Again. Teddy's father delivered my two boys back in 1958 & 59. In the early sixties he came to the Berry housing project to treat one of my sons. Gave him a shot and charged me $8.00. The best is because of how he treated individuals with little or no means he never cashed the check. He will always be my hero. John Dalessio, Jr.

A guy broke into my house. Big black guy. I was so scared. I had a wife and two daughters. I fought that guy. I got 6 broken ribs, and 24 stitches on the top of my head. I saved my family though. I may have ended up in the hospital, but I got a lot of respect for that…

I've been in a few scary situations in my life. The scariest is when I almost drowned swimming off the coast of Ibiza. For a few seconds when it felt hopeless and I felt like giving up a really weird sense of calm washed over me. Out of nowhere the image of an old family picture of my dad holding me as a baby came into my mind. The thought of my parents at my funeral. And that was it. I gave every bit of effort I had left and managed to swim about half a mile back to the beach. Without that image popping into my brain I would have just let go. I've kept that picture in my wallet every day in the 30 years since. I hope I never need it again but just having it means I know I won't give up if another scary life-or-death situation ever occurs again.

    • @LH74
      @LH74 Před 6 měsíci +3

I had a similar thing happened. I was swimming with my step son and suddenly the water went from 5 feet to like 20 feet and before we realized what was happening, we started getting tired and felt a sense of losing control. I cried out for help and people saw me but they just stared like zombies, nobody was trying to even help us. Then before I lost my mind, I had a moment of clarity, and I started controlling my breathing and focusing on the shore, and I slowly dog paddled back to the sand. I held my step son's hand and told him to keep kicking and paddling with his other arm, and together we made it back. I was embarrassed that as an adult, I almost lost control of the situation. But GOD was with us, I know that clarity couldn't come from me. It came from GOD. I give thanks to no one but GOD. I also credit my step son for keeping his cool and staying focused. He really is a special person.

A lot of people criticizing Teddy for being so longwinded don't seem to understand the point of podcasts. It's not a court case where you just grill the guest on the facts, the who/what/when/where/why. They're having a conversation, so he's going into detail. Sure he could just say, "I got in a fight and got slashed by a knife" but if that's all the info you were looking for, don't bother with the podcast and just google how he got the scar.

He’s part Mick from Rocky, part Father Barry in On the Waterfront. I was 19 and driving slowly one night, guy cuts me off. I pull up to him at the next light and HES furious, like IM the problem. The windows go down, he’s screaming at me and I say nothing, but I do put my finger up to tell him to be quiet, then I point at my crotch. He looks like he’s going to kill me, and at that moment my eyes roll back into my head like a great white shark about to bite a seal in half and I empty my soul into the woman’s mouth who is giving me the most beautiful “gift” a woman can give. The guy is now out of his car, and he runs up to my window, mouth wide open, screaming like a lunatic, and that’s when he sees the woman head. She lifts her head up real fast, and just like that she spits the kids I’ll never have into this guys mouth. His eyes go from angry to horrified as he IMMEDIATELY falls to his knees and begins throwing up all over the side of the car and the street. He stumbles to his feet now crying and hysterical and screams one word in horror and disbelief..
    GRANDMA??
The old woman puts her teeth back in and says to her devastated and trembling 40 year old grandson who is now stunned into silence.
“ Not tonight Pooky. Tonight I’m his EVERYTHING.”
I drive away slowly, still having said nothing. But a huge smile crosses my face as I look in the rear view mirror to see the man fall to his knees once more, sobbing and puking.
I take her back to the nursing home because it’s almost 10pm and she likes the late shows. As usual there’s no kiss goodbye because this is not love. As I pull away from the front door I see another man in his 50’s looking at my personalized plate. I recognize the confused look on his face as he reads it. Just like the face of the much older woman at the DMV that sold me the plate, who wasn’t the first and wouldn’t be the last. I smile thinking his grandma might be next as I see him mouth the single word on the plate.. and the shock as his eyes widen when he realizes what it means..
    GUMMER.

Teddy instilled these things training with him. He had he foundation skills from Teddy.. The things he says is off the top of his tongue.. it’s not rehearsed as a matter if you watch him so many years has passed every time he’s a question he reacts to it with a fresh emotion that he’s literally feeling that day and how he is feeling at the moment.. That is the real truth of the human condition.. You should hear the sincerity in his voice I know the person he is speaking to can feel it. “ a real living legend “

Boxing is a fun sport, but the training is intense, especially for women. My father used to practice Thai boxing when he was young back in our country before 1975. He was bullied by other kids because he wore glasses, and they called him "four eyes" in Vietnamese. He did all of his Thai boxing practice in the attic, all by himself, before he joined the South Vietnamese Navy. Thank you so much for having Mr. Atlas on your podcast. I totally understand his perspectives and respect him as a trainer, mentor, and an emotional man. In my opinion, I believe that whenever you start from nothing to achieve something, you inevitably lose some part of yourself to the devil. For example, money: when people don't have money, they work hard to acquire it and become wealthy. When they are wealthy, they gain fame and power, which can turn them into egotistic and narcissistic individuals. However, they still find themselves unhappy with what they have. Ultimately, they suffer their own pain. Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.
Thanks again! It would be nice to have Mr. Tyson on your podcast to share his side of the story as well. I believe that Mike & Teddy are better people today than they were back in the day. As the seasons change so do people! 😊

The face can take some damage as long as your neck veins don't get cut. My mum smashed a huge vodka bottle and stuck it in my dad's face. Both his cheeks fell down and his neck had a huge gash on it. It looked like Freddie Gruger hit him. Luckily he was ok after 70 staples to put him back together. He had to grow a beard after that to hide the scars .🙏

Intellectual people actually get bored with information-less ramblings. Perhaps your inefficiently running brain couldn't keep up and you need the slow rollout of information to be able to process it. Probably showing your age as well. Better get back to the porch and chair to yell at the damn kids to keep off your lawn.

You’d be surprised what a young one is willing to do to find love and acceptance, that they didn’t get from Dad and/or Mom. You can come from the best neighborhood money can buy, and still take to a life in the streets because you found a group of people that you think will provide that love and acceptance.

fan of both of these humans and the world would be a better place with more like them. that being said, I didn't so much like Teddy saying/implying that when you're one person fighting 5 or 6, of which at least one has a weapon, that running away is a decision of cowards. Teddy is lucky they decided to allow him to keep his life. (It is understood that he is describing his personal mindset.)

    • @pmin5554

He didn’t say it would be cowardly. He said you’d have to live with what you decide to do. I would have looked back thinking it was sensible, and be very happy with my choice to run away from a knife and too many opponents!
