    All of the three are great all round midfielders. I always say that Scholes is an orchestrator with an out of this world technical ability. Lampard had an exceptional eye for goal and was a machine. Gerrard was prob the most versatile player I've ever seen, the X-Factor thing with Gerrard.. and Rio touched on this, its his ability to do the Spectacular and the Fantastic. All 3 outstanding midfielders. For me of course i would say Scholes. One thing that should be noted, Chelsea and Liverpool managed to do well once Gerrard and Lampard left respectively. Since scholes absense, there’s not been any player that come and gone in our club that has filled that void. That should tell you he was a different player. We’ve found it really hard to replace him.
    1. Scholes
    2. Gerrard - just because he’s more of a complete midfielder imo. He helps attack gets a few goals and assists whilst helping with the defense, plus he’s a leader and more versatile than the two. He’ll leave everything on the line in a game. Tbf if people said Gerrard is better out of the 3, i wouldn’t necessarily complain and would understand.
    3. Lampard - i love lamps, the midfielder that possessed the more attacking nature out of the 3. He’d get 20+ goals and 10+ assists. Icl i would love him on my team cuz when the strikers are down, he’d be that extra push to step up and you need that.

    Paul Scholes is my all time favorite footballer. The guy controls the tempo of a game, slows it down, quicken it up, dummy, long pass, short pass, shot... goal. As great as that United team was, everything went through Scholes; that should tell u how good he was!

      Everything didn't go through Scholes though, that's an over exaggeration.
      We used to score plenty goals via Neville-Beckham-Striker, or Giggs to striker, sometimes even Roy Keane surging forward.
      Scholes was immense, but let's not get carried away.
      Plus I know he was nicknamed sat nav, but for me Rooney had the real sat nav. Made my jaw drop multiple times and I used to play midfield, I was never the biggest fan of strikers. I think Scholes was probably an understated genius. You might not notice it. If I'm honest I always noticed Steven Gerrard.

Scholes was completely controlling the games tempo, he had the brain of a machine and knew exactly where everyone was at any moment.

Gerrard played 46, 375, that's more than 10000 minutes over Scholes, yet the amount of goals they scored was similar. Scholes was the more consistent scorer, the stats back it up. • @Anonymous-xr8hx
      @Anonymous-xr8hx Před 2 lety +2

      Thats a ridiculous way of looking at it for me. They've all played out their careers. You've seen everything they've done, the goals they've scored, assisted and games they've dominated. And you want to decide which was the best not by what they actually accomplished in their careers but by creating a "what if scenario" that puts one of the three at an advantage. Gerrard was the one who was able to show he could put a team on his back because he was in the weaker team where he was clearly the best player. You can't just say the others would never be able to do what he did because we didn't see them play in weaker teams, meaning they never got to showcase those attributes on a weekly basis. I could quite easily flip your argument and say could Gerrard do what the others did for Liverpool and Chelsea? No. Because he would've been surrounded by world class players and could no longer the "the man" that the team relied on. Similar to how Grealish thrived at Villa but is just another face in the crowd at City. I'm sure that wouldn't have been the case but I'm just flipping your argument to show how it makes no sense. Fair enough if you think Gerrard was the best of the three but the way you've argued it isn't right at all.

    • @AJ-nd4nk
      @AJ-nd4nk Před rokem +1

      @@Anonymous-xr8hx Your greatness is elevated when you're surrounded by greatness. Gerrard carried an average Liverpool side for 10+ years. Gerrard could've been the goat of midfielders had he gone to Real Madrid in 2009 when they wanted him badly. He refused and chose loyalty. Look what happened to Modric! Gerrard is another Totti, they don't come around often in football.

    • @Anonymous-xr8hx
      @Anonymous-xr8hx Před rokem

      @A J lol not necessarily. Some players thrive off being the man. Look at Hazard at Chelsea vs Madrid. Gerrard was an incredible player and I'm sure he would've been just as good for Madrid. But you can't just make stuff up like he would've been elevated to a new level. It never happened it's all a what if. You can only judge him by what he actually did at Liverpool and how good he was for them.

    • @AJ-nd4nk
      @AJ-nd4nk Před rokem +1

      @@Anonymous-xr8hx But that's a very one dimensional way to judge a football player. Let's say Scholes played for Liverpool and Gerrard played for United...we wouldn't even be having this conversation. Also, Gerrard had an elite level mentality, unlike Hazard who was extremely lazy. It's sad because Gerrard never reached his true full potential like Lampard and Scholes were able to and he still competed with them!

    • @Anonymous-xr8hx
      @Anonymous-xr8hx Před rokem +1

      @A J but that's bullshit. Gerrard did reach his full potential. We saw it. We saw his whole career. That's like saying Maradona didn't reach his full potential because he spent most of his career at Napoli. The player did what the player did. If their career was ruined by injuries in some way then fair enough but Gerrard played regularly football for almost 20 years. We saw his entire career and that's what we use to judge him. You can't arbitrarily pick him out and say he would've been better in X team so that elevates him whereas this other player would've been worse in another team so that brings him down a few legs. I can give you the reverse of your argument. Lampard spent his entire time at Chelsea surrounded by superstars and he stood out above them all. Claude Makelele, Michael Essien, Ballack etc. Not only did Lampard never lose his place but he was the main man despite all those other stars. People say Gerrard carried his team which makes him so good but Lampard and Scholes never got the opportunity to carry their teams. For all we know they would've done the same or better. Maybe Lampard wouldn't have slipped.
      You see how you can use hypotheticals to twist a narrative any way you want. It's best to just judge them by how good they were on the pitch. Not like I'm underrated Gerrard by doing that either. Still think he was better than Scholes and on par with Lampard.

But he came on either at half time or after and I’ve never ever seen even until this day, a player come on and change the game like that. He didn’t score or assist I don’t think, but he ran the midfield on his own. He was one touch passing around players moving into space and getting it back, being completely press resistant and then firing balls to the wing or to the strikers. He completely change the tempo of the game and the result too. He made spurs go from pressing us in our own half and constantly breaking on us, to pinning them back in their own box. Deep breath, here goes...A lot of fans on social media that love to compare the three are either too young to know what they're talking about or it's just plain simple bias, letting club allegiances colour their opinions. All of a sudden we're going to try and rewrite history as if the man that Ancelloti, Ferguson, Wenger, Mourinho and Lippi all tried to sign, some on multiple occasions, was "overrated" lol. Unlike Scholes and Lampard, Gerrard never once had the best team in the league, his club let him down. Closest he came was 08/09, but they were up against one of the greatest Untied sides we had, if not the greatest, of all time. Most of Gerrad's career Liverpool were the 3rd-7th best team (sorry Liverpool fans) and for most of that, I'd say 90% of the time, he carried donkeys. Can you imagine Scholes or Lampard ever having to play in midfield alongside the likes of Christian Poulsen, Charlie Adam, Nick Barmby, Salif Diao, Alberto Aquilani, Igor f*cking Biscan, Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Allen, Jay Spearing, Boudewijn Zenden, Joe Allen, a Jamie Redknapp towards the end of his career, Mohamed Sissoko, a 32 year old Paul Ince, Lucas Leiva, Danny Murphy, a young pre Klopp Jordan Henderson for the overwhelming majority of their career? How many of them would get into those United or Chelsea title winning/contending teams? And that's just the midfielders. All three were incredible players, but for what was asked of him, it's Gerrad who did more with less. Would have loved to have seen him playing for a few years in a world beating side, Juve, Milan, Chelsea, Madrid or even us at UTD! lol. I mean, they all at one stage or another wanted him. Loyalty got him love and adoration from his own supporters, not many medals and a lot of butt hurt football fans of rival clubs sadly.

    England could’ve played a 3-1-3-2. With either Gerrard or Scholes at that 1 spot in front of the defense but it’s not a position for a defender but a role player.

    It's actually funny how they compare the three. They're completely different players, Scholes and Lampard are worlds away with Gerrard being somewhat of a combination - not as good in any one particular area but fantastic in ever area.

    Scholes has got to be no.1. He could do everything Lampard and Gerrard could do but Gerrard and Lampard were unable to do what Scholes could do which is control a game from minute 1 to minute 90 and that’s what wins you titles CONSISTENTLY.
    The only thing these statpadders talk about is goals but like Rio said when Scholes was playing no.10 he was packing 20 a season. Also, if midfielders were judged on goals only then the likes of Zidane and Xavi will be bums so it’s Scholes hands down. Every neutral footballer has said the same thing so it’s a non debate for me.

    Rio I respect you but stevie g got 20+ goals - 2005-06 , 2007-08 and 2008/09 and all those years he played attacking midfield which shows if he played Frank Lampard role he would score more - you even said yourself the year Scholes scored 20+ was when he played no.10 to ruud in 2002/3 so I believe it depends on where they played

    This shouldn’t be a question. It shouldn’t be Gerrard, Lampard or Scholes. It’s Gerrard, Xavi or Iniesta. Gerrard is on a different level to Lampard and Scholes. Scholes could control a game and Lampard could score and assist. Gerrard could do both of them but so much more. Gerrard’s best team is worse than either of Lampard or Scholes’ worst team. Gerrard was faster, stronger, better technically, better passer, better leader, better tackler and a better big game player. He flipped games on their head and carried horrific teams for years. For me Gerrard will always be in a different league these two
