I think a more accurate test of this theory would be to put weights inside of a car and take them out 100lbs at a time. Aerodynamics of the car change completely every time you remove and exterior panel. I enjoy the test and the concept however. At least someone took the time to do it in any manner to show the legitimacy of losing weight as an alternative to gaining power. So thank you for making it, would love to see it again with a more accurate presentation if you guys get the time.
That is the smart way to do it, but this is the funnier way
This was first thing on my mind but still good shit :D
This would certainly be the smarter approach, but for what it's worth the effects of aerodynamics increase exponentially with speed; so it's nothing insane with an 1/8th mile.
at first i was like 10 sec ?!?!?!?!? but then i realized it wasn’t even 1/4 mile
Ethan Vang dude I said the same fucking thing, I thought that thing had 800hp

Aerodynamics:Am i joke to you?
Below a 100 mph yes yes you are
The removed components had to be replaced with foil. To retain some of the aerodynamics.
In the 1/8 at their speed, it's very minor. They should have removed the hood last tho.
Very Nice, the car looks familiar. LOL

@@KS9O greatest idea ever
7 tenths isn't bad considering it would have been slowed down by the terrible aerodynamics of no doors, no bumper, no hood lol
This is not an accurate test with removing the doors hood Etc you're affecting the wind resistance causing more drag
phat cat mouse killer it’s 1/8th of a mile, the added benefit of acceleration is higher than the drag at those speeds. Sure a mile or 1/2 mile the drag would be worse.
Barely. Maybe not at all. Any change in times could be the result of the driver not being a robot and have nothing to do with the weight reduction at all. It's entirely possible the entire thing cancelled itself out entirely.
Wind resistance is almost negligible at speeds under 80-100 mph
They also pulled the air filter. That'd add a hp or 2.
Thezuule exactly, they should have run multiple times and averaged. They also didn’t really account for wheel spin at all. Should have got better tires to help rule that out
I feel like Brad has seen the back of a cop car a few times
He's neither confirming or denying that statement.
Seeing as how he drives the t bucket, I doubt he minds the cramped space very much
It's every citizens duty to see the back of a squad car, otherwise your not living life to the fullest.
Over 40mph the drag is so "heavy" on the a car without the Doors/hood/trunk that this teory wouldnt ever be confirmed
@@TheHoonigans that means yes
If only the strip would let you guys run it with only the frame
More time, harnesses and a rollbar - and it's on.
@@TheHoonigans it would be like Leroy with less bald eagles.
Scumbag labs cop car vs cleetus' vic who will win who knows we'll have to wait and see what they do with the cop car
Just slap together rail car
Neighbor has a vmp supercharger hugging a gt500 motor...sadly the scumbag patrol car will lose that race every time. Now if they wanted to beef the old girl up...
Still kinda proves a point here, but just for the sake of argument:
1) Since the car is already in motion and at speed by the end of the 1/8th, you can't just simply double the times or expectations to carry out to the 1/4. It would translate a bit differently
2) Some of the components they remove are affecting aerodynamics, which will affect the amount of wind resistance the car has to overcome especially on the top end.
newpa1n hence 1.6 instead of 2
“Idk if running without oil is really that good of an idea..” “yah but it’s the last run”
Brad taking the air filter all together old school habits im assuming it's his equivalent of flipping the pie pan on the carb 😂
Intake tube is right behind the drivers side headlight so that should have been taken off first 😂
I wanna beer with Brad!
60% of the time it works all the time 😏
They should have turned the upper air box up to grab air
It messes with the MAF signal and can hurt performance
Online calculator shows a .8 second decrease over the 1/4 mile based on your 1/8 ETs. Pretty close match to the theory considering the theory generally refers to full drag setups instead of your average beater.
Interesting experiment. Liked it. Keep it up
I think the change in aerodynamics when they take the door off comes into play towards the second half of the strip. It would slow them down a bit. but they could put saran wrap over the door openings!!thats would be dope to see another timing with that
I forsee a Crown Vic Kart coming soon. Its the natural progression of things, ya know?
This thing is too fun as is though with the doors still on it. Perfect daily. Convince us otherwise.
Okay, another idea. Keep the doors and body, do a Trophy P-71. At least, scaled down to scumbag level. Either way, nothing but win
@@TheHoonigans I mean you guys do need to make something to rival cleetus's Crown Vic 500
Put a mustang engine on it! That would be great!
Ha! Fine keep the doors, but I want to finally know if the claim if you cut the roof off if it would fail without support. Many say it'll pinch the doors into the body and bend like a taco. Scumbagery this?
Cut the exhaust off you will not only loose 150lbs you will probably gain 20hp
On one of those old boat anchors, definitely, lol. Freaking mufflers probably weigh near 50lbs by themselves.
You should test weight reduction without f'in-up the aero, but maximize weight reduction by shaving hood, or replacing by fiberglass, shaving door, exhaust delete/headers-only is also weight saving. You also did not removed front dash, ac, carpets
That was a blast... thanks
Should have put some street slicks on it for a bonus run
Cop tires, cop shocks, cop motor, cop bumper delete. Cop... wait wtf where are the damn doors!!!
Aero was the limiting factor i think... the back window would create drag if the doors are removed or am i wrong?
Zenex Hydra they also forgot the partition
Nah. It was the burnout. Makes street tires slippery.
Yes you are correct that windshield acts like a parachute
Yes, i was also thinking about the areodynamic factor that they were completely ignoring
No, he is not correct. I hate when people agree with something that is wrong and start a whole thing of "well more people agree so it must be right." Per pound, they gained about the same amount of time throughout the runs. All but on run number 3 which they did a burnout for with street tires which is a no-no. Why do you think you typically see veteran racers (with street tires) drive around the burnout box? If the back glass acted like that much of a parachute it would affect all of the runs after the doors are removed and not just the one with a burnout.
Love the Vic! I've owned my 05 for months and it's a great car!
4:04 Little did Brad know he was dancing almost perfectly in time with the music added in post 😭🤣
Hoonigan Daily posting is a dream come true
like if you agree
these are my new favorite,
lets see a top speed test like this!
There's a lot of X factors at play, though, that keeps this from being 100% accurate.
1) taking off the bodywork, especially the doors, really hurts the aerodynamics and can hurt the time by 1-2 tenths on its own even in a 1/8 mile.
2) even with an automatic and the same driver, no drag runs are perfectly consistent and about .15 seconds is literally an eyeblink, so expecting perfectly consistent results is unreasonable.
3) the base weight of the car is a big factor in determining how much 100 lbs will affect it. 100 lbs. on a 4000+ lb car matters less than it would in a 2000 lb Lotus Elise as the percent of total weight removed is less. It's possible that in an open wheel car that weighs around 1000 lbs it would make *more* than .1 second difference for each 100 lbs.
Bottom line: the 100 lbs=.1 seconds is just a rough rule of thumb, not a universal constant for the reasons stated above.
DerekSiems thanks for being right finally someone to have it right
Not to mention their math is off
And they possibly affected the tunning by removing the airfilter, wich can make the car faster or even slower
Your expecting ANYTHING from scumbag labs to be "accurate"? lol
you think these guys are worried about consistency and accuracy lol
This car became an aerodynamic nightmare real quick.
but at least it went 0-100 real quick

What if you cover the doors and the rest with ducktape to make it more aerodynamic?
Doesn't count in the 1/8, in the 1/4 that counts for sure.
Andrea why would it not matter in the 1/8? If it matters in the 1/4 it will matter in the 1/8th
@@adamfreiburger7839 I didn't watched the whole video, yeah it matters a lot 😂😂
honestly... the car won't be fast enough in the 1/8th mile for strong aero - effects.
as long as you do not drive with a bookshelf, you don't loose time.
I’m pretty sure it’d have better aero if they removed some of the 9 gopros they had on it and put them on the inside.

Moment you took the air filter out this test became invalid
If you think taking a generic paper air filter out of a slow car like that will make it any faster, you're wrong my friend
@@TimothyFHW He is not. It's simple: There is less resistance of air getting to the engine.
The difference is small and it would be stupid to remove the air filter in a generic car. However, in these tiny time differences, the air filter surely had its effect.
@@Hoch134 taking out the air filter is probably equivalent to taking the plastic dash out of a car. In that small amount of time it won't do anything. Now if you had the same cars going a longer distance, say 10 miles, one with an air filter, one without, it would be a slight difference, but in a quarter mile, it'll be such a small difference it wouldn't be calculated
air filter weighs a lot !
Great video👍. You should also take out the heater core, resonators and cats. That's around another 200+ pounds lol

As soon as I heard it I went right to the comments to see if I was the only one 😂
Removing door's created more air drag on car. In the starting the car accelerated faster due to low air drag but air drag increased as the car speed up.
They did a burnout with street tires
Drag is negligible at low speeds. Also....removing the doors does NOT increase the drag, really. There is no airflow through the car unless you remove the rear and/or front windows. Taking off the doors can even REDUCE drag, since the friction is now only air over air., Though, the center pillar causes turbulence which complicates this somewhat
@@ashscott6068 dude what, have you ever tried driving with an open window? Let alone with no door? There will be wind turbulence and drag
+Ash Scott
That's blatantly incorrect. Do you really think air doesn't flow around the car, and only over / under?
It will absolutely increase the drag.
@oh yeehaw yeehaw That has nothing to do with what I mentioned. I don't care how fast you're going, air flows around the car as well, and removing the doors *will* increase the drag.
yoo some good shots. like 4:39. good production!

R.I.P John Dunsworth
I guess you've also got to consider aerodynamics when removing the hood and what not but it is really cool to watch the time drop
the problem is the aerodynamic the air will hit the inside of the car and its gonna slow it down
its ighter but its gonna be like an air brake

*WEIGHT REDUCTION BRO*
Josh Bacon perp kart ?
might as well take off the wheels and save another 200lbs lmao
Should have remove all your clothes for weight reduction!
Hot Rod magazine did the same thing 30 years ago with a 400+cube Caddy...by the end of the experiment they had stripped the car down to the bare essentials...frame, floorboard, drivetrain, dash, steering wheel seat, and driver. Made a giant go-cart that ran the 11s, just by stripping off weight.
Brad droppin moves and doing the scumbag Intake by removing the filter was fantastic.
It’ll work...but only if Bradology alows
I'd have compared 60'-660' on all runs just to remove as much of the wheelspin variable as possible.

I like that Brad gets to mess around with you guys on this show. I think you guys should junkyard turbo the vic
So many people commenting on the extra drag from the lack of body parts- or doesn't make any difference in an 1/8 mile time with a car this slow. They might be hitting 60 ish at the 1/8th... and that's when the drag penalty STARTS. Might be worth .01 to .03 secs... not the .1's they're testing... ;)
Eric K i bet it effects it more than you'd imagine.. Seeing how i slow down on the freeway from like 80 mph to 50 mph just by rolling dowm all 4 windows lol only takes a few seconds to do so also.
@@ashleycharnley4154 - don't get me wrong, I do acknowledge that aerodynamic drag is a thing. But in the context of an 1/8 mile drag race, the difference in time will be insignificant. Think of how little time during that 10 secs the car is going over even 40 mph... the time difference due to drag is just not a big deal in the 1/8. In a full quarter mile it's a different story, but speeds are just too low in this case...
Drag is going to be very minimal, yeah. My vic with the same rear end locked hits 60 right at 8 seconds. So they may be hitting 70ish in the eighth. They’re probably incurring more penalty from the crappy tires.
