. What is Missing 411? Is that the youtube movie things?
Just watched one of the documentaries. It’s a pretty interesting show.

Ive been a fan of his for a long time. His CZcams channel is fantastic. If you spend a lot of time hunting/camping it’s a good thing to be aware of his tips.
While his content can be scary, I think it’s best to be as aware of what you don’t know as it is what you do.
