From where I'm from, the switch request is done with 2 buttons the driver has. It can be requested at any distance. Each switch has 2 frequencies (left and right) and there's a marker on the ground to automatically set the frequency in the cab. Usually the setter is after the previous intersection. There aren't many tram intersections so this works well.
An interesting operation, thank you for shooting it!
Thank you for your support and interest!
BISOUS BONJOUR DE LA FRANCE BIENVENUE JADORE CONTINUER MERCI
Thank you for the video. Quite interesting, indeed. You do not immediately report the malfunction ? Because at the junction, other trams are coming from the right and I worry about possible accidents...
I reported it immediately afterwards but didn't include it in the video. Due to the fact that this intersection/tunnel is secured through a signalling system (indeed to avoid accidents), we can only pass if our signal is white. This was the case here after resetting the switch, which means that any trams coming from the right will see a red light until I pass.
@@Trammeneer Thank you for these additional comments !

Were there passengers on board?
I think he was on his way to turn in at the car barn and the switch didn’t automatically detect his presence. I know if you go left at the switch there’s a car depot about 2 km later.
@@starrwulfezichtenburg and meppelwerf are definitely more than 2KM away and they are called depots
Is this normally automatic?
The tram normally communicates with the switch via a loop on the ground. Based on the line number we have entered in our onboard computer, the switch will be positioned in the correct direction for that line. Sometimes, the request is not correctly received and the switch does not change position. In that case, we have to manually switch it to the correct position.
@@Trammeneerthanks for your reply:)
