Kids growing with the Grandpa Mike don’t understand what a menace young Mike was.
Convicted R*pist
Body of a heavyweight champ and mind of a 15 year old are a dangerous combo
Crushed a lot of cans, fell short vs great fighters (hollfield, Lewis), and apparently peaked at 20 🤔. Bully and a bum 👎
@@jimmicrackhead12said the crack head
Menace as in repeated sex offeneder over decades? Yeah clearly they don't care
Teddy has a poetic way of explaining things. What a legend.
@user-yn7rv4zs2l To you it is, because you have no sense of poetry. Just a meathead.
He does. He decorates and imbues his words and life with more meaning than it maybe deserves sometimes. And to a lot of people like the guy above me it sounds annoying, meandering or pretentious, but to other people like myself it really speaks to something deep within them. Like somebody finally communicating on your wavelength. Creating and crafting his own complex narratives and meaning in life instead of simply following some cold script and going through the motions. He's a storyteller at heart, and regardless if I always agree with him or not, as somebody who shares his passion for both stories and fighting, I have to appreciate his unique gift.
I always thought Mike got this way of speaking from Cus. I'm surprised to see it's actually from Teddy
@@victorcampeanu It's not from Teddy, actually both of them got it from Cus!
Teddy is a clout chaser
A masterful interview Lex! There is someone that has become self aware and wise. What a great insight Teddy has gained on life's purpose and seeking to have meaning in it. Thanks Teddy!
Teddy's story about his dad was tough. "Don't give up on life." Whoa, that's a tough lesson. Particularly, to give that kind of a lesson to a 9 yr old. Cus saw that Tyson was his last chance to achieve a measure of immortality. It doesn't excuse screwing over those who love you, but legit champions don't grow on trees.
I still do not understand how Tedd think Cus betrayed him.
@ShadowVille2770 he told him to leave the gym not Mike it's pretty clear😂😂
Teddy is a punk....mike was NEVER PROVEN to have done this...which makes aex a no honor punk ass as well...
cause after pulling a gun on mike he got kicked out@@ShadowVille2770
@@ShadowVille2770maybe you should listen again
Teddy is nothing short of a living legend. I met him at a boxing event in NY and he was double fisting hotdogs
«You learn to forgive weakness when you realise how easy it is to be weak.»
I've heard Teddy Atlas talk about this on another occasion & let me say this: He's more calculated, insightful and less emotional & venomous as It was initially stated.
I don't condemn a man for defending the safety, well-being & honor of his daughter. Fathers are INVALUABLE.
TEDDY'S NIECE!!!
More information and fill out what your saying actually happened with reference to pulling the gun and what exactly was the betrayal. Cus was the trainer owner of Tyson’s career and Teddy was just his associate???
@@cccco9095Like you want the full story? Teddy was Tyson’s trainer day to day, Cus was old so he couldn’t be around much, Teddy had to take him to the Olympics amateur events etc. So one day Tyson grabbed Teddys young niece (I believe she was about 9-12) ass and said he was gonna basically rape her, so Teddy heard about this and pulled a gun on Mike, then Teddy wanted Mike out the gym but Cus kicked Teddy out the gym.
Merry Christmas! Thank you for all the outstanding interviews, Lex!
Mike Tyson gave us so many special memories. Thank you Teddy & Cus for saving his life.
Yes...tyson gave great memories to the victims who he robbed beating up old ladies raping women
I clicked on this video because of the title... (which most of us have heard about several times). Instead I learned a valuable lesson about forgiveness... and so much more. Thanks Lex... and thank you Teddy for sharing your story.
Same here clicked on to see the same trainer and coach who helped build the baddest man on the planet. Instead I get a huge life lesson to help with something I've struggled with my whole life. Thanks teddy
That was a heck of a story from Teddy Atlas. I actually learned a lot from this story! It made me even cry a lil bit.
Teddys words are so meaningful…. When you realize how fragile human strength truly is. Weaknesses, betrayal of the ones we might love. To truly forgive and to understand in some sense…. Teddy has found true strength
This was bloody hell briliant. Riveting. God bless you Teddy Atlas (and well done Lex, for leting him 'go', without interjecting, interrupting. you were excellent here).
This is a deeply layered lifetime of introspective emotional learning
This clip has so much wisdom and knowledge, it’s incredible. Look beyond the clickbait headline and realize just how much mental wealth is brought here by Teddy.
The more I learn about Cus, the more sense it makes hearing Tyson talk about him with not only reverance but legitimate fear...
This is one of my favorite conversation you've given us Lex. Thank you.
Lex asks the best questions
Lex is the best interviewer out there today. Because he shuts up and lets the guests talk
lol yea right
so much wisdom spoken by teddy here. thank u for putting this out there to te world
Thank you lex and Teddy this will bring peace to so many people that didn't understand the price sacrifice of a parent or grandparent... it's like therapy.
Being betrayed especially by someone u look atnas a brother or father figure. It's the best learning experience. I know what he is saying. Mentally it makes u stronger for the life ahead
Atlas's boxing instructionals are great. I recommend checking them out. He's such a character, too. Similes all day! :D
Cus Dmato would watch fights with Tyson and that is on way he learnt a lot . Cus taught him that way …. Teddy had a lot to do with Tyson learning but he was not the only one …
Growing up listening to teddy atlas just talk has always made me grow mentally as a person and man, he had a mind just as great as Cus
thank you for the interview
I may not always understand what point Teddy is trying to make, but I'll always respect him and his opinion.
This is great, Teddy Atlas is a legend. There aren't too many interviews with Teddy out there and there it was nice to hear his side of the story. Good job Lex Clips! Thanks Teddy Atlas!
This is a lot better than Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk.
What a Christmas gift from lex with one of the best
Heared this story 100times now . . Teddy can´t get a different narrative of himself than associating him with that incident GANGSTA tuff guy
Yeah I’m sick of this dude
I think mike did what he did intentionally, he wanted to get rid of Teddy because at that time he was envy
@@urbancamp5595dam you either don't have daughters or even sisters tuff guy Mike lucky he didn't get smoked.
@@riplipii GO Down for my family bro, Atlas is just a Freak
People ask him about the story…
'And betrayals of people, in different ways... That we forget because it's handy' Guy's so honest with himself it makes me feel guilty
Pulling a gun on a 16 year old is why he was going to jail. They cut ties with him cause he was a loose canon, and tyson was going up without him.
U know why he pulled the gun right? Tyson supposively r...d the chick... & were not talking about a reg 16 year old lol just saying
“It becomes easier to forgive somebody when your trying to forgive yourself.” Wow. Best _explanation_ of what *forgiveness* is.
We still telling this story when he was 14
Here's a man making massive hay stacks with few tools at his disposal. Admirable!
Great perspective...nice to see that he's healing...I needed to hear/watch this 🙏🏼♥️
With no judgement there is also the retrospective shine of being the trainer that brought Mike Tyson to prominence. Decades after the betrayal, that has bern a benefit to Teddys career
Although its obviously impossible, God I sure would love to get Cus' side of the story.
He didnt really answer the question. He overreacted and pulled a gun and fired on a 14yr old kid who inappropriately touched a girls ass. Could have behaved like a responsible adult and spoken to Cus and handled it as a team. Instead he got booted from the team and its obvious hes still bitter at Mike for ruining his realationship with Cus. Also he never mentions the trainer that took over from him Kevin Rooney ever. Teddy talks about forgiveness but its evident hes still holding bitterness.
Cus wouldn’t have done anything, Mike was his golden boy. His last chance at training another champion, the only thing that was keep Cus alive.
Man let that shit go bruh!
It’s intangible, but you can tell Teddy is a pillar of wisdom
Atlas’s opinion of Mike’s ability is clearly biased due to mikes alleged actions
Ask Atlas about Tysons character not boxing ability
Curious to know what mike thinks about this 😅
While some may argue that Mike Tyson wasn't the greatest fighter or puncher in history, it's important to consider the era in which he competed. Tyson faced formidable opponents like Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis, who would have likely dominated fighters from earlier decades. Only iconic figures like Muhammed Ali or George Foreman in their primes could rival him. Tyson's impressive victories against top-level opponents warrant his high ranking.
Moreover, Mike Tyson's ability to overcome personal challenges and continue his fighting career demonstrates resilience and determination. He transformed his life into a remarkable success story, showing that even in the face of adversity, one can rebuild and achieve greatness.
However, there are individuals like Teddy Atlas who harbor bitterness towards Tyson, displaying a clear bias and jealousy. Atlas tends to ramble and offer unsubstantiated criticisms, often making inaccurate boxing predictions. His unsuccessful coaching career may contribute to this resentment, especially when compared to Tyson's financial success.
It's worth noting that Tyson's legal troubles and conviction had their own complexities, and some argue he faced unfortunate circumstances. With better legal representation, his outcome might have been different. In Tyson's life, he has experienced more adversity than he has inflicted upon others.
Having strong personal feelings towards a person who influenced your life to that degree is more than expected, it shows humanity and self awareness. Moreover it doesn't matter if Tyson experienced lots of adversity, that shit still happened and no one has the right to tell anyone about how they should feel but those involved in that.
Tyson is a complex beast but in many aspects also straightforwardly simple, it's just that his new persona is by definition opposed to his old one and people tend to view favorably those affected by the adversities Tyson experienced
Teddy tries to sound like a helpless victim when Cus cut him off. But he doesn’t have the strength to hold himself accountable for pulling a gun on a kid when he was a 25 yr old grown man.
Now I get why my dad “betrayed” me for a new family. Tough lesson but thanks for sharing
Thanks Lex. Merry Christmas!!!
"The only thing you take with you is what you left behind."
This story has been told so many times. Teddy atlas has some good stories
Philosophically Outstanding!!! Good on ya!!!
As a boxing fan, this is really, really old news lol.
So no one should speak about the past just cos some people know the story already 🙄 ?
Cus loyalty was to the all mighty dollar not his partner, If he backed his partner, Mike would never lost to Holyfield and Lewis. FACTS
This video had very little to do with Teddy pulling a gun on Mike Tyson. It should have been titled, "How Teddy Atlas Learned to Forgive the Betrayal of Cus D'Amato" or something along those lines. You merely chose the most attention-grabbing subject from the clip and made that into the title. Even though it didn't explain the true overall subject of the video.
bloody hell, this man is articulate
Why are we still beating a dead horse?
For months now Teddy has been displaying a considerably obvious lack of breath at times, very prominent on a pod cast about 6 months ago, I still hear it here but much less, hope he is o.k the man is a legend. Af his nut but a legend.
Nobody tells stories like Teddy Atlas
I can't believe how much I learnt and connected my own dots through listening to this clip of lex and Ted. Wow
The benefit of betrayal I've experienced . Just never had the wisdom to put it into words.
Teddy still telling that story, but why? Let it go.
Righteous Teddy
Teddy is reflecting and he seems hurt.
More Teddy! More Teddy!
After all these years people still believe teddy's lies
Needed this thank you
Best interview I ewer heard ,, I didn't know that about Teddy
Even as an adult, with a gun, I’d still be fearful of a young Mike. Mike may have not liked Teddy for his actions but fuck that noise, Mike is scary af and you gotta learn them somehow
lol pulling a gun on a 14yr old? could have spoken to Cus about it and handled the situation like an adult. Instead he did what he did and Cus booted him.
He tried to mess with a 11 year old girl…. If you guys recall Mike Tyson was in jail before Cus got him… Mike Tyson was from a deadly school growing up, Brownsville section of New York, total wasteland back in the day.
Deep Thinker... one of the reasons he can "pull" a fighter out of a slump
I really want to understand what he’s talking about, but I just feel like Mike Tyson punched me in the head.
Teddy is funny. Kevin Rooney was responsible for Mike's training and success. Teddy wasn't as important as he makes himself out to be. Glorified janitor back then
teddy is full of shit
More information and fill out what your saying actually happened with reference to pulling the gun and what exactly was the betrayal. Cus was the trainer owner of Tyson’s career and Teddy was just his associate???
Teddy atlas was the scummy no mark you avoided as a teenager...he doesn't even look like a tough guy... hence the Mars bar on his chevy chase...
Damn.. I didn’t know this. Well merry Christmas
so much respect
Blame, accountability and forgiveness. Wow😮
Ppl seem to forget what this guys done ….. lol hilarious
Wow… lot of growth
Who knows what really happened! This his his side only
smart move. he knows tyson would have whipped his ass without the gun.
Why did he step on him at the end...i wanted to hear it from the guest! Smdh!
You pulled a gun on a kid, Cus was right to separate ways with you. How do you shove a gun in a kids face, crazy and then expect all to be cool.
Don't we try kids as adults sometimes
As a kid, Mike was OUT OF CONTROL and was inappropriate WITH TEDDY'S NIECE, who was about 12 years old at the time!!!

Touched her butt
Cus and Mike were the prime Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson was a legend. But…
I don’t know about the other stuff. I’m talking about in the ring. Nothing else. Evidently he’s done some bad things, I think he was a bad person back then.
Last time I was this early ....
Mike Tyson was already the GOAT !
Better than Evander, who beat him twice?

Besides Tyson. Teddy is another old man coffee that can throw some hands . Just seeing him shadow box on tv 😯.

His dad sounds like mine
Teddy needs some neck work.
Not one comment about tyson and the underage girl girl. Cus condoned that activity him and Tyson should've been locked up.
Tyson got to much freaking passes
What underage girl? You talking about what he allegedly did with teddys daughter? Yea you do realise Tyson was a 13 year old kid when those accusations came out and he was already locked up 38 times by that age anyways. Tyson himself said its not true at all and its because cus cut ties with teddy and Tyson and Teddy had the audacity to put a loaded gun in the back of a 13 year old Mike Tysons head. Maybe he should of being locked up too. Over the years we've seen the change of Tyson, he can be painfully honest, watch all the interviews he does, everything he says is honesty and wisdom, one thing he hasn't changed is his story going to prison and what happened with him and Teddy.
While th talk was theraupuetic 4 Ted and all u other commenters I found out little 2 nothing about th gun play(which is why I watched 2 th halfway mark!)
This guy like to talk softly and slowly as if he is so introspective
I tend to lean on bitter narcissistic man left out of the road to the heavy weight championship!
Teddy is not some Saint or angel. Needs to stop telling this old story. Sour milk.
